I have a BB Preamp, but was wanting a Hot Cake, which is just great. Saw your video on that, and was impressed, but realized the BB was just as great in my eyes, so I'll be sticking to it. Cheers!
I’ve used a BB plus for years. It is good... but I do have a bunch of others (OCD, Wamplers, etc). When I feel uninspired I switch up the gear. BB is always in the rotation....
Great timing of this review. I recently acquired a Caline Orange Burst, which is apparently a clone of the BB Preamp. The Orange Burst frustrates me somewhat, because the Volume knob on mine doesn't behave like a volume knob really should--it's too bassy, so below 10 o'clock it gets flat and dull sounding, and past 2 o'clock it's flubby. So I keep mine at about 1 o'clock. Otherwise, I think the Bass control is very useful, as Gabor demonstrates on the BB. You can dial it back, or add more bottom, and it still sounds pretty good either way. The Orange Burst is fairly close, though it does seem like the BB Preamp is the better of the two (no surprise there, I guess). Thanks!
The QC at Caline either isn't the best, or their components have a lot of variation. I have two Pure Skys - one I have to put gain at noon to get the same gain of the other set at 9 o'clock. My Orange Burst seems to behave properly, so your likely just came with a 'bad' volume pot.

I haven’t been here for a while but somehow your page popped up with a left field suggestion for your demo of the Dreadbox Kinematic and now I’m here enjoying something the significantly more vanilla BB. I am enjoying both of your playing. Nice work
I saw a vid a while back with a guy from xotic referring to the BB as ‘Big British’. Love my BB, does a nice thingon its own, but more importantly stacks REALLY well.
Yes. Turns out it's just a Tube Screamer. The circuit is published in the DIY pedal community, it's a direct TS copy for 98% of the circuit. Larger value gain pot, fixed TS tone control internally and then just tacked on the bass and treble controls at the end. So, 98% TS but also so much better!
Love how when Alex sets up the pedal is knobs at 12 oclock or lower. The moment Gabor gets on the controls its always "Come on turn that up" Gain, Bass and hot pick ups blasting the amp :-)
If you trace the circuit, the front and back end are identical to a Tube Screamer with added EQ control in the middle. It is definitely NOT a Blues Breaker circuit.

It is another take on the Marshall Blues Breaker pedal. I got it years ago thinking it was a JTM45 -in-a-Box ...ooops! I sold it. I since heard the original pedal and it grew on me. I have since got a JHS Morning Glory ...I hated it. BUT I found the Chicago Stompworks Blooze Maker a part for part NOS clone which I love. Best of all it was only $75.00 USD.
Like the Xotic effects pedal range. Would be interested to see how it compares to the Analogman KoT. Also wondered if you guys will be doing another podcast soon? Enjoy them & it's been a while since your last one!

Shoot out the king of tone and the bb please. I’m curious. I too am a king of tone snob. I recently bought a horse breaker and have it on my board next to the king of tone to compare the two. Very interesting indeed. Ceriatone kicks ass. Love the horse breaker.
Hey Gabor, what ceriatone amps have you played through. I am thinking of buying the son of yeti but I am curious how it takes pedals. Have you played around with a son of yeti? I know you have the creme brûlée which always sounds great when I hear it on the channel. Any other experience with his amps?
All the videos we do from Alex’s studio (like in this video) we either use the Creme Brûlée or the OTS Mini 20 which is his take on a Dumble style amp...that’s the only two Cetiatone Amps I’ve ever played through...and I really like both of them!!

I have the answer xotic reply to my message this is the reply - from (Xotic guitar & effects): It is its own thing - however it does have a midrange growl similar to the TS pedal. Its an overdrive - the name BB Preamp is meant to recall the preamp of a amp that you turn up to create overdrive

Tube Screamer circuit with added EQ in the middle, which makes it fuller than a typical Tube Screamer. Definitely NOT a Blues Breaker circuit.
Dialed in correctly, these pedals (and their clones) can do a decent approximation of an OCD, too.

Mine sounds best (clear but gritty) with gain at around 10'oclock, treble at 2, bass at 12, gain beyond 12 is getting quite compressed.
