Fun fact! CPA and did not go to grad school. Took science fiction literature and fencing in the summer after I graduated to hit my 150. :P

It’s so annoying in tax jobs when they value EA’s as equal to a CPA. It’s not even close

Great Insight. We see this with the CFP as well. My take is, both are GREAT if you are just starting out. However, If you have been at it for years, and could teach most of the classes by now, you are likely considering getting the letters just for marketing and/or social insecurities. Spending the equivalent amount of time and money on actual marketing and self confidence will likely far exceed the results of simply passing exams IMO.

I just got my EA to get a bonus from work but I still am studying for the CPA. I definitely agree CPA is more known than EA.

I’m an EA but am now going for the CPA license since I’ve noticed a demand in having audited financials, compilations, attestations, reviews, etc… Plus it’s very reputable. Although both EA and CPA can be different depending on which accounting path you take, they are the same in the tax field.
I enjoyed the video, Logan! Looking forward to more!💯

CPA is the prestige credential. A CPA has proven competence through education, continuing professional education, experience, and testing. This is not true for EAs and non-credentialed persons. I have found that CPAs overall are much more ethical than non-CPAs. I have been a CPA since 1971.

Here's a question, would I be able to start a CPA firm as myself without Audit experience? I am really only interested in doing taxes and bookkeeping, not looking to do Audit/Attest work just taxes/bookkeeping money management etc. If not then I am wondering if I should go work for a public CPA firm but at my current experience level in corporate that would be a sizable pay cut I think. Really just want to work for myself.

I'm an EA, when I started out, I looked at the equivalent CPA's and wondered why they got to charge so much more than me for the same work. Now it doesn't matter as my billable rate is equal or above most CPA's in my area. CPA's have a much better PR group I'll defiantly admit that, but many of the CPA's I know don't want to touch tax at all, they specialize in other area's.
Do you need a CPA, depends what you want to do. I looked at getting a TCP a while ago and decided I don't really want to do work in Tax Court, it's just nice when your client walks in with a Stat notice as the first time they tell you they got a letter from the IRS.

Hey Logan I'm in school to become a CPA. Do you recommend staying the extra year to get a CPA or to work and study for the CPA at the same time? Also, what is the success rate of opening a business? Can 90% of people open a CPA business and make over 100k? (if they're CPAs' of course) You're living the dream man keep it up.

I am in Canada and I am taking CPA for job security. someone in our accounting team just retired, and she's not a CPA, but when my manager hired a replacement, they hired someone who's is studying to become a CPA. Also, I was trying to get a promotion in the assistant controller as I work very closely with the controller, but ended up the manager hired a CPA for the role. so, seems like CPA is a MUST for any intermediate role... What do you think? I told my employer that I am interested in going for CPA and they support me and will pay for my education, but problem is I took many of my accounting course almost 10 years ago (but enough to get me enrolled into the CPA PEP program). I am wondering will there be a tough time going into the program, as I have forgot most of my stuff from Tax and Audit..... I don't mind study hard, but I hope they will provide enough study material so I don't have to go back to my class note from almost 10 years ago to look for references....

I'm unfamiliar with the CA CPA exam so I can't give much guidance on how hard it will be.
I studied 8 hours/day for 3 months for the US CPA exam.

Yeah this is the one video of yours I don't like. CPA's love to dump on EA's, but in the world of tax they are the same. I know EA's that can represent clients all the way into Tax Court! Plus EA's have nationwide practice rights and don't have to transfer their license state to state. And EA's have to abide by the same ethical standards and have the same ethics CPE's that CPA's have to take. While the prestige and notoriety is there by being a CPA, people will also realize that they can pay less for tax services and still get the same result. And that is ok for EA's because it doesn't cost so much to become an EA as opposed to a CPA. IT will works out in the end...can you provide a good service and a reasonable price!
