    "Make it your own style" - best conclusion ever. I have ordered a Fuji X-H1 with a 50mm f2 (the 1.x lenses will have to wait until I am a famous photographer) and I was asking myself whether the lense is the right choice (I usually don't shoot portrait)... until I have heard your conclusion. (Street) photography simply is very subjective ... and it is about what look you like.

    The overall consensus amongst so-called "street shooters" is to follow that Robert Capa quote "if your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough", that is street photography orthodoxy. Get in close with a 35mm lens, invade personal space, ala, Bruce Gilden, I say BS to that. I am more of the Bresson school, more candids, from a distance and try to draw as little attention to myself as possible, so teles and short zooms are very much an option for me. While I do have this lens, though I prefer the 18-55 (I know, sacrilegious amongst hardcore street shooters) on my X-E3, though I have played with the 56 in the past on the streets.

    • @HVRIS
      @HVRIS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it’s all subjective. I feel that street is spontaneous and is meant to tell a story of the urban environment. You want people to look at the photo and get a real sense of what it’s like to be there! One lens is not going to do that for you. Switching it up and using different focal lengths give different contexts. I find that more busy environments a telephoto like the 56 really helped me to catch that “vibe”. Thanks for your comment, nice to see some knowledge yet understanding that rules need to be broken haha

    85 is my favorite lens for street shooting that gets the job done without being intrusive. I also use a wide zoom when I'm going more for environmental street shooting rather than focusing on shooting people in the streets.

    • @HVRIS
      @HVRIS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes mate! I love both. I tend to use the 85 for a bit and when I get bored I’ll go wide haha. It keeps street photography interesting. I think primes make it so much fun and creates a challenge every time

    • @unbroken1010
      @unbroken1010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that because you're afraid to go up and actually talk to people and hear the story

    • @andgainingspeed
      @andgainingspeed 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unbroken1010 Fear can't be part of the equation if you're doing street photography. If you are engaging with your subjects it becomes environmental street portraiture. If that is the goal and you want to chat with random people, I wouldn't question your intentions or motivations. Story telling is what it comes down to. Whether you hear it or see it. Maybe you like both at the same time.

    Just got mine the other day, with the Xt2 yet to take it out in darker situations but so far the speed is not holding me back at all.
    I can see how it would but what i find is when its not much of focus change ie not from one end of the focus throw to the other its actually very snappy. But your right I find a longer focal length on the street better, no one really notices you at all BUT then im more about documenting rather than in you face street but when you to isolate an area its great. Goes really well in my kit 16 23 56 (all the 1.4's and 2s) may get the 35 at some point but im in no rush.

    alright so between the 1.2 and the 35 mm 2.0 wr wich one is the best for street photo , im more into the weather resistance but the 1.2 is amazing but im afraid it will break it i take it out in the rain or something . so what are the pro and cons between thosw two since you have them both?

    • @HVRIS
      @HVRIS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally love both, the 56 obviously gives you more bokeh and you don’t have to be as close to your composition. But yes I wouldn’t have it in the rain.
      The 35mm is still phenomenal, a bit more versatile too, a lot smaller, you can get nice bokeh still. But it honestly depends on your style of photography, sounds like you want to be run n gun and go in places where the weather condition is a bit rough, you wouldn’t regret the 35mm f2.
      I personally came from canon so the 56mm is really a small lens to me haha and I just don’t like being in the rain in general so it works out well for me and fits my style better for street

      I mean the 50mm seems to have some real nice bokeh compared to the 56mm it’s just that the 56mm gives a tad more light (which is useful for myself in weddings) otherwise for street f2 is absolutely fine! 🤟🏼

    This video at first made me think, "why is everybody gravitating to such long lenses for street photography these days," and then I developed a theory as I watched it: because digital has changed how most people are viewing photos (far bigger than 4x6) and modern lenses have vastly improved image quality, I think the ability to get greater detail now makes us crave greater detail, and pulling in means more detail punch.
    Also, hat off. There are enough "hip" photographer douchebags on youtube already.

    You must have amazingly steady technique because without OIS (or IBIS in the bodies) I found this lens difficult to avoid camera shake when shooting wide open or at shutter speeds below 125. I ended up moving mine along and got the 50-140. Nice lens but it's such a tank I almost never take it out. Considering the 50 f/2 but would be more attracted if it was at least f/1.4. Decisions...

    • @HVRIS
      @HVRIS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man I agree! For an 85mm at f1.2 it’s quite small which is awesome for travelling around. But, it is difficult to stay steady from time to time. Perhaps try the 35mm 1.4? I needed something similar to compliment my 56 and so far it’s working as intended!
