  • History of the Jiu Jitsu Legacy
Allan Góes is a 6th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) who was part a famous team that ruled the sport in the late 1980s/early 1990s, led by Carlson Gracie. Allan Goes was also a pioneer mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, having competed in promotions all around the world. Góes was one of the first of Carlson Gracie’s students to bring the famous CGA style of grappling to the United States.
Góes Jiu-Jitsu Club prides itself on being a fun, family-oriented studio, where people of all ages can come together in a low-pressure environment to learn important fighting fundamentals and build their self-confidence.
The studio is open to students of all ages who are interested in learning Jiu Jitsu fundamentals alongside their kids or by themselves and we hope this Patreon will allow our students additional ways to grow in their mastery of the Gentle Art. Oss.

Well, you have to add all the lying, scamming and criminal dishonesty to get the "true history" of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I like the part where they often mention Carlos "moving to the North of Brazil"...they mean when he went to prison for seducing under-aged girls...lol . The Part when Carely beat up Helio in the barn...where is Carlay's part? etc. And thats just geting started..

I haven't had proof yet. But, why would you be surprised? BJJ (as we know it today-as "the most effective self defense in the world"), is the product of strategic marketing (via Hollywood networking & UFC 1). We've been brainwashed to believe that fights take place on padded ground & you won't be jumped & stomped to death in a real street altercation. It's literally the new 80's "karate/movie kung fu." That's why Sakuraba & Vanderlei never had a problem passing a single solitary guard 😉

Indeed, Royler in ADCC, Rickson in Pride FC & Vale Tudo, and Royce in UFC promoted sport BJJ as well as self defense. Carlos lineage gave us a sport, Hélio lineage gave us a self defense art, and they interconnected after as a family. Maybe, Carlson is more important because he tough to more students.

The first Gracies brothers (Carlos, Helio, George and so on) were mainly focused on self defense, the brazilian jiu jitsu was develop based on how weak people could defend themselves from strong people and due to this they weren't worried about competition. After decades of this kind of practice, in the 70s Carlson and Rolls started to teach at the same academy, but in different days, and even they being brothers, they started to estimulate competition among theis students. • @PauloJonatasSilveira
      @PauloJonatasSilveira 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Neither of them... Carlsos learned Judo from Maeda (which was already modified but much simpler), superficially, perfected with other Japanese...
But it's not just Judo anymore with Helio and George... and it's the two who say it, with video recording and newspapers...
Carlson learned from Helio who learned from Carlos and George, but the modifications that transformed Jiujitsu into Vale Tudo, starts with George and then changes more with Helio, George according to his own son, he had a different style, he already had a good ground game, but more focused on ground and pound, less guard...
So much so that the styles of George's students are more upright... like Ivan Gomes, Euclides Pereira, Ivan's brother gives the impression that there was no closed guard, for example, in their style...he even called "that Gracie guard" "the scissor guard"...
So it kept changing after George left...including in things that became character of bjj...
Carlson learns from Hélio, but he certainly perfects and trains with other arts, because in his generation he faces those who already know Jiujitsu too...the level had risen a lot since retirement from Hélio, starting with Waldemar Santana who was a student of Hélio...Rolls trains judo, sambo, wrestler, and is Carlson's student...keeps evolving...
But the game change, which changes the STYLE, is with George and then with Hélio ...

    Quem ensinou o Carlson?

The Helio side got it right. The sport has almost completely killed real self defense Jiu-jitsu. Its a shame really. Sport BJJ now is a joke. Thanks to Rorion for bringing REAL jiu-jitsu to the united states. There is a reason Helio didn't want to teach the "common man" Jiu-jitsu.

Please explain your "common man" comment. I see the Helio side as focusing more (not that the Carlos lineage doesn't) on the average person who wants self defense primarily, as you stated. To me, sticking to this vision naturally results in less emphasis on mma and sport bjj and the more elite athletes seeking that (not that they don't have those folks training in Helio-influenced schools).

@@jims512 you pretty much answered most of it. Natural body movement and energy efficiency is what Helio wanted to display in his curriculum. Sports has really grown into its own community but its curriculum has a lot of athletic content. Even the practitioners are on the secret juice to win titles. Self defense is important to the common people who aren’t athletes to make a technique work on bigger opponents.

Man.. respecting history and origin stories is important but there’s a threshold after which it becomes religious. It’s off putting and cringe.
