This is by far the most intelligent, insightful and genuine I've seen Eddie speak in anything. I felt his "persona" kind of melted away, and we got to really see why he became such a successful personality through his thoughts & his story.

right? no frills, just 'real talk'. And I absolutely agree with what he had to say.

thats exactly what i felt, that hard street persona is just a little difficult to watch sometimes, this is very refreshing

the point is that he controls both aspects of his persona. you don't get one without the other, and you don't get to call shots on which aspect of eddie you get to consume. i find this very inspiring.

Huy Dao Fair point. I just find the angry-Asian-kid-from-the-streets act he puts on is unnecessary, from my perspective...which, btw, is an Asian-American who grew up in a poor, mostly black neighborhood, haha.

By you saying you don't like it, I think it makes it more necessary. The whole point was to learn in your own way. That is in his foundation. There is no necessary, just subjectively better because his persona didn't change the context.

Very ahead of his time. Divorcing himself from institutionalized education and succeeding in the present and future of the internet and popculture. Huang King👑 Uplifted Mindset.

Learning is nothing less and nothing more than being emotionally inclined toward something. For example, Eddie was emotionally inclined to cook because of the stigmas around cooking due to his relationship with his family and the struggles to find his place in his subculture inside a larger culture. At first, we was against cooking because he was not emotionally inclined to do so. However, with time, there were large emotional deposits made that he was finally able to withdraw from... he would have never learned or been compelled to cook without some kind of emotional inclination to do so.

Maybe it's because she tried to summarize all speakers with one overarching theme. But what she said about Eddie's talk was way off the mark.
On a more positive note, Eddie's talk was very powerful and I completely agree with him.

Moderator at the end got his speech completely wrong. It’s not about needing help, it’s about finding the right vehicle to deliver education. A bespoke education.

3:33 "Me and my parents..." 7:09 "Him and his brother..." That is why you go to school. Before you tell me that grammar isn't important, I will tell you that for 99% of the people in the world it is. I admire Eddie Huang for breaking out, creating his own way, and becoming successful. But, his path isn't the only path, and it's probably not the best path for most people. Sure, don't blindly believe in what your teachers and institutions are telling you, but don't shun them and disconnect from them. You have to play a part in this world, and there's not enough room room for everyone to live on the fringe.

the guy went to law school of course he knows "proper grammar" but communication is about context and no one wants to hear a speech from a grammar nazi
