On the missing gearknob should be a button the wires run up the middle of the lever tube operate a solenoid in the gearbox it's like a neutral button...the brakes binding could be a collapsed brake pipe or master cylinder seals...

Handy size dumper, as for the brakes i check the master cylinder is not seized and has the correct fluid in it, had the same symptoms on my Benford.

Mine is very similar - - SXR5000 with a swivel skip but it has an Iveco engine. Mine also needs a new gear knob so, if you find one, let it be known where from.
