  • Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Yoga C740, the company’s mid-range convertible 14” Ultrabook with a premium metal chassis, touchscreen, pen support and Intel 10th gen Ice Lake quad core CPUs. The specs and build are quite nice, particularly given the $699 starting price. There’s also a 15.6” version with similar specs. The laptop has a full HD IPS display, Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, up to 16GB DDR4 RAM and a fast M.2 NVMe SSD. The C740 has a backlit keyboard, fingerprint scanner, MS Precision trackpad and it’s available in Iron Gray and Mica colors. We also compare it to the higher end Lenovo Yoga C940 in this video. Our Yoga C940 review is here: • Lenovo Yoga C940 14" R...

    Awesome review ! But it's a bummer to see so much unused space inside, and only a 51 Wh battery for a 14" compared to the 48 Wh one of the 13.3" Yoga 730. same for the weight, it's heavier than the C940 while having less features !

    i just bought my c740 a month ago and love it! did so many comparisons and this has all the things i want.. still i7 10th Gen. 1TB storage 16GB ram. Wifi 6. .. 1 USB A at the right (i like having a wired mouse still) and USB C on the left so it doesnt' get crowded on the right... and it doesn't heat up like my previous Asus. And best part i like.. is the front facing speakers.. sure it doesn't rotate like C940.. but if you using it like a normal laptop.. damn its' loud .. i dont need to hook up speakers anymore when doing workout on youtube.. now i also know why ppl keep talking about keyboard it's quite nice .. only thing is batt life.. i'm only getting 3 or 4 hours>? but with promo this convertible is a steal.. and super value for money..oh yes plus a pen.... i like that vol button is just pressing f2 and f3 directly and i dont need to have to press function button at the same time....

    I picked one of these up from Best Buy for 600$ about 2 months ago, it has been such a fantastic little machine. My previous xps 13 motherboard died after 6 months. I can say I am more satisfied with this c740 than my xps 13 (9370) in every single way. Trackpad, battery, screen, thermals, design, etc.

      @@tunnelvisiongaming3745 mine was already partially charged so i would say i charged it about 1 hr to get it fully charged then have just been plugging it in when it gets low. my old laptop had a bad battery toward the end after 6 years and i partly blame myself for just chronically leaving it on hibernate instead of turning it off so i've been careful with this one (don't know if that actually does anything or not) but yeah i've had it since December and it's been giving me consistent battery life. the only thing that is weird is that the only time it starts to actually get warm is when i am charging it but not hot or anything. cooling is pretty good for the amt of stuff i have open on the daily.

    If this was 600 bucks I would consider it more, but the C940 with the i7 with iris plus, 12 gb of Ram, and 512gb of storage is regularly on sale for 1,000 bucks.
    That also includes Thunderbolt 3, included pun, better speakers, slightly lighter, and slightly better overall build quality. Worth 300 bucks in my opinion. I’d personally wait for this to go on sale if you are planning on getting it unless you need a $700 laptop right now.

    Not much has changed since my 730. Privacy slider is the only thing obvious. Still has the same hard-to-open design with no finger purchase help. The hinges don't look changed. Mine bound up when opening and popped off a small trim panel. Lenovo won't cover it. Mine has the same finish and it shows fingerprints easily. 4K was a bad choice for me ironically, since Adobe apps have poor font and icon scaling for a 4K screen of this size. I don't recommend either this series Yoga nor Lenovo.

  • @sayrewilkin9372
    @sayrewilkin9372 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Warning: I purchased this laptop 2 months ago and seriously regret my decision. I wish I had made the decision to return it while I still had the opportunity. There are definitely positive attributes, but the speakers are unforgivably quiet no matter what "enhancements" you try to adjust in the settings. It's significantly quieter than my 3 year old phone on max volume. If there's even a small amount of noise in your background, you'll struggle to hear your audio or watch a video even on max volume. For a device this size, the speaker that was chosen just doesn't make sense and the decision seems insulting to the consumer.
    The other inexcusable failing is the battery life. The battery will drain from 98% to 25% in a couple hours of regular work use (emails, web browsing, file storing). This is pretty shocking to me having come from a MacBook whose battery could last most of the work day if needed. A lot of the features I purchased it for are as good as expected, but these two let downs are so invasive they're hard to look past.

      Bought this laptop, very satisfied, very good battery life. I'm literally on my laptop all day and it will last me 8-10 hours. For the sound, speakers are decent loud and usable. but at this point I mostly use my bluetooth headphones which is more useful for me than loud speakers since everyone can hear it. I've looked at many laptops Dell xps, hp spectre/envy, by far this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing laptop on the market that you can buy for the price. The aluminum chasis gives it a very premium feel that's similar in tier to a macbook air. Display is very sharp, I have an older laptop with a 4k oled display and couldn't tell the difference in resolution side by side comparison. Only complaint is I wish the display was brighter but 310 nits is good enough and wasn't so reflective. Bit I'm about to buy a matte screen protector to protect the screen from constant fingerprint smudges from touchscreen use and potential scratches.

    You get jitter because you draw on a computer screen that is freely moving, also because you need to enable left-hand pen use. Try leaving the computer on a table so it's steady when you use the pen on the screen

    I bought this laptop and after one day it died on me... Shame beacuse I really liked it. Ended up replacing it with a S730 (the new one with intel 10th gen), other than the inferior batter life and no touch/tablet mode its a great machine. I would still recommend the C740 as long as you have warranty as its cheaper and has the advantages I've already mentioned. If no thunderbolt 3 is a deal breaker, go for the S730

      Best Buy, you'll get it sooner, but Lenovo has a wonderful return policy (as someone who's used it before, lol), so up to you, really! Both usually have really good deals, but Lenovo has some killer ones! Just depends on timing, really!

    • @likeachildluv
      @likeachildluv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@7Write4This9Heart7 Hi, thank you for your reply. I know that right now only Lenovo has a larger storage(512GB) to Bestbuy's(256GB) with the same price! But I am worried if the product goes wrong, the Lenovo customer service is bad at helping me, since I have had an unpleasant experience with the HP's. That kind of left a scar on me on whether or not buying a laptop from the brand's website would grant the similar customer service as the Bestbuy has.

    I'm planning to buy this laptop and for some reason I overlooked that the usb-c ports are not thunderbolt 3 but 3.1 gen 1. I plan on using this notebook for programming work with bluetooth peripherals and one external full hd monitor. Do you think that I should rather get this model (i7 version) or the C930 model (i5 version)? They cost the same amount and I can't decide between the thuderbolt 3 ports and better soundbar vs better processor.

    i really like the new macbook air 2020 which you reviewed but i'm worried it is too small since ive been working on a 15in for over a decade. i'm considering this as the 15in model because of the "tablet" ability. how would you rate the tablet functionality. ive never tested one of these 2-in-1's. is it odd with the keyboard on the back?
