They might give you $100 if you send it in to trade up for a 7Black.

Just to confirm, will the GPS work post update? Considering Go pro hero 2018 and Go pro hero 5 has same h/w.

Wow, very interesting. I just noticed my local Walmart has marked the hero 5 black down to only $50 more than the hero. Trying to sell them before word gets out?

just updated to hero5.. apparently everything worked fine until i turned off the wifi. when I tried to turn it on again (wifi), its greyed out and no luck to turn it on again.
Hmm 🤔 I would try to reflash and then if that didn’t work and you really need to use WiFi flash the original firmware
@@GetOutTheHouseGoFish well i tried to revert it back to stock firmware but it will not recognize the Hero 2018 firmware.
i flashed it over a year and now the gopro app said that it have a software update(hero5black), can i do the OTA update or not?

@@GetOutTheHouseGoFish Cannot upgrade. says it does when using the app but when you check the GoPro it does not have the updated firmware. Curious as to what extra batteries I can buy now
What about the audio quality after updating to hero 5 because 2018 has more good and loud audio than 5 and 6. please reply
It would have to be tested but It should be the same since the hardware is the same between the Hero and Hero5 Black.
Everything went fine except the prune option doesn’t appear on the screen .

Anything the Hero5 Black can do your good because it is a Hero5 Black :-)
The external Mic you need the adapter which is $49.
I have it but it has not been reliable when I’ve used it. I prefer using the foam covers

No thats not possible. The camera is different so it will not work . But 2018 is the same camera as hero 5 thats why it wotks
after we turn hero 2018 to hero 5 black how do we update future updates?
That is a good question; I don’t currently have a converted hero but if one has been updated with the firmware technically it should now be a Hero 5 Black and you should be able to update like a normal Hero 5 Black.
Or download the update then place on the SD card and update that way.
@@GetOutTheHouseGoFish I downloaded the new 2.70 hero 5 black update, installed the new update on my sd card and tried to update it manually I did not update that way. It showed an exclamatory mark. I tried the app way too. Same issue, it would be nice if someone finds a solution for this soon.

Doesn't that say it upgrades the new GoPro Hero 2018? Not the original GoPro Hero camera? Or am I misreading it?
Yes and no because it is the New “GoPro Hero” that looks like the 5 & 6 and the only way to tell the difference is the label name on the side of the camera. The original GoPro Hero of course looked nothing like the newer GoPros and you needed a case to water proof them.
But the new 2018 model GoPro Hero has the same parts as the Hero5 Black with a lesser firmware.
Hey was just wondering if all of this was still working as I was planning on getting a gopro hero 2018 for Christmas. Also, I know it might seem stupid but I need an sd card reader so I can plug it into my computer right?Or is there another way to do it
As long as the links work where the files are located it should still work.
I have a card reader in my desktop and laptop but if you don’t have one you can get a plug.in USB reader or use the WiFi on the camera but that takes too long to transfer files.

When Authentech had the video up he stated that you could go back to the old version but you would need that firmware.
Excuse me. I want turn back go2018 because it has error. I downloaded the update2018 file on the homepage and put it on the memory card. But gopro does not update itself or it does not happen. help me pls
Authentech deleted their video on this. I guess thay got a warning from gopro or something. Haha anyway, I'm planning on doing this when I get my hands on the gopro2018. Does this really work? Won't this brick your device? Has anyone done it and got no issues after a month or so? I'm afraid it might break the camera.
Yes it does work. I didn’t realize Authentech deleted the video.
I haven’t seen a bricked Hero yet after doing the firmware update.
I did this for a cheap multi-angle film production. got a few spares too, it turned out great. also tested doing 360 degree 4k video, and also experimented with 3d.

It is safe to convert Hero 2018 to Hero 5 ? Have anyone had problem after updating Firmware?
I have not heard of any problems and it can be reversed as long as you have the firmware.

Does this enable the external mic input also?
This makes your Hero into the Hero5 Black so every option the Hero5 Black has you now have.
Your Hero is a Hero5 Black with just a different firmware. This update makes it a Hero5 Black.
One thing to note; I have the Hero5 and Hero6 and still have issues with that $49 GoPro mic adapter
