    I genuinely appreciate the fact that you keep emphasizing on your disdain towards subscription models, and I hope you keep doing it, as I don't think its heading in a good direction for the consumer. At least in the long term.

      Its just another option like all these plugins are still same price with same sales but you now have the option of a subscription or even better the Splice model which is rent to own.

      I'm really not a fan of subscriptions either. I'd rather own a license. I don't like plugins that have to "call home" every time you load it either. I've seen people get burned by that method and it sucks. Too reliant on the developer even after purchase. Anything happens to them your license useless.

    When Peter Gabriel was recording 'Sandstorm' by Darude, he got Phil Collins to play the drums in the stone room at the Townhouse. Engineer Hugh Padgham recorded the sound of the drums through the listen mic, and thus the "gated reverb snare sound" of the 1980s was born. It's nice of you to upload the original mastertape.

    I got this for 20 bucks a couple weeks ago. Honestly, it doesn't sound great on it's own, but pushed ridiculously hard, it works great as a parallel drum compressor. Lives in my template just for the parallel flavor.

      This is how I feel about the Softube Dynamite. It’s ridiculously aggressive, seems not too useable at first glance but it’s *immensely* satisfying in parallel. Im able to use it like a transient designer this way, blending in a spiky splat to taste.

    The SSL Drumstrip also has the LMC as one of many features. Sound pretty much on par. What's missing is the scoop and split. But the sound was already available in the Drumstrip plugin. They could've updated the Drumstrip with the newer minimal functions. That's why I personally would call it snake oil, because they present the LMC as something "new" and they don't tell you it's already in another one of their plugins.

    Hey man! Just to explain your NULL results and your thoughts; you will never be able to NULL any of the correctly modeled "analog" plugins because one element in the analog modeling is randomness. Randomness is added just because analog gear will sound a tiny bit different every time it is used, but the difference may not be audible. Try it if you like by using for example only the au-plugin and NULL them, it will never be 100% silence. This of course also means that rosetta or anything else is not "doing" something.

    tbh subscription models are what keep pushing me to pirate software until I can purchase the products outright.
    And often the companies that offer subscription models will rarely put their products on sale or make them consumer friendly prices, because they'd actually prefer you being shackled to their subscription model.
    it's far more lucrative for them, long-term.
    Antares for example, want us to pay their grand children's private school tuitions with their subscription price, and product prices.
    I'm sorry I just can't afford all those subscriptions, then my phone bill, car payments, rent, electricity, subscriptions to movie services, etc.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies
    @DeadWhiteButterflies ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The way I see it, subscriptions are just a way to get more money out of you than if you bought it outright. It makes it look like your saving, but you'll have definitely bought that plying several times over in the course of a few years of having that subscription. It's only cheap if you're not doing it all the time, and you have to do its all the time if you're an engineer and you need those tools to do your work.

I do this a lot with the Izotope stuff. In a proffesional setting where you basically use your plugins all the time anyway I can see why you would prefer to just buy it instead. But if you're a plugin company that takes itself even remotely seriously; you MUST supposed apple silicon. This is not even up for debate. The fact that they don't support it is usually quite telling for how they handle other issues/modernisation in their software.

    Sounds like this plugin tries to recreate Peter Gabriels third album recording session in 1980. Phil Collins was the drummer on that album. They created the 80’s drum sound by accident but it caught on. I wonder why developers are slow with supporting M1 chips. Maybe it’s not as straight forward as a simple recompile…… perhaps it’s a time-cost related business decision? It is a completely different architecture after all which they have to learn. Imagine if they still had to hand-optimise the Assembly code. Back in the 80’s a typical developer would have ported it in no time to a completely different machine without the luxury of modern programming tools. I bet they could do a simple recompile to make it work on an M1 in a few hours.😁

Similarly I won’t consider Native Instruments Komplete package because many of their things are not yet M1 native. As you say, it has been about 2 years since the first M1 Mac went on sale. Any company that can’t be ready at release time of new processors or system software is an anchor holding back progress, and there are plenty of companies that can be ready on day one of such releases. I go with them, and have never had a problem updating my computer’s software on day one of release. Such companies tend to follow standards such as those Apple dictates making them near invulnerable to system updates and driver software is simply not needed.

    Well… Here at home here. I have an alternate pair of, control room monitor speakers. Not as fine as the ones,, in my control room. Nevertheless… The AU Version, you're right. It does not sound the same.. It sounds better. It has a more present, forward feel to it. It's fascinatingly different from your other plug-in. So, not sure what's going on there?
    Frankly, every onne of these, plug-in types. From, Direct X to that of RTAS, VST-1 & 2 & 3. These are all packet sizing the data.. In different ways. And the consisstency is out the window. When compared to our former analog way of doing things. When you could get a good nulling out. Without all this frequency time delay multiplexing.. That really prevents audio from doing its own thing. That we as engineers have learned how to negotiate with.
    And so largely I'm not a complainer. Tell me what you want recorded and I do it.. And you'll win awards with it. Because yes I am that good. And I know what I'm doing. And how to do it..
    And so you are cute,, adorable and fun to watch and listen to. I see and hear a little bit of Mozart in everything you say. But it's likely just your accent that's, faking me out? But you'll do. You're cute. A cute kid. That one day. May figure out how to make great recordings. Under highly compromised conditions and equipment. Which can make one so much better. When you don't have all the goodies to work with. Then you have to put on your creative thinking Hat. And burst out from conventionality! You'll be glad you did.
    You see… Sonny boy. Everything I record I record live. For records, FM and TV broadcasts. My first Internet stream was 1997. Counting Crows, live from Columbia Maryland. It was a good show. I didn't see the show. Except on TV. Because I was in the control room mixing it. Live. And acoustics can be frightening. You don't geet your choice. There's nothing you can do. The acoustics are awful! Everything is going to sound screwed up! And you can't let it be that way. It has to sound great. There is no other way. There is no other choice. You have to perform and succeed. And without anybody knowing, in all that is wrong and failing. And that requires quite a bit of engineering skill, knowledge, technique, experience.. To make it sound like a killer hit record. At last what I do and how I do it. Acoustics notwithstanding! Acoustics horrible! Bleed so bad. You think you're going to pass out. And die from lack of acoustics. But you forge on! Until the sound stops entirely. When the music is brought to a halt. For,, electrical thunderstorms. With lightning hits all around us. And the master power breaker was thrown. Yikes! Everythingg went black! Yet I was still conscious.. On planet Earth one moment. Somewhere in the black void beyond, next. And my control room ain't got no booster rocket! And it's tough to make live recordings like that. Kind of scary and creepy actually. But good solid fun nevertheless. And everybody has a good time until somebody loses an eye.
    There cann be only one infinity

    There are too many SSL-based plugins on the market and most of those are uninspiring and un-needed!

  • @ramspencer5492

    An SSL subscription? They don't exactly have a large catalog of must have plug-ins.... That's actually surprising and kind of weird. I also dislike subscription models.

  • @RemmyMusic1

    absolutely no excuse for a company to provide a subscription 'live service' for their plugins while simultaneously ignoring current system requirements. Native apple support having been out for a couple years now you'd think the adoption rate would be higher for those same companies offering a monthly rental bill on their software. Shameful really. I've stripped away any company who is clearly ignoring support in favour of profit in my plugin list. SSL is one of them

  • @alsoulmusic
    @alsoulmusic ปีที่แล้ว

    No it is not too much to ask for it to be apple silicon native. Even more so if it is a subscription. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

    these plugins are so overpriced the ssl fusion is cool but each module is seperate ? that's really a disgusting way to market .why not a bundle or a single unit like the analog ssl fusion?
    anyway the problem is that there are better options that cost way less.

    It’s been two years since silicon now. Don’t support companies that aren’t native. Says a lot about the quality of their developers. We live in a world where there is like 20 alternatives to all plugins.

    your thumbnail is almost telling exactly where to place this plugin. i see first of all youre not amused, by closer inspection of your face i see a underlining emotion of joy tho. so, that means:
    1: The most important properties (UI , advertisement, Payment-models) must be not fullfilled
    2: secoundary properties are fullfilled (Sound)
    haha, im just having bit fun.

    Some dude has bought an expensive drum kit and they there are other people (producers) who destroys the sound of it. Why are people smashing (destroying) their drum sounds?!? It sounds like s%#t! The only smashed drums that sounds good I´ve ever heard was The Levee Breaks with Led Zeppelin and those drums where mostly smashed because of the ambience of that really lively room. His drums sounded big and clear. And since that not so clever people has tried to replicate that in a really stupid way it sounds like small paper drums. Why don´t people think?!?

    • @Zorax2144
      @Zorax2144 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn't when the levee breaks literally heralded as why compressing your drums hard sounds good? We're talking 2 room mics with 10 db of compression blended HEAVILY into the rest of the kit. If you're talking about this video as your only example of why it's bad, I get it, but hes also pushing purposefully hard without using them in parallel to showcase the sound of the compressor.

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions ปีที่แล้ว

      Because drums in a room are boring. Smashing them super heavily isn't always good but there is a mid point in compression that is cool. It's an effect like anything but come on some of those huge 80s sounds are cool. If you want a natural jazz sound no but records are about being exciting. There are plenty of examples of heavy drum compression that sounds cool Phil Collins being the biggest example of this style of talk back compression.

      @@Zorax2144 I get the idea of compressing the room mikes, that gives the sound a clear character and ambience, but mangle the near miked drums ... not a good idea. I´m not talking about this video more of a general sickness of destroying the drum sound by too much compression. An equally bad choice is stereo widening everything. I love to hear exactly where the guitar amplifier is in the mix, where the acoustic guitars are placed like in the Beatles´ or Stones´ tracks.

    It is too much to expect from 2 years old newborn baby to be liked and supported by everyone. Maybe in 5-6 years if that baby shows the real potential of use for everyone and not be so arrogantly expensive. You are TH-camr from Netherland who is making content for Americans and are using Apple products which are most popular there. From my knowledge in Europe, most people have PCs and are using Cubase, Reaper, Live, or Fl Studio.

    You literally make no sense when you say you wouldn't buy a plugin if it doesn't support your OS. But you are willing to buy a system that doesn't support MANY plugins. Apple is literally a pain in the ass for all these plugin developers and APPLE is the problem. Not the plugin developers.
