      Double Stopping, playing two notes at the same time.....
      Why is it called double stopping?
      They're called double stops because you are playing two notes at once. On a technical level, a 'stop' is a term for fretting the strings. You are stopping the vibration of the open string with your left hand.

      Danger good, okay?
      This technique is used to enhance bass in processes where headroom is at a premium and the same is also done with in the high end of the audio spectrum but they call it something like an "Exciter". I wish I knew how to properly use them and how they affect other upstream and downstream processes.

    What amazes me about SSL plugins as well is that they are very stable on Mac OS. Even on Ventura.

    • @rome8180
      @rome8180 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only plugins I've found that aren't stable on Mac are the Plugin Alliance stuff. I've been waiting for months for them to update their plugins to work with Ventura. I wouldn't have updated my operating system if I'd known it was going to be an issue. But I needed to update it for other reasons. So now I'm stuck in a situation where Plugin Alliance stuff is an integral part of my workflow, but it crashes my Logic sessions dozens of times a day.
      Never had a single problem with any other company though. I use all the major ones -- Waves, UAD, Softtube, Soundtoys, Fab Filter, etc.

    As soon as I saw this on the SSL site a few hours ago, I installed it (I have the SSL complete subscription). I'm currently working on a song that did indeed have a weak bass, and although there are other ways to add heft to it, this was easy, focused, and sounds great. It was a fast process too.
    I'm a recent convert to the SSL ecosystem, as I spent a lot of hours on SSL consoles in the late 80s and early 90s. It's infinitely easier for me to dial in a mix using their stuff, but that's mostly from "muscle memory".
    I strongly advise anyone with ANY experience in the analog console days to try out the SSL stuff.

    I use this thing on bass guitar all the time, the secret is to use narrower bands and search out the most musical frequencies to have it gain up, usually the root note of the key the song is in if that’s possible.

    If the lowest value on the knob was labelled 0, then the highest value on the knob would then be labelled 10. I'm just pointing out, the distance from 1-11 is still a distance of 10.

      Oh there asre definitely sub-harm generators with length controls, I think its needs to be a spectral processor in order to do that? To my ears it sounded like it was lengthening the windows, any window with bass content in it would have bass generated through the entirety of the window, and the plugin (something by melda i think?) ran with lag to allow those windows to line up properly while still allowing for the spectral processing. In other words, I don't think you can get this length control unless you are running with a lag, otherwise the bass would sound late, mushy, and flammy.

    I'm skeptical (and frustrated), I have lots of saturation plugins, none of them really give me the kind of bass I hear in homemade music from the early 90s. The idea that adding saturation to the low end to make it heard does help... but it's not everything. I'm trying to get rich low end that sounds like low end, not obvious saturation that's adding tons of harmonic to the midrange.
