Those who actually don’t gain weight easily are more prone to certain health issues because they don’t see change in their appearance. Acceptance is a must really but when it comes to looking up to someone in terms of fitness, I think it’s best to find someone with a similar body type and actually live a healthy lifestyle because everyone is different.

I've been body shamed most of my life. One that stands out online happened a couple of years ago. There was an article shared by George Takei about a girl who was showing before and after pics with Spanx like shapewear to promote body positivity. The article was about people being aware that what you see online isn't always reality. In that spirit I commented with a side by side pic from my Instagram page where I'd similarly shown how different I look from different angles. In one side I used the downward angle that was flattering and made me appear thinner than I am, In the other I used a front facing less flattering angle that showed my muffin top belly etc. The first few comments were quite positive telling me that I'm pretty and one girl complimented my eyebrows of all things lol THEN a guy commented that he guessed he'd have to be the one to "reality check" the others and called them enablers for encouraging me as an "obese" person who was apparently "promoting obesity" even though nothing in my post encouraged anyone to do anything other than realize that not everyone is perfect and it's okay to love your body as is. Anyway, He went on with his faux concern for my health not once addressing me directly or using my clearly visible name (as this was Facebook) instead he talked about me to the other commenters. So, I gave a lengthy reply that started by addressing the fact that "that girl" is a grown woman with a name and the ability to defend herself. And countered his faux concern by explaining that not only had I not asked for his opinion or advice nor had he asked me about my health and had only made assumptions about it but the only legitimate health concern I had was lipodema which is often misdiagnosed as obesity and causes fat deposits on my thighs and hips that can't be relieved by diet or exercise and require cosmetic surgery that is often not covered by insurance until it becomes painful if then. I also pointed out that he had no idea where I was in my health journey and that I'd recently lost 60lbs because he hadn't asked. He went on to call me an "exception" if I was somehow healthy at my weight (which he still didn't know) and there was a 3 day long battle in the comments of this thread between those defending me and those agreeing with the shamer. I finally started posting pictures I liked of myself in the thread like one of me doing a high kick and after a few the shamer said to stop posting my pics "this isn't your Instagram feed" to which I replied "It's also not a court but you sure seem to be doing a lot of judging here." I then told the commenters to stop feeding the troll and turned off notifications to that thread for my own sanity. This was at a time when I had only recently gained the courage and self love to start posting full body images instead of just my face on social media so the positive comment that started it all had been difficult for me to begin with and his and other negative comments made my blood boil. Because I had been working on my self esteem I was able to stay positive nothing the shamer said was remotely helpful to me and I hope others learn to have an open mind and realize that they can't possibly tell a person's health by a pic and certainly don't have the right to speak about it with no knowledge of where they even are on their journey.

someone in my school said you looked a lot better last year, but last year i was dramatically underweight from anorexia and could barely walk down the stairs without nearly fainting, thanks to therapy i am a healthy weight now luckily. It's surprising how people try to act as if they try to help people recover from eating disorders yet ultimately end up pure body shaming them.

I personally believe that the statement, "lose some weight" is equal to "grow some meat on your bones". I am quite a skinny young lady and I have been told that when I can't lift something, I need to grow some meat on my bones, it hurt and made me anxious (to this day, I still think about it and it was 5 years ago, I am now 18), it's same as saying that someone can't fit because they need to lose weight. Being overweight and underweight doesn't matter, instead focus on the size of your smile.=) Girls and boys, men and women, we are to be looked at and judged, don't give in! When people have made comments about shaming my body, I have either not responded or I have just said something along the lines of "Well that's literally just the way I was made, i have no control" over something like how tiny my wrists are.
When I was twelve I moved schools, in the school I was moving from there was a whole lot of bullying going on about me that I didn't realize. The fact that I was leaving the school that year gave me a boost of confidence and I stood up to my bullies (a group of four 9th graders) and asked them why they were targeting me. I can't remember exactly what I said word for word- but I remember yelling a lot and the line: "If opposites attract then I bet your girlfriend is the nicest girl on the planet." Good job 12-year-old me! After I finished my rant, one of the boys wolf-whistled and said: "You know- she is pretty cute, despite all her stretch marks." Excuse me? I was a twelve-year-old girl who just happened to hit puberty a little harder than most. He was a 9th grader who had targeted me online and in person and he fucking catcalled me. I told my aunt- who at the time was a teacher. He got suspended and I haven't heard from him since. I love my body and my new school and it's important that you love yourself as well. I also pointed out that he had no idea where I was in my health journey and that I'd recently lost 60lbs because he hadn't asked. He went on to call me an "exception" if I was somehow healthy at my weight (which he still didn't know) and there was a 3 day long battle in the comments of this thread between those defending me and those agreeing with the shamer. I finally started posting pictures I liked of myself in the thread like one of me doing a high kick and after a few the shamer said to stop posting my pics "this isn't your Instagram feed" to which I replied "It's also not a court but you sure seem to be doing a lot of judging here." I then told the commenters to stop feeding the troll and turned off notifications to that thread for my own sanity. This was at a time when I had only recently gained the courage and self love to start posting full body images instead of just my face on social media so the positive comment that started it all had been difficult for me to begin with and his and other negative comments made my blood boil. Because I had been working on my self esteem I was able to stay positive nothing the shamer said was remotely helpful to me and I hope others learn to have an open mind and realize that they can't possibly tell a person's health by a pic and certainly don't have the right to speak about it with no knowledge of where they even are on their journey.

I actually have a hiatal hernia and it sucks. My weight is constantly going up and down the same 15 pounds because the hernia makes it nearly impossible to keep any food down. I'm sending my love Aaron cuz I seriously feel him. ❤

1) Insecure about their own bodies, possibly jealous.

There's no way in hell that you're a good friend, loving partner, or decent person in general if this is how to treat people. I am honestly sorry if you have some issues that you need to work out yourself, but honey you are not dealing with it right. someone in my school said you looked a lot better last year, but last year i was dramatically underweight from anorexia and could barely walk down the stairs without nearly fainting, thanks to therapy i am a healthy weight now luckily. It's surprising how people try to act as if they try to help people recover from eating disorders yet ultimately end up pure body shaming them.

It doesn't matter what other people think, if they want to spend their time being rude to you and criticizing your body, who cares?! It's bullying and it's wrong; but most importantly, whatever they say is false! Don't let others cut you down because you are beautiful! Love yourself for who you are. The most beautiful part of these people is how they don't let others shame them, they have courage and confidence and shut them down.

I personally believe that the statement, "lose some weight" is equal to "grow some meat on your bones". I am quite a skinny young lady and I have been told that when I can't lift something, I need to grow some meat on my bones, it hurt and made me anxious (to this day, I still think about it and it was 5 years ago, I am now 18), it's same as saying that someone can't fit because they need to lose weight. Being overweight and underweight doesn't matter, instead focus on the size of your smile.=) Girls and boys, men and women, we are to be looked at and judged, don't give in! I have experienced it. 1nce my uncle kept sayin, " ur to small " over & over. & Each time he said it I just kept sayin, " no I'm not. " Then he said that I had to" maintain ". I just said wutever & went back 2 eatin my cheese sticks. I think he thought I had anorexia or somethin. But yea my whole fam is always tryna 2 get me 2 eat more & they celebrate anytime I gain weight. It's super annoyin & hate it.
When people have made comments about shaming my body, I have either not responded or I have just said something along the lines of "Well that's literally just the way I was made, i have no control" over something like how tiny my wrists are.

When I was twelve I moved schools, in the school I was moving from there was a whole lot of bullying going on about me that I didn't realize. The fact that I was leaving the school that year gave me a boost of confidence and I stood up to my bullies (a group of four 9th graders) and asked them why they were targeting me. I can't remember exactly what I said word for word- but I remember yelling a lot and the line: "If opposites attract then I bet your girlfriend is the nicest girl on the planet." Good job 12-year-old me! After I finished my rant, one of the boys wolf-whistled and said: "You know- she is pretty cute, despite all her stretch marks."
Excuse me? I was a twelve-year-old girl who just happened to hit puberty a little harder than most. He was a 9th grader who had targeted me online and in person and he fucking catcalled me. I told my aunt- who at the time was a teacher. He got suspended and I haven't heard from him since. I love my body and my new school and it's important that you love yourself as well. I've been body shamed and it's really hurtful, especially coming from friends and family. I don't appreciate it when others judge me based on my body. I've even had girls go as far as not wanting to be friends with me because I am larger then them.
