- When you hear 'SP303' you tend to think about the compressor hidden inside the Vinyl Sim MFX, but did you know that this device also has 3 different sample grades? I don't see this spoken about much online. They're not ground-breaking in their sound, but its certainly a nice feature to have included.

if they're not talked about as much as the vinyl sim I imagine it's because that's a purely aesthetic feature while the sample rates are more often a matter of practicality; I doubt they're actually being overlooked in most cases because it's hard to imagine even being able to use this sampler without them, but they are maybe under discussed in an aesthetic context!
Interesting difference between the 303 and 404sx…
When you press reverse button in the middle of a sample playing back, the 303 will begin reversing from the point at which you pressed reverse. On the 404sx, the sample begins playing from the end of the sample no matter when you press reverse.

My fav feature is still MFX12 and time stretch straight up. It’s not vinyl sim, not lo-fi, not the isolator (also the best isolator to this day). I think nobody wants to come out and say it but, that’s THE best 3 band compressor ever made. Ask Vulfpeck about bankrupting their studio tryna reverse engineer it w madlib.
There is definitely a certain buttery quality about the MFX on the 303
The comp on the 303 ain't 3 band. Altho you've just given me an idea. Sample in a break and resample to 3 pads. Use the isolator and resample the 3, one high only, one mid only, one low only. Resample each with compressor to taste. Then resample the 3 pads back to one. Now THAT is 3 band compression! I wonder how it'll sound? I'm off to find out!

Thing is, those things used to be 60quid on second hand stores but vids like this make sure these are massively overpriced.
They've come down recently. Used to be £300+ all day. Now I see some selling for £200. Good for that price.
