I would love to have my very own Slig personal assistant. Imagine having a loyal sidekick to bring you drinks, chauffeur you around and shoot anyone you don't like. Unlike a Glukkon, though, I'd be nice to my Slig. I'd always tell him when he's doing a good job, and give him a present every year for his birthday. And if he wants a sweet hat to wear while he's on the job, then by the Odd he can take his pick from my very on personal collection.
One thing I like about Oddworld is the way each place is unique and has a different feel to it, particularly in the first two games. Slig Barracks and just one of the many examples of this and I hope this is prevalent in Oddworld: Soulstorm as well. :)
I know I'm late, but if you look at the Slig Barracks logo it represents the way they aim at their targets. They have eyes on the sides and not in front of their faces, forcing them to move their heads left or rights to actually aim down the sights of their gun. You can see it better in New'N'Tasty and Soulstorm :)
That's actually a retcon. They just put the Pilot helmet on the normal foot soldier sligs and it carried over to the rest of the games. The eyes being on the side of their heads makes them unable to shoot rifles because they have cow eyes. It's actually really dumb that a company made such an obvious mistake lol. They need the Cyclops-like eye to see in front of them, to make them predators. They have the eyes of prey 😂

I guess we can kiss goodbye to the unending epic tent filled landscapes but anyway i cant wait to see what they come up with!
"The Music suits the type of area that slig barracks is meant to be" I totally agree man but I also think that all of the music in Exoddus suits the areas perfectly bonewerkz especially :D
Oh, yeah, you're abosultely right, all the music in Exoddus goes perfectly with their areas. :) It's quite rare to get a game's soundtrack go so well with the level design I think, at least as good as this was.
The cut out part between the cross hair and the slig heads looking left and right also looks kinda like a gluckon's silhoutes, so it could be an image of a slig ADS at you, but could also be a Gluckon speaking into a micropone (the cross hair, as a number of the mic's look like that in the game) as his security detail watches out behind him
If it makes you feel better,I personally thought the two heads were actually one head of a scared oddworld critter and the crosshair was a slig aiming at it in a first person point of view
I always felt it was just the mask type of thing that they wear in the logo, but literally just like you said. Green. Poof. Brain melt. I was loosing my marbles. That was so cool! Thanks for showing it!
Looking at the Slig Barracks, I couldn't help but notice the high walls and numerous watchtowers, as well as the thousands of tents thrown over a teeming cesspit. It didn't strike my as an average base so much as a massive POW/concentration camp, which it may be, housing not only Slig recruits but thousands of imprisoned Mudokons, either captured in raids or sent there for disobedience. The Sligs likely use them for target practice, while the survivors are eventually transferred out to the most dangerous factories and mines to be worked to death.
Haha, yeah I was mentioning that I randomly edit things for no reason and just happened to have just done that one so thought I'd insert it briefly in as a joke. :P
I always loved Oddworld's nature temples and more ancient areas, but Slig Barracks was my favorite looking urban environments, along with stockyards and free fire zone in Oddysey. I remember there was a transition FMV sequence when transitioning in the Slig barracks that sweeped over the tents and you could see like the waste pipes reaching down into the underbelly below them. Was one of the coolest things I had seen in gaming.
As a kid (about 10yo when i first played) i always looked at the logo as some sad creature looking forward, head tilted upwards, i don't know how to explain it. Was like 5 years ago i realized it was two Sligs looking to the sides. Always was my favorite area to play, with the 3rd best theme right after the Brewery and Trials. Slig also being my favorite character, i loved playing as them and often quicksaved and messed around for good 5 minutes before continuing onwards. One funny thing i remember was i asked my mom to do certain parts for me as i played, because i was too scared, one example being, when you're in the Necrum mines, after leaving your ''squad'' behind as they're sick, and the Slogs start following you, i couldn't for the life of me let them down from the upper level to zap them lmao All i can say is, Oddysee and Exodus changed my life. I just wish there was more like the two, the atmosphere was insanely good, and how the music fits every level and situation perfectly. They were way ahead of their time.
As a kid I always loved the music and ambient versions of different tunes from Slig Barracks best! Where does the footage of the charging slig army at 30-34 seconds come from? Holy crap regarding the slig logo! How after all these years of repeatedly playing these games am I still only just noticing things!
Apologies for the late reply, sometimes TH-cam doesn't let me know I've got comments and I miss the occasional one. The slig army footage comes from either some early 2000's beta Munch's Oddysee or Hand Of Odd footage. I'm not sure which, I think I've heard it said to be from either. Actually, I'm pretty sure it's Hand Of Odd, now that I think of it. And yeah, it's amazing what you can miss when playing games. :) Just a few days ago I found out something about a game I used to play for YEARS that I didn't even know and I thought 'Wow, it's amazing, all this time later and I'm still finding new stuff out.'
What if Molluck will be in charge of Slig Barracks in Soulstorm ? I know it's weird, but we know there will be 4 Glukkons in Soulstorm, or should I say IMPORTANTS Glukkons :the Brewmaster in charge of Soulstorm Brewery, the one in charge of Comet Depot, an another in charge of Necrum Mines. But what about Molluck ? Maybe Lady Margaret will forgive him after his defeat in RuptureFarms and will become the "General" instead of Dripik ? What do you think ?
That's an interesting theory, especially considering we haven't really seen a 'General' Glukkon in Soulstorm yet. It's possible, but I think they're probably going to focus on Molluck being on trial and the consequences he faces due to losing Rupture Farms. We'll have to wait and see though. :)
@@pupbenny Thanks for your reply. I think Molluck can replace Dripik. Or perhaps he will be in charge of the new RuptureFarms. In the Soulstorm ARG, they said "RuptureFarms1029 will rise from the ashes. we will rebuild it bigger, better and more profitable than before. it will be the greatest, most efficient factory that Oddworld has ever seen. it will be a towering symbol of Glukkon strength that cannot be ignored. one terrorist will not deter us.". @@solidraiden17 That's a good point, you could be right and that'd be a really interesting way to do it. I bet they'd do some really nice visuals making a new and improved Rupture Farms with the intent of showing Glukkon superiority. I like the sound of that. :)
Oooooooooooooohhhhhh! Damn that's cool it does kind of look like both! I saw two heads at first but after looking again it can look like a Slig looking forward
I wonder if it might be rendered more as a slig factory in the new game, with Skillya producing new sliglets who promptly get sent to the barracks, wherein they get their natural good natures beaten out of them by the "education" the sligs are given. It would certainly fit the darker style Lanning seems to be going for, and it would be the most appropriate place for Skillya and sliglets to show up in I think. I also wonder if they might explore the weak immune systems of the sligs, which I've always figured was the reason they had such short lifespans of 20 years, whereas everyone else seems to live a human lifespan or so (If my belief that Oddworld years are at least twice as long as Earth years is correct that is.).
That's a good idea, I haven't heard anything about Skillya being in Soulstorm so it'd be a nice surprise for them to put her in it and it'd make complete sense, as you said, for Slig Barracks to be involved in that in some way. I hope they flesh out the Sligs more and that we learn more about them in Soulstorm.
