Great memories! Was at the home games against Scotland, Luxembourg and Bulgaria! Sadly I don’t remember much about the games itself other than the goals! Great atmosphere at the Bulgaria game though, I used to get tickets for the old North stand and then sneak into the East Stand at half time, stewards didn’t care back then! 3:14 I’d say Jack went bananas at Brady for this!
I’d forgotten what a tough group this was, we only tend to remember Bulgaria but that was a serious Belgium team and Scotland were more than decent too. Brilliant effort to win that group
13 years old thumbing home from school from ballybofey to lifford to watch the games great times never will be forgotten. We're all part of Jackie's army
Oh, I waited this video on my favorite channel - about the most unexpected and willing team of the later 80s and the early 90s. Kevin Sheedy, Ray Houghton, John Aldridge, Paul McGrath, Mick McCarthy, Ronnie Whelan, Andy Townsand, Patrick Bonner....
Great team of the 80s and early 90s. You forgot to mention Liam Brady, Mark Lawrenson, John Sheridan, Frank Stapleton, David O'Leary, Chris Hughton, Kevin Moran, Tony Galvin and Tony Cascarino
I was at that game in the Heysel stadium against Belgium in 1986. Jack Charlton’s first competitive game as Ireland manager. Tremendous result. I seem to remember a lot of people from Blessington among the Irish supporters that night.
Great memories indeed…. Managed to get to all 8 qualifying games in our first successful campaign …. Had planned to do all the home games and Belgium Scotland and Luxembourg away when the draw was made but got off the train at Connolly station after being in Glasgow via Belfast for the Scotland game and we all sang our way down Talbot st and I thought there n then F*** it …. I’m going to Sofia for the Bulgaria game 8 weeks later…. Could be history in the making here …. 2 flights made it to Sofia and a few from mainland Europe…. About 300 fans in total …. Unforgettable times not to mention the 2 weeks in Germany… went to the Final in Munich
