Hindsight 101 yes! Bought it yesterday and looked at the manual and thought “no way”. Googled vids, watched yours and then thought “seems straightforward”. I was worried about lifting it up by myself but it was not as heavy as I thought.
Great video. You are an excellent teacher. I am handy, but had injured myself installing my previous opener. Only a 3 week wait for a professional convinced me to endeavor it once again. There was no TH-cam in 2001 during my last install, I was overjoyed to find your clear and concise video series. A leisurely install review the video as I went resulted no issues. Homelink in my older Toyota is going to be one for sure.
Man! I wish you could demonstrate every how to video. That is extremely descriptive and you show the pieces you are describing by turning them to show the piece and how to connect. Every video I have seen is either someone who is talking from across the room or someone from another country that is difficult to understand. Not just language but low voice volume. Awesome!!
There are a lot of Chamberlain installation videos out there but yours is absolutely the best. You give a level of detail that few others can match. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for this video. Replaced my 22 yr old Craftsman today and only needed the manual at the end for wiring the sensors in unit, button near door and adjusting up and down.
I just wanted to say your a video on the cell phones getting SIM cards out help me out a lot the other day and you are a modern genius my friend keep it up
I'm glad you included how to adjust the trolley travel from 14:53-15:30 Other videos didn't include this. My trolley wasn't anywhere near the top of it's limits when I got the whole thing assembled and I worried that I'd done something wrong. Thanks so much!
Thank you for this! I installed the same model. Your instructions are not only infinitely better than the paper instructions but WAY better than any video on TH-cam.
WOW!! I am installing one right now. I wish I had seen this video before I started. This video is sooo much help. All the things I had to do over again are addressed in this video. this video is sooo helpful and Chamberlain's instructions are WORTHLESS!!
Thank you very much. Great video. Very well done. I was able to install my b1381 opener by watching your video. I didn’t even try using the manual after watching your video. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much for posting this! Very well done! As others have said, you did such a fantastic job of showing each part and component as you went through the assembly and provided great advice and tips along the way. This is vastly better than trying to follow printed instructions and your presentation is excellent!
my wife wants me to put up the same model # next spring but i didn't know if i wanted to do this myself but this is giving me confidence i can do this and save me money.
Derrick, I just bought you a cup of coffee on your link. I forget to sign it. But here is my comment that I wanted to tell you...I'm about to install a new Chamberlain Garage Door Opener and your video was very thorough and greatly appreciated. Very well thought out too
Thank you fine sir. Your video was perfect. Installed it by myself in about 4 hours with troubleshooting the error I was getting. Door was closing to tight and opening back up.

The instructions that came with my opener almost completely omitted the important task of how to connect and tension the belt. If it hadn't been for this video, my installation would have been a lot more difficult. Thank you.
Well Derrick, you make it sound easy or at least not overwhelming. I will try it out since my existing garage door is on its last leg. Thanks for your videos. I watched both to get an idea. Thanks
I hope Chamberlain has paid you a consulting fee for creating this video. Their documentation is pathetic and this saved a lot of frustration... thank you!
I sent you a tip well deserved I felt like I did everything 100% right and I struggled for two to three days with my garage opener your point of adjusting the down set and upset made a difference thank you
Derrick - Your video is awesome! Helps me tremendously with the installation of the garage opener. Chamerlain's instructions and video is no match for your videos. Thanks again and keep up with the great work. +++++++
Wow man, i thought this was a Chamberlain video. Thanks for the hard work you put into this, I'm getting two of these units next week (two car garage.)
I installed a similar unit. It was a huge pain. The standard unit works for garage doors up to 7 ft. If your garage door is taller than that you need to purchase an extension accessory to make a longer track. It does not come with the parts needed to mount to the ceiling of the garage, so be sure to pick up some perforated angle iron for that part.
Very nicely made video! I installed a Genie in my garage today, it was very similar to this, but the belt was way easier to install as the threaded ends were pre-assembled.
Thank you so much. I’m not very good at following instructions and the Manuel was not particularly well done or easy to understand. You made the job so much easier for me and I appreciate it.
Homerun install thanks to this video! My wall controller is different though, and WiFi wouldn't connect, will try it again tomorrow with a fresh slate. Thank you again for all your help!
2 QUICK THINGS AND A MAJOR SHOUT-OUT! QUICK THINGS FIRST: 1. If you watch this INCREDIBLE video and decide to install the garage door opener afterwards, please also watch part 2 beforehand and READ THE COMMENTS made by Blondie SL regarding installation of the battery pack (which Derrick does in part 1 at 15:36). These comments are near the bottom of the comments section in the part 2 video. I followed Blondie SL's advice and DID NOT INSTALL the battery pack when Derrick does in part 1. Instead, I waited until after I installed and programmed everything (garage door opener, numeric keypad, door keypad, and MY IQ app) before installing the battery pack. 2. At 5:26 of this video (part 1), Derrick transitions from step 3 to step 4 (see owner' s manual), but he forgets to do "substep" 3 of step 4 (winding the belt around the socket). At 6:34 he acknowledges that he skipped doing that, and he reminds viewers that they must, indeed, wrap the belt around the socket before completing substeps 4, 5, and 6 of step 4, and then beginning step 5. My advice: when it comes to step 4, read the owner' s manual before/at same time you watch video and don't forget to wind the belt around the socket! For all it's worth, I brought my laptop into the garage and mostly watched the video during installation process, only referring to owner's manual when I need clarification or didn't quite understand something. MAJOR SHOUT OUT! This video series is the very best how-to-video I've ever seen on TH-cam. Major props to Derrick and any/all who helped him. I'm 95% certain that I couldn't have installed my garage door opener if I hadn't watched them. These videos are THAT GOOD, people! Thank you, Derrick, for taking the time and energy to make them. You have enabled me to enjoyably and successfully do something for myself and my family. Thank you, bro!
You are VERY welcome, Derrick! Also, in #2 comment I mistakenly referred to the sprocket as a “socket.” Oops, my bad. 😬Wind the belt around the SPROCKET, not sprocket!
I know I'm just adding to the pile here, but I wanted to say THANK YOU for making this video, it was immensely helpful and very thorough. Kudos to you good sir! :)
Thank you, I found your instructions easy to follow. Personally I learn better by watching a video than reading, my only suggestion would have been to add the door adjustment instructions in the video as these are critical
Thank for the comment. It was a very long and hot day and I didn’t have the energy to re-record it. But I may do a follow up bc you are right it is important
Tech came and noticed right away that my door was sticking to the weather seal on the outside of the door. I cleaned the tacky residue off and the initial start problem was solved. I only had one spring on a double door and it was 9 years old so I had him replace and add an additional spring. He lubricated and tightened the hinge bolts but the door is still really noisy. I had already replaced the rollers to nylon. I may be thinking about insulated doors. Thanks for the help.
Great video - brief and to the point. Will be installing my Chamberlain 510 belt drive unit this weekend - this was helpfull to prep me for the install. Thx for posting !!!
Just discovered your video after taking four hours to install my Chamberlain B1381. This is the longest time its ever taken me to install a garage door opener. All my friends call me to install their openers (tops....two hours for an install). The biggest item was installing the belt with that spring loaded nut. It's the one item you glossed over in the beginning. The 43 pages of instructions, in my opinion, did not explain the spring nut well. What I discovered was, after removing the long screw with the spring, unscrew the spring from the long screw. Make sure the belt is attached at the other end to the sled assembly and that the belt is not twisted and is threaded around the sprocket. Put the flat sided screw through the sled assembly hole. Pull the belt toward the screw and put the link nut through both ends and secure with the locking link. If you choose to connect the screw with the belt without having everything in place, it's possible to connect the ends backwards. Once the locking link is in place, Slide the long screw through the hole and reattach the spring nut. If you continue to hand tighten the spring nut, it will automatically engage and you won't have to use a wrench (not a set of pliers) and a screwdriver to activate the spring. A suggestion: Even though the instructions indicate to use pliers.....never use them. Use the correct wrench size or an adjustable wrench or a socket set. Pliers can leave a nut mangled. Pliers are very destructed. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for the video details, I was able to review yours with my installation and found that I missed the spring/nut release step so I just did that about few minutes ago, all good! Sprint/nut release's just required little bit of force and it would pop out!
I have a Facebook group if you can post a picture there I might be able to help. Also try 2 flathead screw drivers to separate the locking piece. m.facebook.com/?_rdr#!/groups/236612123674028?ref=bookmarks
Thanks so much for taking the time to put this video guide together. Your insight and instruction gave me the confidence to go ahead and install a new replacement Chamberlain B4545 garage door opener today. I ended up replacing all of the hardware except for the door sensors. I kept the existing ones in place and put the new ones away for spares.
You are awesome dude!!! So far the most effective video ever. I'm about to set mine up. I watched a few videos but yours is the best and the simplest one. I hope Chamberlain sponsor you.
Hindsight 101 same as yours I believe but led lights instead of bulbs. I opened the box and looked at the manual and was discouraged. Went on TH-cam and found your channel and got it up running in no time :) again big thanks!
Outstanding video, I wish I had seen this before I had started my installation. The Chamberlain Manual is leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. For one, the print is so small I need magnification to even read it comfortably. I don't see anything about the flat side of the spring trolley nut. I got an "excessive opening force code 4-2 see your owners manual" but cannot find comment about it anywhere.
Yep, makes racket when initially starts to lift-not after-old lift also- reason replaced-old lift entire travel-doesn’t when raised manually-don’t know strength of springs
@@Hindsight101 The spring strength would make good sense, I believe that would need to be left to someone with experience, I have watched winding springs but would net feel comfortable trying it- I will check on the spring strength--thank you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, It sure helped me alot. These belt drives are super quiet compared to the screw drive I used to have.
Great video. I used this to install my opener fresh on my new home. However when opening and closing, my rails seem to bend upward mid-opening/closing. Ive adjusted the door arm and still bends.
Nice video - I would recommend investing in some combination wrenches or even a couple adjustable crescent wrenches vs. using pliers to secure nuts and bolts - you will thank yourself later when you have to take it apart
Great video. I give you 9 out of 10 stars because of how informative your video is. I deducted one star because I didn't like how you mounted the door opener. The mounting braces are typically supposed to be running in a vertical position with cross bracing if needed. I noticed the opener tweaked a slight bit at one point in the video but I guess if it works for you then that's what matters.
Great video! thanks for explaining this process so clearly Quick question: i have an existing garage door opener (10 years old). Can i use the existing side sensor and wiring on the new Chamberlin unit?
@@Hindsight101 I successfully used the old side sensor wiring on the new unit. Everything works great with way less hassle than i expected because of your guidance. thanks again for an excellent video. i can't think of a better home improvement instructional video. great work!
Thanks for sharing. Have you measured voltage and resistance on the sensor wires? You mentioned unit won't work without sensors hooked up but if one doesn't need them you should be able to fool the unit with resistor. Will find out more when I go through install soon.
Thank you so much. Very informative. I have a question for you or anyone who knows. Do I need to replace the rails if I already have a belt drive system (Liftmaster). I haven’t purchased a new unit yet, so I can’t do a comparison to see if there are any key differences. Thanks again. I am going to subscribe and watch part two. 👊☮️

Hindsight 101 same as yours I believe but led lights instead of bulbs. I opened the box and looked at the manual and was discouraged. Went on TH-cam and found your channel and got it up running in no time :) again big thanks!
Derrick great video for I am going to have to replace my mom's garage door opener soon! Peace
Thanks for the comment
Fantastic job...keep up your videos...thank you.
Thank you I appreciate it
Thank you very much for your time and effort! This made my install so much easier! You Rock!
Thank you you're welcome
This video was a huge help . . . thank you!
You are welcome
Outstanding video, I wish I had seen this before I had started my installation. The Chamberlain Manual is leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. For one, the print is so small I need magnification to even read it comfortably. I don't see anything about the flat side of the spring trolley nut. I got an "excessive opening force code 4-2 see your owners manual" but cannot find comment about it anywhere.
Are you getting that code when you try to set the opening close limits?
Also are your springs strong enough to open the garage door?
Yep, makes racket when initially starts to lift-not after-old lift also- reason replaced-old lift entire travel-doesn’t when raised manually-don’t know strength of springs
@@Hindsight101 The spring strength would make good sense, I believe that would need to be left to someone with experience, I have watched winding springs but would net feel comfortable trying it- I will check on the spring strength--thank you.
Jack Glazner no problem hope it works out. Let me know
Excellent video!... very well explained!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, It sure helped me alot. These belt drives are super quiet compared to the screw drive I used to have.
Thank you. Interesting I wonder how the sound of a belt drive compared to screw drive
@@Hindsight101 The belt drives were specifically introduced as quieter, although more expensive.
Thanks
Very informative, clear and precise. Thank you
Thank you glad it helped
Great video. I used this to install my opener fresh on my new home. However when opening and closing, my rails seem to bend upward mid-opening/closing. Ive adjusted the door arm and still bends.
What part are you referring to when you say rails?
Nice video - I would recommend investing in some combination wrenches or even a couple adjustable crescent wrenches vs. using pliers to secure nuts and bolts - you will thank yourself later when you have to take it apart
Thanks for the advise. I have them but I was too lazy to get them
@@Hindsight101 The correct response should have been "In hindsight..." LOL
Lol you got me there
Great video.
Thank you for the feedback
Good video. I had to buy a new opener just this morning.
Thank you
Great video! thanks for explaining this process so clearly
Quick question: i have an existing garage door opener (10 years old). Can i use the existing side sensor and wiring on the new Chamberlin unit?
I would say you just have to test it out. It should work but there is always some odd chance it won’t.
It’s a safety feature but I’m should if someone tries hard enough they could bypass it
I just did this today, wish I saw this first. But it was easy. Still messing with the phone app
Have you seen my video going over the app How to install a Chamberlain Garage Door Opener - PART 2 Wifi Setup th-cam.com/video/14C1-ApeFDQ/w-d-xo.html
I personally do not know but they are basically the same company so it probably should work
Very nice video. One of the best
Thank you
Can you make an instructional video on how to clean a bedroom so I can show my daughters?
Lol I probably should too, to teach my daughter
@@Hindsight101 thanks for vid... LiftMaster died and just picked up the Chamberlain 1 1/4hp wifi belt with back battery from lowes.. open box clearance $134 from a cancelled install.
That’s a nice deal I think I paid $250 for mine
