I’ve had success in the past using the repair spurs, but the fences on both sides of my garden use the post spikes which have allowed me to fairly easily remove the old post & fit new 😁.

Nice job with the recip saw and angle grinder. it didn't occur to me to use the "heavy tools" to quickly remove rusty nails etc. One extra thing I did though was add rocks beneath the post to allow drainage of moisture and cap the top with plastic to prevent ingress. We'll see in future whether it was worth it!

Is it possible to put a list of tools and type of concrete used? My husband is unwell and I need to do it can’t afford to pay anyone so will need to do myself

Alécio- Florianópolis- Santa Catarina- Brazil- Good morning Mark, congratulations on the garden, it is beautiful, everyone should have these tools, right? This month I bought my reciprocating saw and my hammer. Big hug

In my experiences you want (as best possible) to not make a sort of "bowl" hole ,you want the hole to be as close fitting to the actual post as possible,a few inch gap all around... Because making a "bowl" type hole can highly increase the chance of the post eventually leaning one way or the other & a more snug fitting hole helps to avoid that from happening 👀👍

I agree with you 100% The hole was bigger in this case as I wanted to dig out all of the old concrete, which for better or worse created a bigger hole.
      Thanks for your comment.

@@KAPWoodworkandbuilding ahhh I did think you probably didn't have much choice on this occasion good sir 👍 problem is most people ( me included) don't readily have the skinny width type spades made purposely for doing post holes so the hole starts big already 😱 , personally I've always used a garden trowel & sturdy stick 🏒 👀 never fails me 👍 & cheap to replace 🤔🤣 & the hole thing imo is really only best when dealing with concrete posts etc, but little fences no drama whatever you do as long as you have some sort of hole going on&postcrete or similar,as you no doubt know already 👍👍😎🌎
