Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on TH-cam!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

“Gly”: Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a fun holiday spending time with family and friends as I did. 2022 is going to be full of adventure and I can’t wait to get started. Take care!
Happy New Year Gly! I really look forward to all the adventures that 2022 will bring 😁. Thanks for taking us along for the experience
Man this makes me wish I lived west.
Hello Gly!! Until old Bob has an attached parachute, AVOID THEM CLIFFS!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR and stay safe. Always enjoying your videos!! Thank you!!
Happy New Year !!!
Beautiful Quartz vein in Limestone. Thanks for another cool video. Thank you, for respecting the wildlife 🙏
Arizona greatest state in the union!!! I've been all over the world in the Navy and lived in a bunch of states but I always come back home to Arizona because it's just the best!!!
The bats I’m not afraid but if I were there I’d be running for the out at the first sign of spiders. They totally creep me out ♥️♥️♥️
Especially since those brown recluse can bite you and you can lose a arm!!!
My girlfriend had a huge hole in her side!!!
Your video editing with music and drone was quite excellent on this episode!
Ooo!! Labradorite, banded fluorite, and fire agates!!! Also turquoise and moonstone. Shopping list complete😉
Good to see you out and about! Stay healthy!
Happy New Years All
As a kid I wanted to be a geologist. I was and still am a rock hound. Here's a small poem I wrote as a kid.
A rock is like a magic lock
You break the rock, to open the lock, and find a key to history.
Happy New Year!
Guanosickles! I'll take the ice ones we have here in Nevada. Happy New Year! Randy
“Gly”: Yeah, you definitely wouldn’t want to lick one of these! They’ll give you prune face!
Pyratized fossils, gold, silver copper vein minerals, and of course flourite, happy new year GLY!!
Galena, solid heavy pure!
Great to see you back out exploring again Gly!
Your attitude about respecting the mine, nature, and history is very admirable. I really like your channel for that along with your knowledge of the mines and geology. I really appreciate the effort you put into creative high quality content and using good video equipment.
Happy New Year!! Let another year of great adventures await us!
Happy New Year Gly, Mr. M and Randy, can't wait to see you all together again this Summer.
Gly, You always knock it out of the park. Happy New Year buddy.
“Gly”: Thank you!
Love Quartzite, went there all the time when I live in AZ, I lived over in Parker for 5 years, I kind of miss it since I moved back to Colorado. Maybe check out some raw AZ opals or and Fire Opals? those were always my favorite... lol
I miss the river life!
At least the miners made good homes for the bats.🦇 Happy New Year!🎉🎊
Love spending my Saturday mornings watching Gly Coolness.
My two favorite rocks, the love stone, and Leafe rite! NO more ROCKS Lucy! but Ricky! "The long trailer". thank you stay safe
This christmas my grandpa was celebrating with us in our mountain cottage. It was his first time being there since grandma died last year. At some point I wanted to go outside to hang with some other family members, and I knew he wouldn't want to go outside, so I booted up TH-cam on our SmartTV and put on an episode of Abandoned and Forgotten places, which he really enjoyed. I spent a couple hours outside and apparently there was an autoplay feature on the TV which I wasn't aware about, because it was playing a different episode when I got back inside. Not only that, but my dad, uncle and my sister's husband were also watching eagerly. So we watched for at least three more episodes, and everyone enjoyed it. This could easily be a TV series. Keep up the good work!
Happy New Year Gly, spiders are OK way better than rats
🎉🎉🥂 HAPPY NEW YEAR GLY AND ALL YOUR VIEWERS 🎉🎉🥂😘💖
Enjoying the messages on the bucket lid 😂
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! I like to see agates from different places. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
I'm amazed at how the video production looks like a whole crew shot it...Between the auto-follow drone shots, panning camera in the jeep and all of your cameras, you really don't even miss having other people to shoot video. Impressive! Also impressive is your shot editing while keeping the same dialogue going. You don't even miss the two old coots who bailed on ya! j/k. :P
Happy New Year to everyone! How fun is it to start the new year with a new video! Fingers crossed for a better year!
wow, you are a man's man. I've seen other men on their youtube channels scream and run from one tiny bat, but you just stood there educating us among a few hundred of them without breaking a sweat. Bravo.
“Gly”: I like bats, their cute! (Yeah, that was the manly side of me getting in touch with the cute and cuddly side) 😉 lol
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Mines get a bad rap for the environmental damage they cause, sometimes for good reasons; but one thing I've noticed in these journeys you've taken us on is the amount of bat habitat that's been created is immense. With bats losing so much of it in other places, it's good to see that the miners have made them some great homes. (It's great to sit here at my kitchen table and not smell a thing. Keep up the good work, I enjoy the hell out of your channel.)
Came here for the artifacts and mines, stayed for the geology knowledge
Hey, Gly! Thanks for everything. I enjoy these scouting expeditions just as much as the big ones. I'm glad that you didn't focus in on the spiders! God bless you.
That was fantastic. Really good photography/videography Beautiful area thanks
Happy New Year! Loved all those cute (very stinky) little bats! I'm glad you respect their home and are such a good guest. :D Loving the continual geology lesson, as well. You do make me feel like I'm riding along, learning stuff as we go. I am totally spoiled for any other mine exploration channel. Yay for stopey goodness!
I used to go to the traveling International Gem and Jewelry show and browse the minerals. I miss those since the pandemic started. That quartz sample you showed us today was lovely. Me, I'm an azurite and chrysocolla fan.
🌞 Glad you're in AZ 🌵 Wonderful lessons Gly. Look for rocks that have healing powers according to the Indians, There really are such things! Happy New Year to you too.
I really enjoy watching adventures with you and old Bob.
The water hits Mr. Creosote and he smells bad. Nice modern looking mine; it looks like they didn't find much in gold bearing ore. Happy New Year to all also.
why is this so utterly fascinating? love your vids man, happy new year to everyone!!
“Gly”: Thank you!
That would be so cool!! I've only every seen one live bat in an abandoned mine. But I've only explored a couple small ones so I guess I just need to go visit some big ones!
Miners, always following that yellow brick road. LoL, Or the silver one. May we all have a Happy New Year!
Thank you, "Gly". Take care of yourself.
Perhaps look for any garnets in that granite/mica schist area. Even examples of other geological items significant to the area. I am sure those may be of interest to folks on your eBay as well. I am not suggesting anything against the law as some areas may prohibit any removal. I really do enjoy these videos, to see things that are a part of historical/cultural value. The respect and care that you show when in and out of the mines is admirable. Thank you for the adventures and Happy New Year!
“Gly”: Thank you very much!
Got that Hollywood producer beard going on!
Happy New Year, Gly! The rock colors look beautiful with your camera settings.
“Gly”: Thanks!
A rock in the image of the Mine Messiah Gly! :D Thanks for the great video again.
Good morning and Happy New Year everyone 🥳🥂 From Arizona 😎🌵
Hi from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures
AFP, new watcher (via a YT recommendation) and I am really happy to see you're so respectful of everything. I'll be watching a lot more. Also impressed by your safety protocols (for a solo explorer).
The scenery alone knocked it out of the park for me. Thanks again Gly
Happy New Year. That mine was the stuff of nightmares. Thanks for sharing the wide open hills and rocky landscapes of Arizona.
Finally, almost a years worth of videos watched in two weeks. Definitely like how you have built up your channel Gly
Happy new years gly and friends. Awesome mines
Same to you and all your friends. Along with your followers. HAPPY NEW YEAR
Well darn, my whole driveway is Leaverite, but I sometimes find little pieces that aren't.. When I gather enough of them, I'll make a mosaic or some such. Maybe it'll be art. Maybe it won't. Enjoyed the explore. Thanks!
Sounds like a chipmunk working out. lol "Happy New Year!"
Thank you Gly, have a great week!
Cool song, “Dontcha Wanna”, Gabriel Kelly 👏
I think I have seen enough of those mine explorings now. And now I give my abonnement back. The regular unseen spiders and bats will like.
My God, it is so beautiful there!
we need some of that old dirty dusty gly coolness exploring 100's of feet of stairs, stoops, stopes, and stops..but i trust that u have some serious mines with relics from many moons back in the queue eventually.
“Gly”: I have a few good ones on the menu!
Have a great 2022 Gly!
Happy new years Gly. Always love going along with ya on these great adventures. Let us know when you come across some squirrellite. Those are the reddish colored rocks that my cousins sit on when you drive by us. Ok, I made you smile.
(Irish squirrel)
What a fabulous way to start a Saturday. Happy New Year!
Happy new year, Gly! The bucket billboard is a great idea. It is your explaining everything that makes your channel preeminent. Old Bob looks good with the lift. Was it a body lift or a suspension lift?
“Gly”: It’s a 2” Rock Krawler suspension lift. 👍
i was wondering if anyone else noticed the bucket notes
@@mrfordfairmont yep, yet another great addition. Have always loved the duck and the hula girl.
It goes to prove that, just because conditions are perfect for gold and silver doesn't mean those minerals are present in a particular area. Gold is where you find it! Great video, Gly! I'm amazed at how far you've come in your hiking ability from that first video two years ago ...
“Gly”: Thanks Chris!
All the bats remind me of a story from a weekend field class I took in the early 80s in Butte, MT. Eager student ran up to the professor, a legend at the school, and asked what he had found - he couldn’t identify. He lists all the things he had done, and the prof asks “did you taste it”? The kid starts licking it. The professor says “it’s a piece of bat guano”. Obviously it was not fresh, but still funny at the time. And anyone reading this from Mt Tech probably knows exactly who that legend was.
Chalcopyrite intermixed with some Copper minerals or carbonates like Malchite or Azurite. Might be possible in Arizona. I’m not familiar with geology there.
HAPPY NEW YEAR GLY. I'm sure looking forward to this year, the suspence is a 10. Stay safe and healthy.
Happy new year Gly! All the best for many new adventures in 2022!
Amazing camera! thank you for your videos!
Amethyst. Good Video Gly!!! Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to Gly , Randy, and Mr. M !!!; )
Nice day outside exploring Gly
Beautiful area great views its a bit like central Australia .
Happy New Year 🙂
Pete Australia 🇦🇺
Happy NY.. great show
13:25 bat flies right past the camera as you go closer to the quartz
“Gly”: Yeah, he was showing off his barrel roll maneuver.
Those first 5 minutes, especially the graphic at 4:22, helped me visualize so well what the miners miners were looking for and the shape of the mine!
Thank you, your videos are the best as always! Love the geology too. Happy new year & stay safe out there!
Edit: Do you have any idea why the miners would have left so much of that quartz vein in the mine?
Guano cicles. The newly named abandoned mine explorers treat! LOL.
Native copper or silver.
I'm jealous that you get to spend so much time around the rocks. Here we have mostly mud and dull sedimentary rocks. If I was out there I would spends weeks hunting the waste rock piles. :) I collect mostly roughs, anything from rutilated quartz to malachite/azurite to green or watermelon tourmaline to green/white/clear moss agate, to geodes, to chrome diopside.
"Happy new year everybody i hope you all have an amazing 2022", Gly, i wasn't going to have a new years resolution this year but for some reason i had compulsion to watch all the videos in 4k, there's no way you could get me to go into a spider infested mine just watching it was a crindgefest and a happy new year to you Gly.
I would have been doing the "oogie dance" at the sight of all those spiders! I have a small piece of mica schist I found here in Maine. I think that would be a good one.
Happy New Year, Gly!
Hey, I love all beautiful crystals and also copper malachite azurite, etc.. Big square chunky fluorite crystals are amazing. There is a mine another TH-camr goes to with foot long double terminated quartz crystals in the US.
Hi Gly, I noticed that your not wearing safety glasses! I have worked in quite a few UNDG Mines, and there is quite often wire - fencing type wire, hanging from the 'backs'! Maybe not in those old mines though. Saved my eye's many times. I suggest you wear safely glasses 👍. I like your helmet👍, especially without those spiders haha🙂.
Happy New years Gly! When your in Rock & Gem Show see if you can find a good Jasper Stone with deepish red on it.
Great way to start the new year! Gly, Happy New Year from NB Canada! 🍻
Happy New Year! Of the many mine exploration videos I watch your filming and narration is the best. Thanks for doing this. Malachite?
“Gly”: Thank you very much!
I’d pay any money to hear Christian Bale in an angry husky whisper say “who are you and how did you find me”… that would break TH-cam
Happy New Year Gly!🎆🎇✨ thanks for the excursions!
Great video to start the new year! Thanks for sharing! See you at the rock show in February 😄
merry christmas happy new year mate glad to see u back
Happy New Year Gly and everyone.
I'm proud of you for digging this out!
Happy New Year love from England take care and stay safe 👍 ❤
Colors were very pretty, love that you always tell us what they are
Happy New Year everyone and gly where I live in Eastern Washington State you can't throw a stick without hitting petrified wood how about trying to find some petrified wood
Nice Red Cactus on the backside of that Hill
People put in a great deal of work on that vein!
Happy New year !!! This place is cool .🤗
Hey there, Glad you're back and doing well. I've been keeping up w/all your adventures and just wish I was there to enjoy the experience first hand as well. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy the discussions on the minerals and the geography of it all. I really enjoy the geology. Keep it coming!!
Happy New year Gly, Mr M and Randy. X
Love watching your videos. Can you talk more about the types of rocks. I see a lot of colors you pass.. and if possible it would be great to hear there names more.
Happy new year to you too Gly🍻
I will be in Quartzite at the show, hope to see you there!
Thanks You're #1 for mine Exploration & Very Fearless. I hope the Discovery Channel tells the History Channel about your Channel ! Excellent Editing Above the Rest. Happy New Year.
“Gly”: Thank you very much!
Happy new year Gly,from Australia
Happy new year, Gly! and have a safe and healthy 2022
