I hope this video helps some of you who are having a hard time deciding what sort of art education you should pursue, if you want to pursue art education! I have been to both a public general education university and a private / for profit art school, so hopefully my advice is able to give you some insight and perspective when making your decision! Is art school worth it? Should you go to art school? These are all questions you have to ask yourself, so hopefully my art school experience can help! Schools like Calarts and RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) can be great, but may not offer what you are looking for, and a public university may be a better fit, or vice versa!
The schools I went to were:
    CSU - Colorado State University
RMCAD - Rocky Mountain College of Arts and Design

Really don’t know what I want to do. I make good grades in classes and I feel like all the hours I spent studying to maintain As in my courses will go to waste if I apply to art schools or try to get an education in art. At the same time, I can’t find any occupation I could see myself being happy in apart from being an artist...

+Minty Bliss good grades are important for art school as well! Sounds like a general University might be a good bet for you as if you change your mind you can easily change your major, something else I should have mentioned!

For the stability problem, Art is tricky to pursue, but that is why I'll have 2 jobs. I'll do art as one, but if I can't think of something to draw, I'll go write some books, which I also like to do. I'll also have TH-cam to advertise my stuff if it is still around when I grow up!!

If art is something that you really really want to do because makes you happy and you can’t think in anything else please DO IT, i spent the last 3 years denied what I really wanted to do with my life, I spent five months studying psychology and even I get excellent grades it wasn’t for me, then I was studying audiovisual arts (cinema) and I hate it, wasn’t the kind of art I wanna to do. Imagine living that confusion and bullshit situation with my parents and with myself and in the same time I spend hours and COMPLETE DAYS painting and making art, that was the moment I knew that I want to do this for the rest of my life no matter if I have success or not, I live so many years worried about money and safe jobs and I didn’t see the truth until 5 months ago and next year I’m gonna start art school in two colleges, one to study History Of Art and the other one just plastic arts wich means all kind of expression of art in the world ❤️❤️❤️❤️ follow your dreams and your heart💕💕💕💕 love you Alice✌🏻

Thanks for posting this! It was interesting to hear about your experiences in two sides of college. I wanted to comment on something you said about wanting to look good on your resume with an impressive college: this is something that I have never needed in the animation industry specifically. Nobody ever asks where I went to school. So if someone is looking to work in a trade field like animation, film, etc, then it won't carry much if any clout.
In those fields (at least in my experience having worked at three studios now) it's the portfolio and reel that gets you the job. I've known high schoolers who got jobs in animation based on their art alone. It can happen!

As someone who just graduated from a dedicated art school, you hit a lot of good points, alice! I do have one to add though!
    - Look up reviews from or talk to students of that particular school, for the dedicated art schools. I personally had some issues with the teaching style from mine (computer animation degree btw). For me, it seemed like I wasn't getting my information from the teachers, but rather from the internet itself. We would be given an assignment, and left with tutorials made sometimes by instructors, sometimes other people non affiliated with the college. It just felt like the teachers didn't have any time to keep up with their students. Had I known how this particular college operated, I would have gone to a different one where things were more hands on.

I absolutely love art! But as you said, there isn’t much stability in that area. I think I would want to have a major in something art related. I was also thinking about having a major in engineering. I consider myself good at Math and engineers earn a lot of money. There are also a lot more jobs in engineering. I would then minor in art or just leave it as a hobby. I am only a freshman in high school right now and I know I still have 4 years to decide. I just don’t know what to do!!

It's weird to me that in other countries the competition to get into a privat school is bigger than for public school. You're literally paying a big amout of money to get taught. In Germany everyone wants to go to the public ones because they have a better reputation, cost a lot less and are just as focused on art. It's actually easier to get into a private school because they take in more students and you're *paying* to be there.
Funny how the concept is all switched up.

    • @HulloAlice
      @HulloAlice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's a decent school, but you'll get out of it what you put into it. It's a for profit school. If you want to coast by, you can. There are plenty of people who graduated from that school who do not have the skills to be a professional artist, and they still passed and graduated just fine. If you push yourself, if you challenge yourself, and if you're willing to put in work, you'll get out of it what you put in - the classes are good, the online learning system is intuitive and easy, and I've had great experiences with a lot of the professors there, especially in the animation and video game department. I'm not going to pretend it will push you as much as a place like Pratt, Calarts, or SCAD but I would absolutely recommend it over a place like the Art Institutes. I know some people did have quite a few issues with financial aid, I personally didn't have any problems. I'd rate it a "semi-decent school," - not the best, but not the worst.

Hello! I know this video is an older one, but I’m currently attending RMCAD and I’m very insecure about my decision based on all the bad reviews I’ve read. I know this is a highly big request, but could you explain in a video or a comment as to what you truly think of RMCAD?

about to graduate from public university with a bachelor of arts in studio art with a minor in marketing and certificate in advertising. I don't know if you've answer this question, but what has your experience been with gaining two bachelor's degrees, like how was the process of getting into another school with classes being transferred over, were you able to complete your degree faster because of classes you did already?

Does anyone know what jobs u can get with Fine Art?
Kinda confused, I'm currently doing Fine Art GCSE, but I'm not sure what jobs you can get... There are so many artists and there really isn't any money in it, so I hv no idea what to do???

As a socialist I'm against privatization. This was really helpful Alice I'm gonna stick with public schools cus I'm already in debt for the rest of my life. Its not right to restrict all those resources to people who can afford it.
