      +Sara Gad I had all my key points on my computer so I didn't forget anything. That's why I keep looking down! It was irritating me sooo much during editing. I need to find a better solution so I'm not looking off screen so much! I hope its not too bothersome!

    I think you brought up some great points in this video, but one thing I'd like to draw attention to, in a positive way, is the significance of the sentence "I'm bad today!"
    I think that it's really important to be able to honestly look at yourself and acknowledge that not everything you do is perfect or brilliant, BUT, the most important word in that sentence is "today." Some days are just off days, and the most important thing to remember on those days is that it's temporary. Tomorrow is a new day, and tomorrow you could do something amazing. :)
    Thanks for the inspiring video! :)

    • @HulloAlice
      @HulloAlice  7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      hahaha I was having a really hard time talking in coherent sentences while I was filming it and that's why that blooper is in there xD But I agree with you completely! It applies to art so much, it's OK to have a bad day or have a day where you just can't draw. Get out that bad art so you can make better art! :)

    Shoulder troubles.... we are in the same boat. They look so simple, but can be surprisingly difficult. One thing I've been trying out is I have a guide for where I want the spine. On that I apply an oval for the rib cage, then use a triangle to accommodate the angle of how I want the body to be positioned. I use a rule that the width of the shoulders should represent an equal lateral triangle connecting both shoulders up touching the top sides of the skull, and meeting at a point above the skull. Angle of will throw off this perspective, but it seems to work about 60% of the time. I don't always draw the guide lines, but it is slowly teaching me an outcome I like in my art. 3/4 view is the hardest, but I make an angled line for shoulders and then one for hips angling the opposite way. Not sure how clear this instruction is, but that is what seems to be helping me.

    I'm 11 and welll...I draw pretty well but I'm still developing "my" style,I can copy drawing well.But if I don't have anything to copy or something I draw in a style which isn't mine it's just a simple style which I find the quickest way to draw but I don't feel comfortable with it

    • @lolibunny366-9
      @lolibunny366-9 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Paulina Varonik I'm also 11. I haven't developed my style yet but copying is something really helpful for me. I use copying because it's a great learning experience. It helps me get the hang of stuff and just today I got annoyed by everyone else showing off their artwork in THEIR style and me over on the sidelines like "today I made a drawing in Baylee Lee's style" or whatever. When I say stuff like that (even if the art looks good) I usually get looks like 😐 or 😒. U know what I mean? I like learning from other people but after this video I think I finally developed (the beginning) of my style. Thanks HulloAlice

    tbh I'm a younger artist, and i REALLY stress about my art style, I think it's because I want to be unique... i mean that's the #1 reason why many people stress about it. This really helps though, hopefully I can forget about stressing about it -.- Thank you for putting effort and work to help us younger (and older if you still haven't) artists. You have taken time out of your day to help, and that means SO MUCH.

    I'm totally going through this trouble at the moment. I am at the point where I want to do more original paintings.
    I need to go back to basics and look at more anatomy, as well as think about what ideas I want to convey in my art. I need to refine the style in my head first, as you said.
    So thank you so much for sharing Alice :)

    @hulloalice I’m an artist too and I draw a lot of people, specifically dancers in lots of different poses. My tip for shoulders is to use a lot of references. When ever I’m creating a pose I look at sometimes dozens of reference images to make sure everything looks natural and fluid. I also focus on how the muscles and joints move and how they are able to move. A tip from one artist to another :)

    First Of All, Wow Alice! Your makeup looks flawless in this video. Secondly, I'm 11. I am known to be "THE artist" in my school. I really try to improve my art daily and focus and different surfaces. I also decided to start a TH-cam channel. Something about me is often find that I push my self to follow other artists style. Over time I learned and slowly came to find my own style. This Video honestly helped me define my style. Thank You So Much.

I make art videos and yours are 10 times more amazing than mine! You inspire me and many more, A lot of people look up to you as I do and I wanted you to know that! Secondly, I find your videos so easy to understand and are very helpful! A bunch of artists use very hard words and all of those art terms and you don’t you make it easy to understand! Your videos are so helpful I love the one about noses and how to draw them! You are amazing! I have to stop there because like I said before I don’t want to take up your time, but I just wanted you to know that you inspire young artists out there and you are doing a great job at making videos! I use mitten hands, then draw in the fingers later. It was how I learned to do hands. Mittens, then fingers, but if you have issues immediately doing the fingers, keep the mittens, work on a different part of the body, then come back to the hands.

  • @JillWouters
    @JillWouters 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In the end your style is like your handwriting in my opinion. It develops and changes over time. No one draws the same and in the end THAT is your style... imho
    Bij all means EXPERIMENT. Try out different styles, mimic different styles. So you find out whatever you like.
    As you grow older, you sometimes change your style. That's fine. Don't panic. (I'm in no way a professional by the way ...I draw occasionally XD)
    Also, don't make the same mistake as I do and keep drawing small pictures. Whenever I draw small, I find that I cannot nail the details because it's just too small. I just need to learn to draw larger so I can work better.

    In attempt to start making my style, I wemt through all of the art I saved on Instagram and drew eyes (lips and noses as well, later on) and after I had half a page full of (literal) thumbnail sized eyes, I looked at the ones I really liked, picked what i liked about them (the way they were shaped, the was the pupil was, etc.) And then kinda like...made an eye inspired by those different traits i liked. His was all pretty recent, so I'm in this phase were im like "how do I draw this in other angles? How would i draw it with these expressions?" But I'm sure I'll get there someday. Just figured I'd share my own experience 💕

    Um I really hope no one gives you any trouble about your advice it is really good. Those are great ideas! I've been chunking stuff into a art file on Pinterest but I haven't looked at all of it to find common elements. I would go to draw eye worried I was stealing someone else's way they make eyes. Now I see how I can just put a OC together with out worrying. Thanks! I sub'd btw

      Thankyou so much! And yeah if you look for the overall THEME between all of them it's really hard to "copy" anything, especially as you're figuring out your own way to draw it!

    Alice, have you tried yoga?I've never guessed that yoga could effect my ability with anatomy but the more I got into yoga and the more teacher trainings, the more drawing them became natural. As a yoga teacher you spend a lot of time looking at people's anatomy that you start to recognize shapes and lines of the body both when a muscle is flexed and when it's not.

    Hi Alice, you have answered my long term questions in finding my art style. I'm a new digital artist who uses his pad pro and pencil as a medium. And my biggest concern after my style have been found is time management. Since this is a bother to me and I can't draw whenever I want. I work and study in college the same time so weekends are my only free time. How do you manage your drawing sessions when you have a busy schedule and how do you reward yourself when you managed to do an art piece ?

      hahahahahaha
      I have severe ADHD and have the WORST time management of anyone you've ever known. Case in point? All my videos have to be done by Thursdays because I'm away from home most of the day Thursday. I filmed an edited this entire video on Wednesday, starting at 8pm at night, after spending most of the week watching Orange is the New Black.
      I wish I had some tips for you, but this is something I really struggle with as well! Try using a planner and scheduling out drawing time perhaps? Good luck!!

      HulloAlice ah. if you happened to know me. I get easily distracted and I lose interest in any hobby I start. but this hobby is expensive and forces me to put time on it. :\

    My style is not just one but too different styles. It just depends on my mood so sometimes I will draw something with real meaning. Or just a fun random drawing like a cat whering a llama costume (yes that is something I have drawn) and I'm only right before my teen years

    Great video and amazing tips :) I think witj practicing the basics (what I do too at the moment :D) style comes kind of automaticly. AT least I feel like it. I think after a while some people just develope a style in which they draw,sketch etc
