It really is sad how many actually incredible games like this there are that have been almost entirely forgotten rather then receiving the remaster they truly deserve. As such my heartfelt gratitude goes out to each and every one of these legendary individuals pouring their blood sweat and tears into keeping these incredible games from disappearing into the void like so many other older titles.
@msNovaSixx Yeah but honestly, the chances of them being copyright struck once they release is probably high. Also, are they using a new game engine or still SAGE? I would love for BfME in say the Starcraft 2 engine. The dream.
I always liked how this game portrayed units moving and fighting in formations, as opposed to the disorganized blobs in other RTS games. Like a halfway point between a traditional RTS and a Total War game.
Command and conquer did it pretty well too, especially 3 where infantry grouped up in squads. They’re not square formations like in this game but that’s because they’re in a sci-fi/modern setting so squad tactics makes more sense. The armor always was good, but was also best and most cinematic in 3. This game was awesome too, and you’re right about the use of formations in it.

Edain mod for this game is on another level: new units, new heroes with custom voicelines, new ring heroes with unique mechanics, new factions. Perhaps even greater mod for BFME than Grimhammer is for Wahammer 3 imo Chefs kiss
100% agree! It brings back the static base and build point design of BFME 1 while expanding the game with tons more factions! I love it! I’ve spent hours playing
@@andrewbraddock5101 I have. I played it a bit, but ultimately went back to Edain mod. I prefer the static base building model to the free building of AotR or base BFME2. Both are solid mods though.

I remember one thing I found hilarious as a kid while playing this, was how the upgraded elven arrows would just fling enemies backwards and tom bombadil
I remember playing this game with a couple buddies a few years back. And one of my friends playing as the dwarfs used the strategy I dubbed as "The Trump Solution" which was basically drowning the map in walls.
Build an odd-numbered section of walls, tear down every other segment and the endpoints, build a catapult on every now free standing segment. Repeat the process somewhere behind your base in the corner of the map. Congratulations! Your enemy now gets to live through the Somme Experience™! Best results when playing as Gondor/Humans due to their siege equipment having that little bit of extra range that lets them hit enemy catapults and ballistae first.
I remember playing this game with my brother in an old school gaming cafe! This is a wild surprise mashup of Kleaper nonsense and nostalgia! Much appreciated man
This game was one of my favorites growing up - great vid, Kleaper, thanks for bringing me back to a time when life was simpler. I stupidly sold the disc a while back, and have been trying to find a way to play both the first and second games ever since. Shame there's no way to do that...
I have spent so many fucking hours in this game. Pure fun. Wonderful hero system, distinct factions, good gameplay, simple. Also, I don't think I've ever picked a non-wizard as a custom hero. The variety in capability is just so nice.
Oh yes mine was archer for the good factions which on lv10 would obliterate every high-level unit or enemy hero instantly, and trolls for bad factions because of hacknslash attacks, quakes and best summonings
Man you don't understand how glad I am your covering this this was my childhood. You can play it online through certain... means... and it's just incredible
There’s a 3-in-1 launcher for both LOTR battle for middle earth games and the mod version of the second game called Rise of the Witch king! It include the original launch versions of the games along with community updated versions that change how the campaigns play by adding some new units, missions, and hero’s. The launcher also comes with free access to multiplayer arena with a small community that is pretty active, I highly recommend getting the launcher
I remember playing War of the Ring and it is soooo broken. You start a battle with 0 units in your army, stomp the AI in a normal game, as you do, and than the army you build in your skirmish just stays on the world map. Good times.
God this brings back memories of watching my mate play this when younger and his utter panic when he saw a Balrog coming for him for the first time ''Its a Balrog....A BALROG! A BAAALROOOOG''
And if they made the newbie mistake of placing their buildings close to one another the balrog's fire breath takes down everything but fortresses in one hit. So you can kill 3-5 buildings in one go. I think anyone who played this game understood that Mordor players would always rush Balrog ASAP.
Time to let loose my favorite bit of useless trivia. The pre-made heroes in the My Heroes builder are all based on the characters of The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, which was an ff10 style turn-based RPG that I played the hell out of on the Game Cube. Super fun and still available on emulat--er, I mean, viable legal game discs.
Hell yeah, one of my favorite games of all time that I thought only like 3 people knew existed. Thank you Kleaper, now through your efforts 5 people know it exists
Teleporting is cool and all, but I'll just be building that goblin tunnel next to your base minute one before sending the goblin swarms at you. It's fun bullying Isengard.
Thank you for uploading, Kleaper. I just lost a close family pet, and I opened up TH-cam to try and cheer myself up, and I saw that you’d uploaded in the last half hour.
Well, there's still an active community for it. Vanilla games are still being casted and posted on TH-cam. I recommend checking Ruudevil, though he casts mostly the Age of the Ring mod for this game for years now.
I am humbly requesting a video on C&C Generals: ZH. Because once you get advanced tech as any faction, you get an infinite money generator. Start as a turtle, Spam those down, and then you can literally build as much of anything as you want, including Nukes!! Me and my brother were messing around as kids with it and ended up with like... 9 or 10 nukes that literally won us the game in less than 5 seconds and crashed the game to desktop. 10/10, favorite game of all time
Man i loves this game as a kid. My favorite pary was always the trolls, you could feed orcs to them to heal, make them pull a tree out of the ground for a club, and once they leveled up they got armor and a huge mace
This was my go to RTS for the longest time. still one of the best ones out there I would say. if they would ever make a new one for the searies that would be hype. although very unlikely since it's a niche inside of a niche.
Holy crap, I never expected to see my favorite childhood game on TH-cam played by the greatest war crime simulator fan ever. Also reminds me that I currently have a copy of this base game with all the CDs. So uh... might look into doing something with that.
I remember there used to be a bug with the Elven Heal spell that heroes could take, where it didn't have a cooldown, letting you spam it continuously healing the hero and all nearby troops forever.
It almost brought a tear to my eye, considering bfme was the first game I ever played back in early 2000's. Thank you for that ❤ Btw,you should DEFINITELY try the Age of the Ring mod for the Rise of the Witch King.By far,the most complete and recently updated there is(also got mod of the year in ModDB I think)
Holy shit, I absolutely loved this game growing up. Playing a skirmish as the Elves and picking Helms Deep and just sitting on the walls farming kills with archers... good times. While I'm surprised to see my favorite Total Warhammer/Rimworld TH-camr playing BFME II (a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one) I'm even more surprised to see it running on a PC. Without the original discs, getting this game to run on my PC has proven nearly impossible.
I still remember seeing quite possibly the best ability of any game EVER in this one, that being the ability to summon Tom freaking Bombadil, and he happily skips around the battlefield absolutely trouncing every enemy which gets in his path.
Please revisit this after giving the mod "The Age of the Ring" a shot. It expands upon the base game HEAVILY, adding some many new units, several new factions, full reworks to each faction, updated graphics, and a stagering amount of new maps. Feels like the sequal I always wanted from this series that we unfortunately never got. Great video, glad to see more RTS games getting the love they desperately need!
Me and my dad always loved playing this game on the 360 and it’s what got me into strategy games alongside civ rev. My dad found a way to win on Helm’s deep against the hardest Ai without losing a single unit. If I remember it right; he spams rangers along the walls then gets some siege weaponry and just kills everything from long range for hours until he gets bored and decides to destroy the enemy base instead of getting a ridiculous K/D ratio
Man, I loved this game back in the day - along with a couple other games by the same developers: Command and Conquer Generals and Command and Conquer 3. If you've never played them, just imagine this game, but with tanks and soldiers with over-the-top accents nuking each other. Thankfully those games are on Steam and don't need mods to work these days - and they hold up just as well as Middle Earth 2.
At first I was like "why is youtube recommending me a video about some old LoTR game I don't care about?" -then I saw who uploaded it. You have the ability to make any game interesting lol
Random fact about Ring Heroes - All 'Good' (Men, Elves and Dwarves) get Galadriel and All 'Evil' (Isengard, Goblins and Mordor) get Sauron if they get the One Ring back to a Fortress (the AI on Brutal not too sure on other Difficulties) can summon their Ring Hero
So many good times on this game just torturing the enemies. My favorite move was calling in a meteor and a balrog at the same time. Because as if a nuke isn't enough, there's also a pissed off demon inside
The stats can be very impactful! Especially when you make troll hero's. I remember using them when I played and you can make incredible cheap hero's that can work early game as a massive tank (letting you dominate the map's resources), which can become a monster fast. The first game is better though, I still play BFME, it's campaign is the best! While the risk mode of BFME 2 is also so fun.
Mirkwood Archers and silver thorn arrows. Congratulations you now have an army of elves equipped with the middle age equivalent of a .50 caliber sniper rifle.
God I loved this game as a kid. It and Offworld Resource Base were my two go-to strategy games back then. I bet my dad still has the discs to both games lmao, I ought to ask
I loved this game so much, so many good memories playing LAN with my friends, back when that was something you could do. I’m sad that I have just aged myself with this statement.
15:20 in the first game the orcs were also trash, but at least cost nothing to produce, if I remember correctly. It was quite fun to attempt to drown the enemy in bodies
I spent HOURS in the character creator of this game to play with my friends, we used to carry our computers to someone's house to play together (Because I'm that old). Love this game!

this brought back so many memories i played the xbox 360 version as a kid it looks very different than the pc version
"Uruk Hai are way cooler" a reaper after my own heart
Random fact about Ring Heroes - All 'Good' (Men, Elves and Dwarves) get Galadriel and All 'Evil' (Isengard, Goblins and Mordor) get Sauron if they get the One Ring back to a Fortress (the AI on Brutal not too sure on other Difficulties) can summon their Ring Hero
Kleaper playing a Lord of the Rings game? This is truly a wonderful day!
So many good times on this game just torturing the enemies.
My favorite move was calling in a meteor and a balrog at the same time. Because as if a nuke isn't enough, there's also a pissed off demon inside
Bro the nostalgia of this game I’m loading it up rn because of you
Man I had a blast with this game. Love seeing the retro game playthroughs!
Hooooly shit that's Berethor. I've just broken Third Age back out holy fuck.
1:14 And that? _That's Just Gelt._
23:16 Sauron understands that mercy is for the weak
I loved this game so much, so many good memories playing LAN with my friends, back when that was something you could do. I’m sad that I have just aged myself with this statement.
Listen, when i tell you I've been searching for all this info for ALMOST A DECADE, I mean it. God bless you friend!
15:20 in the first game the orcs were also trash, but at least cost nothing to produce, if I remember correctly. It was quite fun to attempt to drown the enemy in bodies
Empire Total War sometime, perhaps? Another old but really good game.
I spent HOURS in the character creator of this game to play with my friends, we used to carry our computers to someone's house to play together (Because I'm that old). Love this game!
Absolutely fuck yeah.
I'm so happy.
bfme my beloved.
