The first Malcolm & Melvin and Babe, He Calls Me have to be one of the darkest and most adult What-A-Cartoon shorts I have had watched as a kid. I would pay top dollar to watch an actual animated series based on these shorts.
For people complaining that this is disjointed and makes no sense, Ralph Bakshi has disowned these couple of shorts made for Cartoon Network, on the grounds that they were so deeply altered and butchered with cuts that his original ideas had nothing to do with the released product.
Canais Young it actually wasn’t his fault. People mistook a scene from Mighty Mouse as a cocaine reference even though bakshi didn’t mean to reference that in the first place.
Me: Malcom, Melvin, you two will play the trumpet. Bunky, you play the bass. Melvin's mom, you play the piano and do the backup singing. Say Wen, you do the lead singing. And I’ll do the drums!
And so, Say-Wen, Malcom and Melvin went on to create and rule Coolworld only to be overthrown by Holly Wood and dunked in Who Framed Roger Rabbit dip or something.
The last time Ralph Bakshi did a cartoon for kids, it got canceled because media watchdog groups thought Mighty Mouse was inhaling cocaine. I don't want those filthy, ignorant Standards and Practices goons messing up Ralph Bakshi's work again.
In both of these, Melvin ends up to be happy contented and he wins. Thats actually a wonderful moral considering his terrible situation at the start of the first episode.
Thank you so much! I love the WAC Shorts, especially the works of Seth MacFarlene, Craig McCracken, Genndy Tatakovski, Butch Harman, and even the legendary Ralph Bakshi. Great job on finding the two Ralph Bakshi shorts finds. And did you know that the narrator sounded alot like Lou Rauls in both shorts?
the guy with the hat also plays chicken on "cow and chicken" Can you believe some of the stuff they said on cartoons, "PERVERTS,SEXY and GIRLS MOANING "OHH MELVIN"
Bakshi should have spent more time making short cartoons like this instead of all those poorly rotoscoped fantasy films. He's at his best when he's doing batshit crazy urban cartoons.
I love that Batman wannabe...he's so funny everytime he calls somebody a pervert and mumbles about the ills of society. Somehow he is to me a sort of parody of the Dark Knight Returns comic. And this cartoon in particular reminds me of that sick fuck Cool World
another gr8 from BAKSHI any1 studying film should buy his book UNFILTERED the complete ralph bakshi. he puts so much emotion in his cartoons, it's so inspirational
Wow... in all my years of watching Cartoon Network, all the times I watched "World Premiere Toons" back when they were first introduced... neither Malcom & Melvin cartoon ever showed as far as I remember... they always ran the same cartoons over and over again. =\ All I ever saw were the old debut episodes of Johnny Bravo, Dexter and the Powerpuff Girls, and stuff like Hard Luck Duck, Pfish & Chip, Dino in "Stay Out" and Yuckie Duck. All good cartoons in their own right, but it got repetitive.
Don't forget, there was also this cartoon called "Larry and Steve", which is pretty much "Family Guy" if it focused on Peter and Brian and was a kids cartoon.
I liked Malcolm who was helping that bozo in a boa (Melvin) for money. Shame on Melvin for sneezing away Malcolm's earnings with her dang boa. Melvin might be a star, but she ain't bright. *rimshot*
Why? Because it's his attempt at doing a kids' show, like that Mighty Mouse reboot that got in trouble for allegedly showing cocaine abuse? Or that Tattertown Christmas special that, while it never got picked up as an actual series, did make Nickelodeon realize that animated original programming would be a better draw than the syndicated and imported stuff (read: the Looney Tunes shorts for "Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon", the UPA cartoons for "Cartoon Kablooie", and the cartoons from continental Europe, the UK, and Japan they used for "Special Delivery").
A Ralph Bakshi cartoon. It's like Ren and Stimpy, only more surreal and screwed up. What's worse is that this is what it's like when filteted through executive meddling. When he's uncut and uncensored, he's more detanged than this.

I love how Bakshi combines the nonsencial cartoon style with elements of noir! Simply awesome.
This cartoon is adult swim worthy

+Canais Young And _Fire and Ice_.
Same thing that happened with Cool World
joesomenumbers So true. It appears that life always found a way to *troll* Ralph. 😔
That's what happened when he did Cool World and that Mighty Mouse cartoon that CBS aired.
Canais Young it actually wasn’t his fault. People mistook a scene from Mighty Mouse as a cocaine reference even though bakshi didn’t mean to reference that in the first place.

COOL WORLD MANIA!!!!!!!!!!!
A real classic!! Love it!
I was looking for this for years!
6:16 this part cracked me up
I love how she straight up yeets him to oblivion out of nowhere
Melvin: I’m through being an artist.
Malcom: And I’m back to being a roach.
Me: Malcom, Melvin, you two will play the trumpet. Bunky, you play the bass. Melvin's mom, you play the piano and do the backup singing. Say Wen, you do the lead singing. And I’ll do the drums!
This animation feels like Ren n Stimpy mixed with Morshu's movement style from Zelda CDI lol
And so, Say-Wen, Malcom and Melvin went on to create and rule Coolworld only to be overthrown by Holly Wood and dunked in Who Framed Roger Rabbit dip or something.
OMG! I loved this one, too! I used to try drawing Say-Wen when I recorded this on tape.
RIP Malcolm And Melvin
Would adore see more of there journey through this crazy ass city
Phsycotic, insane and extremely unstable, my kinda show. ah the cartoons of my youth.
This short and the one which preceded it deserved a show.
The last time Ralph Bakshi did a cartoon for kids, it got canceled because media watchdog groups thought Mighty Mouse was inhaling cocaine. I don't want those filthy, ignorant Standards and Practices goons messing up Ralph Bakshi's work again.
Say-Wen has to be my favorite character.
I have no idea what I just watched, but I greatly enjoyed it.
Melvin is so entertaining.
Even with Malcom and Say-Wen
@@BrandonKohout Especially the other Melvin cartoon
@@southlondonlad9144 You know what I mean.
@@BrandonKohout I do. Remember the part at 5:38.

6:45 maybe these guys could be a Quartet 🎙
How was this less than 8 minutes? It felt like I watched an entire season of a gritty crime drama.
Fast pacing
I wish there were more episodes. But we only got two. Actually, during the two I was wondering if Brad Pit was going to show up lol
Ralph Bakshi
Tex Avery
Bob Clampett
the masters of cartoon wackiness.
John K more like the Master of being a pedo who can't carry his own weight
And pat Ventura
You might want to exclude John K. from that. Not only was he guilty of grooming minors, but he was actually a complete fraud from the start.
"My client!"
*ROAR!!*
In both of these, Melvin ends up to be happy contented and he wins. Thats actually a wonderful moral considering his terrible situation at the start of the first episode.
I once thought 🤡Melvin & 🦗Malcolm, were Pinocchio & Jiminy. Anyone else ?
Here are some important rules in animating cartoons:

How twistedly random!
"To the Law-Mobile!"

YES A ANOTHER ONE!

The Doodles From Cool World

Or cartoons that look like colorized 1930s cartoons and only look like kids shows on the surface (i.e. Tattertown Christmas).
i thought his mom got famous
Say Wen And Melvin Got Married
And Lived Happily Ever After

I lul'd HARD at that.
And the Brick HARDROCK bit was gutbusting.
This was from 1997 to be from a what a cartoon show 22 years old
Interestingly enough, I think this is perhaps the only Ralph Bakshi short I enjoyed.
This was the last one from the what a cartoon show
Ralph Bakshi does it again.
Wasn't Melvin's mother a super star a moment ago?
Jack Deebs+Frank Harris=
Brick Hardrock
Holli Would Too.
4:31 why won’t this brute leave poor Melvin alone ?! 😡
NO MUSICAL NUMBERS!!!!!!!!

I rented that book out from a library. Now I'm trying to buy a copy of my own.
6:37 I Bet this sweet chick would love to date Melvin 💘
Can’t argue with that.
This isn't 'what a cartoon,' this WHY?!?tv
@johnnieRad Wait, wait, they had a cartoon series!?
@3ddw1nn Are you kidding!? Thats how they made the cartoon!
this one was like for... mature audiences.
Does Say Wen Have A Striking Resemblence To Lonette From Cool World?
This should have been a cartoon series.
Bakshi has got more style than anyone in the biz
This cartoon is so random that Melvin should be the official mascot for /b/.
Was Malcom and Melvin banned like the No smoking episode of Cow & Chicken?
How Long Has Ralph Bakshi Retired From Animation?
this si waay to bouncy for my taste
But it has pretty good merits
Huh, ralph bashki o.o
