I had the exact same thing happen to the 5.7 in my 2005 model Ram 1500. However, on the 5.7, the entire engine gets destroyed when this happens. It doesn't have overhead cams, just the Crank to Cam chain. I had to buy a rebuild from Jasper and do a full engine swap. Just happened to me in April 2023 at 245k miles. On the plus side, the rebuild from Jasper has been phenomenal so far. I have about 7k miles on it now.
I did the same thing you did. I took off the tensioner and the chain jumped. The only is that I didn’t have it on top dead center. I don’t know what to do now. I don’t want to bent the valve by rotating
I have a 2004 dodge ram 4.7 and it blew a head gasket the guy that was fixing it took it all apart and now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to put it all back together can you help me with a diagram of the engine
I probably have the same issue too, bought a ram 1500 with the 4.7 had a misfire replaced spark plugs, and the 4# Injector the ecu said was bad. The truck kept misfiring! Truck shortly after was losing even more power eventually it wasn’t drivable and it wouldn’t start the next morning only pops and sputters.. my next step is to check for timing issue
Hey man I've got the same problem on my 2004. Looking at the front of the engine the top-right guide is completely shattered and I'm sure laying in the bottom of the oil pan by this point. Amazon has a timing chain kit and I know you get what you pay for type deal, but a quality one is pushing around $500. Any recommendations?
