The biggest problem is you go order a 16 timing chain and they give you a 32 timing chain kit and you install it and it won’t start and then your problem starts all over
Well, the only difference between the two of the timing chain kits is the Kam side reluctor ring. All you do to to fix that problem is change the gear back, which probably didn’t need to be changed in the first place. And just now to make sure you have your timing on you can unplug your cam sensor wire in the truck will start if you set your timing correctly
👏👏👏👏 As always, ACCURATE, BENEFICIAL, & just overall GREAT info from Mr. Clay. Good news: If you’re new to this channel and have stumbled upon this video while slamming your face repeatedly on a table in frustration trying to figure out what’s wrong with your Jeep Commander; your Quest is now OVER! All the info is HERE!
Very very kind of you to say this was very very interesting when I made this video I knew there was something different about the older models and I wondered what had changed…. Well it was the grand oh introduction of DaimlerChrysler, i’m certain they probably thought they were improving it……… at least that’s what I hope they thought they were doing they could’ve possibly knew that it would work very well but not for as long as it did before… I would not see a reason you would have to have lubrication at that point inside the engine
Hey Clay we have been watching your videos. Having said that we did a head gasket and timing chain set. All went great first fire was perfect. We did have the head resurfaced I don't know how much the machine took off? The jeep ran perfect , for about 7 minuets then a back fire and a no start and no vaccume. We pulled the chain cover and checked the sprocket position and chain tension. All was perfect we pulled the right head to find all the intake valves bent. My question is can you resurface 3.7 heads? And if you do do you need to get thicker head gaskets? The other question is are there different chain sets or are they all the same and we just milled the head to much? Any help would be great
Great tips about the tenssioners... I would like to ask you what do you think about the left tenssioner not installing the back restriction plate that has a little hole? I know it will make the tenssionar work with lots more of oil preassure but maybe would affect the overal oil preassure in the engine if I don't install that back plate?
I have an 04 ram that I replace worn parts as maintenance instead of repair. In 20 years the only broke part I replaced was a water pump But it was my next project that just hadn't made it off the garage shelf yet. Been considering cams and chains next summer just because I am at 240K. Are chains good for 300K or is that pushing barrowed time?
I did a timeing set today on a 2002 dodge ram 4.7 but only turning over good .I set it like you.are show .I line it up .but is it on tds....Kirkland 336.I 43.1100.thanks
I screwed up while trying to take off the bolts on the top sprockets i used two ranchets while holding the driver side still i turned the passenger side and it spun only that side what can i do to get all the marks back
No, but you just pull the front timing cover in the oil pan and you will be able to get the oil pump out. You obviously have to pull the timing out of it as well. If you have a four-wheel-drive version you’re gonna be better off just removing the engine..
Shoot just got a compressor put in 3.7 3 weeks later it's out should I just try refilling it or take it back will finding the leak cost alot now compressor won't even kick on good 650$ for a nice 3 weeks I guess. Old compressor burnt up turned black and stopped.
Small question I've got a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 l all wheel drive it's got 231,000 mi on it and it is stuck at a gas station here in town but I want to start up and it was shuttering and shaking real bad at very low RPM and it sounded like someone threw a couple rocks and a pop can and then it wouldn't start up I'm pretty sure it's the timing I've done timing jobs before but not when there's three timing chains and the kit that this 3.7 l cost for just wondering if you think I'm correct and it is the timing I washed your video and you said they have a problem with the tensioner arms can you help me out
i have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo 3.7 and i was wondering where i can get those `02 tensioners because i can`t find any on ebay/amazon or should i weld the holes shut and grind the weld smooth and polish it so it looks smooth?
Hi Clay, could you tell me how am I to keep the opposing camshaft from turning when I'm torquing down the bolt on the other camshaft. It's hard enough keeping one from turning even with using a vice grips on the shaft. Also even if I had the proper tool with pins for the left sprocket, the right sprocket that came with the cloyes chainset does not have any holes unlike the left one which has three holes or maybe two holes I can't remember. Anyhow everything else is done except for torquing these two bolts down to 90 ft lb and it's taking longer to do this then it has been to do the entire process up to now. I've gone to O'Reilly's and AutoZone and neither of them has a tool that does this. Do you have any advice for me, I'd appreciate it.
@@sharpcarco I figured out what I was doing wrong. After using a vice grips on the right camshaft I should have left the VG on that shaft after tightening it down when I go to the left camshaft. That's the problem and the second thing was not removing the fuel rail to allow the vice grips to lay firmly against the engine. At least that's what I'm hoping. Oh, and using a rag with the vice grips only makes it easier for the VG to move. I'm really not sure why people use the rag other than avoiding scratching the shaft, who's going to notice 🤷 By the way, I saw the pt sessions with your son, how's he doing today?
Fascinating information, glad you made these finds!! I will definitely put that to heart… So my timing chain may be going out. What needs to be drained before starting on the timing chain replacement? Just oil and coolant?
Technically speaking, you don’t have to change the oil I always do personally because you’ll get a little bit of coolant that will drop down inside there. But yeah that’s pretty much.
@@sharpcarco Thank you so much for the super fast response! I have 177,000 miles and kept getting all kinds of misfiring but replaced everything, spark plugs, coils, vacuum hoses, alternator, oil change, transmission oil change, Yada Yada. And now I think the timing chain is going out. It’s a bit frustrating but learning a lot. Thanks so much, clay! Hope you have an amazing day!
Hi Clay! Any luck with some info on how to stop Jeep Liberty from auto locking the doors? I deliver food to old folks and can't tell you how many times I've had to walk back up and unlock the doors to get at stuff in the back. I leave the car running as I have the food warming thing plugged in all the time. I try and take a extra key fob along, I just sometimes forget and then it's back and forth time! Happy 4th to you and yours!! Thanks for the educational as well as entertaining videos from Traverse City. (Good grief, just heard Biden was going to be here on the 4th weekend! Just what we need for traffic!!)
Holy crap I’m really sorry I forgot about that I will make a video pretty soon about that I’ll show you how to do it I do believe you can check in your owners manual if you still have it. And it will show you how to turn that off on your dash you can also look up the PDF file on Google it’ll show you how to do it there as well. Just to make sure we’re talking about a 2007 or newer correct?, I’m not sure what the procedure would be for the older ones
@@sharpcarco It is a 2007, however, it doesn't have the optional command center or what ever up on the ceiling. In the manual it tells you how to disable but only with that option. Dealer only wants $250 to do it and won't guarantee it will last if battery gets low etc. Haha! always something.
What do you mean dates? Dates for watt I’m married so unfortunately I’m not available for dates 😂😂😂😂😂 i’ve been with her for 26 years I doubt I’m going anywhere else…
@@sharpcarco hey well I am old half crippled woman so don’t think I will be any fun for a date. Anyways I normally post weekly. welcome to the channel. I appreciate very much you thinking of us over here and are willing to share.
Unfortunately, most of them are Chinese crap even the ones you buy at the dealership.. it’s very hidden mess. They only last as long as they’re gonna last anyways, the tensioners are probably the most important part. The rest is just steel and metal is metal…. I use the cheap ones all the time I don’t really ever have an issue with that only issue I’ve ever had was with the tensioners..
