The elephant at first charged at the lions , drove them away and then tried to help the Rhino get out of the pit. This shows that these animals have empathy and understanding too. The rituals they perform on the skeletal remains of their dead one also indicates that they are very intelligent animals.

In South Africa I was told once “the elephant is the real king of the jungle - but because they aren’t predators and eat meat, they aren’t ‘seen that way by people.’” And that totally solidified that for me watching the lions scurry away when they saw the elephants coming. Elephants are amazing

I mean if it was 1, I could maybe see the lions trying to do something....but the fact there was like a dozen of them, they definitely pissed right off.
But yeah in a fight they have tusks to gore with, a trunk to bonk with and just sheer mass and strength to do whatever the hell they want with. I'd fear them too if I was another species of animal.

It depends on what lens you look at it from. Sure the Elephant is the most powerful animal, similar to tigers in India - where Lions also reside in certain areas - but the symbolism of the Male Lion’s purpose in nature is to do nothing but fight for his legacy.
When Bull Elephants and Male Tigers come of age - they leave their respective families, and largely live lives of solitude. Kings of their own domains.
When Male Lions come of age, they’re forced to leave their families but the have this drive to create one or conquer one - and lead it. Legacy. Kings of their own dynasty. A dynasty that functions as one of the strongest groups in the domain.
That’s why people have always seen the Lion as the king of the jungle - because we’re social animals just like them. Never been the strongest animal individually but as a group we can conquer anything - and for much of history we’ve had strong males lead the way. Humans and lions share that in common.

Elephants are absolutely incredible creatures. Their size, strength, intelligence, and love for their own, especially their young is just amazing to witness. Who else noticed the herd circle around the calfs as they got near the pride of lions. Beautiful. And then for one to put forth a lot of effort to try to free the rhino was an incredible sign of their empathy.

If a person is there filming this suffering and not helping then I am ashamed of humans. If we are not there to help, then sure, all animals must eat to survive. But when you just stand and film this it's cruel and distasteful. Humans make up such stupid and unacceptable rules. And don't anyone defend filming this kind of thing. I live on a farm. Reading through these comments, it's heartening to see so many people acknowledging the incredible compassion and empathy these majestic elephants displayed. Nature, with all its beauty and cruelty, never fails to remind us of the interconnectedness of life. The way these elephants rallied around their fellow beings, be it their young ones or a struggling rhino, reflects a level of empathy that resonates with the best of human qualities. Let's strive to protect and preserve these magnificent creatures and learn from their lessons in kindness and solidarity. 🐘💚 #NatureTeachesCompassion

Nature teaches compassion? What? That is a good way to lead someone to their death. Nature is brutal because it is complexity happening at every moment. It's fine to humanize an instance and call it sweet, but there is a reason the human species developed tools, defenses, societies, and amenities. Nature is literally brutal, raw existence and it doesn't teach kindness. It hardens dwellers and they either survive by becoming intelligent to nature's brutality or they become a tiny speck of darwinism that happened in the great procession of existence marching on. Let's not confuse people and make them think Nature is just waiting for them with a big warm hug. Nature is not kind. Nature is Nature.

I saw a male lion, rhino and elephant there at the same time. The elephants wouldn't let any of the other animals drink while they were there and actively chased them away. When the last elephant left the rhino came in and the solitary male lion. It was something to behold. Nothing as dramatic as the video but still very special.

And instead of several of the adult elephants, going over there to help most stay back to protect their babies. It’s also sad to see the rhino is stuck in what looks like something man-made. So it leaves me to wonder if that man-made edging wasn’t there with the rhino had a better chance of getting out to save itself. It’s one of those it’s good that humans are there to help the animals at the same time by thembeing present and doing things, does it also hurt the environment and make it harder for the animals at times

I’m a big cat fan by far, but I also appreciate the beauty of other animals. The elephant really tried its hardest. I think the rhino was tried so it was able to use its strength to pull itself out with the help of the elephant. Once the elephant realized it couldn’t help it let the circle of life happened. Maybe the rhino was old, maybe the lions hadn’t eaten in days. Overall great video, we should never take mother nature for granted ❤

C'est pas une superbe vidéo quand on film une horrible scène sans bouger le petit doigt !!!

I loved how the elephant family protected the baby elephants in a circle first... Because they know Lions can be clever.

That wonderful elephant really tried to save the rhino. Such intelligent creatures, and they have such a nurturing demeanor about them. Mother nature at her finest, as well as at her worst. It’s all about survival, and only the strongest, and the quick witted will survive and have offspring to repeat the cycle.😮
That is the cruel and harsh reality of what it’s like for them living in the wild.

Unfortunately, the rhino was too weak to even stand, which the elephant recognized before retreating. Watching from afar, the passing elephant views nature taking it's course.

Wow that was quite the sighting! I would’ve loved to have had the chance to see something so meaningful. The elephant matriarch tried her hardest to get the rhino out but that man-made well is built like a death trap. There was another video of a giraffe that had fallen in a well and couldn’t get out. They really need to fix those things! 😡

@@christianWilliams-pc4jnI’m no expert but in my opinion, there’s that dug out line leading to a almost perfect circle hole. It doesn’t really look like a natural erosion of a small pond or sinkhole.

See I cannot watch this that’s why I went to the comment section to find out. I cannot see anything being tortured alive or suffering. It breaks my heart so much to watch anything like that. I don’t know why it just does. The rhinos are going into extinction. Whomever filmed this should have and could have taken action In Helping him. That just pissed me off. Ughhhhh

This is amazing, animals ave bigger hearts than humans do. They are showing compassion for this rhino, and human beings won't share compassion for each other. That is so sad.

So when an elephant helps out another animals its, "oh my goodness, how awesome? Such an empath! They have more heart than humans." And if a human steps in to help its, "distubeing nature! Its the circle of life!" Even though we are a part of nature as well.
