In this video we are going to show you how to test a seat belt pretensioner and figure out if it is goo or bad. If your airbag light is on maybe this is one of the reasons.
After testing the pretensioners on many vehicles we found that it could be a loose connection somewhere and not fault in the pretensioner.
We have experience pretensioner problems with Ford Explorer, Expedition, Ford Escape, and Ford F150. This particular one came out of a wrecked Ford Escape.

i had the airbag lights on and i've figured that the previous owner had the pre-tensioner wires cut from the car loom itself is there a way to find out how to wire the two wires back. even manually

my seatbelt pretensioner wiring has been cut from the seat sliding back and forth and has caused my airbag light to come on. I have a 2006 Ford crown victoria police interceptor. can I just buy another one or does the computer have to be flashed or something to recognize it

Nah just replace or repair the wiring but always make sure your battery is off.

What is the purpose of shorting bar? The metal clips that touching both wires.

Semih Yilmaz The shorting bar stops the pretensioner from being accidentally deployed. The one thing you never do is use a multimeter to test airbags or pretensioners unless you want a nasty explosion.

You don't test pretensioners. You replace them once the wiring and srs module are ruled out as possible culprits. Usually a scan tool indicates a code for a pretensioner fault (LH or RH). The pretensioner can be unplugged, removing it from the circuit. Then the vehicle wiring fitted near the pretensioner can be tested back to the srs module connector. You can swap pretensioners to help isolate the fault. We would sometimes buy used from a breakers yard (older cars) making sure the unit hadn't been deployed.

You're not supposed to ohm out a airbag or any tensioner with a ignitor....Where did you go to school?

Rubbish. You can test anything like this with an ohm meter. It's not like the meter is putting out heaps of volts and amps. Ohm meters are high impedance and this will not set anything offl
