  • A video on how to fix stuck, locked & jammed seat belt pretensioners after accident. All seat belts have a gas charge or a pyrotechnic device in them that goes off during a crash, locking the seatbelt mechanism. Once this gas charge goes off, the seat belt will not work again during an accident. Once fired, your seat belt may be jammed, locked, not retracting, stuck, making weird rattling noises and your airbag light may be on. In rare situations, the seat belt will work fine but still be bad. If you suspect that your seat belt is blown or the gas charge has set off, you will need to remove it and then follow the instructions on properly testing it for the Ohms resistance. If the seat belt is good, you will have a 2-3 Ohms reading. If the seat belt is bad, the Ohms reading would either jump around rapidly or read 0. This means that your locked, jammed, stuck or blown seat belt is bad and will not work again! At this point what I do is send it out to www.safetyrestore.com/ to get it repaired. A lot cheaper than buying new from the dealer. I work with a lot of salvage cars and have been using Safety restore for a very long time, all the guys at safety restore are great and get the job done! 24 hour turnaround & lifetime warranty.
Seat belt fix is compatible with Acura, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, Dodge, Cadillac, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Subaru, Chrysler, GMC, Jeep, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and other models.

THIS VIDEO IS AN ADVERTISEMENT, NOT A GUIDE.
Most of you probably have seatbelts stuck in reverse lock. Here's the solution:
    1. Hold the seatbelt retractor between your legs in the EXACT same orientation as it is on the car (as close as you can get it)
    2. Wind the seatbelt back 1/2" -3/4"
    3. Gently pull the seatbelt back up, making sure that the belt exits the retractor at the same angle it would when installed on the car.
    4. If it locks, back it up 1/2" - 3/4" and try again. You may have not gotten the orientation right.
    5. When you pull it out all the way, use a clip to keep it from retracting back or loosely tie a knot in it to prevent it from retracting all the way again. (Obviously don't install your seatbelt with a knot in it).
There. 5 steps. I fixed 3 junkyard seatbelts this way. Was that so hard, Gavin?

I'm looking for a solution so I don't have to take the retractor out. I'm a chick. These tools confuse me. 😉

How about going to the junk yard and getting another one instead of the expense of sending off and fixing? Just a thought.

I have a 03 durnago with a shorted seat belt. the gas charge hasn't gone off. Can I just put a 2,5 ohm resistor across both wires before the connector? to turn off the light? or solder in a good pigtail from the wreckers?

People commenting negatively here have no idea what they are talking. you cannot fix a seat belt with a blown charge at home it has to be sent out and this company is pretty good although they are the only ones I have used. Perhaps he should change his title for the more dim-witted.

What do you mean the seatbelt will never work again if you unlock it and put it back in yourself? It won’t retract? Or what? I don’t really care if it doesn’t lock up when i get into a wreck. I just want the seatbelt to retract so i don’t get a seatbelt ticket when driving

Never use a multimeter to probe those wires. That can cause an unexplored charge to go off.

3:00 That's actually an open circuit read, not zero ohms (which would indicate short circuit).
