I'm very impressed with Eric's driving and his basically stock GMC 3500. The truck that's not built for anything like Sand Hollow yet it does very well. It's Eric's second time on SmoothRock & Sand and he just keeps moving on. I'm from Arizona so my plan from the start was to root for Merlin but the moment the games started I switched to BSF. That husband and wife really do work together as a team. Eric is The GodFather of Off Road Towing & Recovery Channels.
I've followed a few of these builds and I've gotta say, the work Matt and his crew put into building that off-road-wrecker-crawler-beast has been impressive. Kudos to all the builds, because they are all pretty much bullet-proof recovery vehicles. But the all-wheel steer, the multiple winches, etc, and the way it idled through most of these challenges was just phenomenal.
Matt’s definitely did better than I was expecting due to its size. It is an incredible build and one that can definitely pull. The rear steer made all the difference when moving around in the right turns
He didn't have to use his winches, he kept Lizzy close so there was little chance of a rollover. She is such a fearless trooper no matter what the task.
I believe Matt powered it with a used GM engine. I could be wrong That thing is a beast and can only get better. 👍 I wish I could have been there. Thanks for sharing your fun.
Rory is an all around awesome humble guy. He’s definitely the winner. Would rather help everyone make it thru than himself. He took such good care of the tow vehicle too lol
If I had a choice of all of the them to call to recover me, I would call Rory. He cares about the vehicles he tows and it really showed at the Wrecker games. Rory, by far, is the most all-around skilled recovery team. Very impressive games overall.
That Rorys full time job and he has thousands of hours in that truck! He should be very skill at it by now! Literally years of experience. Matts rig is bas ass and is only going to get better!

Matt and team is doing really good with their offroad recker considering they only just got it in decent condition like the day before the games and thus don't really know all the best dos and don'ts for it and the most optimized way to handle obstacle.

I saw on another show that he broke a front spring hanger which let the front driveshaft come apart, he put the driveshaft back together, but I don't know about the rest

So what, he grew up and got a place of his own that him and his girlfriend can share. He helped with the frame and a few other things before he moved. Privacy is the main reason. Wasn't you his age at one time? He's a big boy now.

Day three was more of a wind down. They had some rigs run the trail again for cleanup. There was a flop but everyone was fine.

The diesel is soon cool! Hard to beat the rear steer of Matt's rig though! Paul's wrecker is set up well but could use duals for added traction
