Wow. This is the first time I’ve felt a bit what it must’ve been like for people living on Earth centuries ago. To see the sea and think it just goes on forever. The idea that it went in a loop is mind blowing.

@@bareng-an221 no, even in the deepest middle ages Christians knew earth was round and had even a pretty damn accurate calculation of how big it was - that knowledge absolutely did survive from the Greeks.
Ever wondered why the imperial orb is, you know, an orb? It symbolizes the world the monarch claims to have a right to rule over as its universal ruler by the grace of God and you know it's... round. It already was in the year 1000, in the high middle ages.
Or when the pope gives the blessing 'urbi et orbi' meaning 'for the city and for the world' the Latin word orbi means world, but it's literal meaning in Latin in 'circle'. The church absolutely knew the world was round and never forgot.
The reason almost no one traveled west before Columbus was that people KNEW the earth was round and had an pretty much correct calculation of its scope and without the knowledge of the large landmass of America in between concluded that there would be so much ocean between Europe and East Asia, that no ship could pack nearly enough provisions and the crew would just die. The reason Columbus traveled west was because he was so incredibly bad at maths, didn't believe the calculation, redid it on his own and fucked it up so badly that he thought the world would actually be like 40% smaller than it is and the journey would thus be possible.
Yes, people in the 'dark ages' had better maths then him and without the luck of the Americas being in the way he would've just been a fool, starving after months at sea. That's why no one traveled west for so long.
The church thought the sun would move around earth instead of vice versa, but medieval society never believed in a flat earth - people get that mixed up.

I was today years old when I found out the world of ice and fire is called Planetos instead of Earth! GRRM really covers ALL bases
Planetos is a term created by fans because of the names of continents in asoiaf. Essos, westeros, sothoryos, ulthos, etc. GRRM didn't created that term.

You can find many maps made by fans in which they speculate, image or theorize what the rest of the wolrd lookw like, and until now Martín has given no new information about the rest of the world, and it's unlikely that it will happen soon or at all, since Martín wants to keep some secrets and mysteries in his world.

In the books deanerys is told to go west she must go east. By the fire woman in qarth. I really wish in the books she sails far to the east and ends up arriving at casterly rock winning a decisive victory because she was the first to sail across the world.
Her name is Quaithe and funnily enough there's actually a theory that Quiathe and Ellissa Farman are the same person.

Yeah I've had the same thought. With dragons, Daenerys s fleet would have an easier time crossing the sunset sea by scouting for land. Westeros is well equipped to defend its East by the Warden of the West, likely jamie Lannister. That's where the Royal Fleet is. From the west, they'll be caught totally off guard and have no naval power there

Corly's story would be more appealing to the avarage viewer because he was just a curious man doing his voyages.
Euron seeked greater power, raided and destroyed wherever he went. Ripped the tonghes of his crewmen because he prefers silence, took warlocks as captives, allergitly threw a dragon egg overboard because he was drunk in a mood and that's just the tip of the iceberg that is his madness. As he said himself "When men see my sails, they pray"
Although both would be interesting as a "tales of the sea" mixed stories series, I don't think we will get a different Euron from what we got already

GoT leaned HEAVILY into it's magical elements for the clear and vast majority of it's run. And all of those elements, like the Night King & his storyline, Bran & the three eyed raven and even Arya & the faceless men were some of the most popular and well received storylines from the show.
Hell, Dany had THREE DRAGONS and people LOVED her and her dragons.
And the two seasons were D&D made a conscious decision to rid the world of the magical elements are coincidentally two of the worst seasons of the show.
Point being, the average fan has no issue with fantasy elements, especially if they are handled with as much care as Seasons 1-6 of GoT. This idea that fantasy elements turns away potential viewers is the same excuse D&D used when they wrote the last season, & they reasoning for neutering so many essential storylines that had people hooked from day 1....and history has shown they were clearly wrong in their assessment.

I always thought Arya would simply ask Bran since he can literally see everything. But I know, she wanted to see it first no spoilers. Hope the Snow show happens and she appears.
Considering that he sees through the weir wood trees it might be that he can't see outside the continent of Westeros. There might also be limits on how far back in time he can go, as I don't thing even the books have shown him looking much farther back that the first long night, so who knows what was going on in that world over the last few hundred million years.

It would be amazing if there is a country west of Westeros that observes the Seven Kingdoms and decided not to pursue contact due to the constant political and military conflicts. And like the Free Cities of Essos were aware of this country and simply not decided the to inform Westeros just to spite them

I can't remember but isn't West where that one Targaryen princess flew on the black dread and when she came back she was all fucked up and so was the dragon? it was on one of the Targaryen history videos on TH-cam. I don't know why but that story just creeped me out. I can't imagine what kind of creature could injure the black dread.

She didn't really go there as much as she was taken there by the dragon she was trying to ride and had no control over.
Also, they went to Valyria and nobody knows exactly what caused her to return dying since she died soon after return to Kings' Landing.

They need to make an open world game set in game of thrones with a style like the Witcher 3 or red dead redemption. I rarely buy new games on full price nowadays (except for hogwart’s legacy) and would instantly buy an open word game set in game of thrones. Ik if they made a game like that, it would be very long and require a lot of data if they want to give gamers a full experience. But it’d definitely be a best seller and even win goty

You don't need to sail to find out if the world is a globe. You just need some trig, a couple tall sticks and either a) a decent memory or b) a decent telescope
common misconception is that before Columbus, Vespucci or Magellan, people thought earth was flat. in reality, lot of ancient culture were already making measurements towards that conclusion, like ancient India and hellenic world.

if they were going southwest then how did they end up east in Asshai at least over twenty years apart? Its also said the wind did not blow for a fortnight and the sky turned red as a vicious storm came upon Alys Westhill and two Hightowers that The Old King sent to capture her but sailed with her instead. The Isles they passed were the Summer Islands. You also have to remember Aerea Targaryen who may have went to The Doom and Jaenara Belaerys who traveled far Sothoros on Terrax for 2 years.

Normally would agree but I’m going to disagree here. Changing Corlys to a darker skinned person actually added to the story narratively without any additional dialogue. The visual difference between the Valarians and Rynaera’s children was so striking that it added to the Bastard claim. Corlys is never said to have pale skin specifically.
