Here it is March 20, 2024 and I woke up at 5 AM and I don’t know why this song came into my head. From the moment I heard it I loved it and me being Latino and being raised in Northwestern Ohio at that time this song definitely touch something inside of me. Thank you for posting it. I’ll be listening to this song until my last day on earth.
Listen to their 'Cara Mia' original. His voice is amazing but at the end you also get to hear the voices of all of the other singers....they were amazing as well.
@@frankcarone3769 and Johnny maestro of the crests and the Brooklyn Bridge. If you’ve never heard any of his songs, you can find them on TH-cam. He was awesome. The only awesome singer that is still alive is Gary Pucket.
BOY OH BOY WE WERE SO LUCKY TO HAVE BANDS LIKE JAY AND THE AMERICANS IN THE 1960s. THE VOICE OF DAVID BLATT(JAY) IS AMAZING THE VOCALS -WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE. FIFTY (50) YEARS ON STILL THE SAME. WONDERFUL MAN-WONDERFUL BAND. JUST LOVED THEIR WORK. MAY YOU R.I.P. DAVID (JAY) YOU WERE - THE MAN. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.
Talk about a group with a damn great lead singer, all members were very talented in their own right. The ending to walking in the rain, what a voice. What a classic piece of tv history and thanks so much for posting.
A classy and thoughtful intro by Shelly Berman and Mike Douglas. Mike Douglas was a terrific crooner in his own right. Jay Black was a talent unto himself.
"Is this Passover?" (4:50) Jay kills me with his stage banter he still does today. Finest yiddish Rock & Roll performers who just took American Rock and Roll in their hands with great material, style and talent.
And you know something , Jay Black could still sing as good into his 60s as back then ...yes even the high notes,no probs a great vocal range from his earlier operatic training,, a lovely chap as well.
Its so cool!! This band was a little before my time but my Uncle whom played in many bands and is a hell of a guitar player and song writer turned me on to this band!! I am still a huge fan of Jay and the Americans today!!! Wow!!! great music!!!
It's sad to see him in his prime knowing this great talent has left us. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Jay, and we loved his music and were proud of him, and many of us tried to emulate his long and hanging note in Cara Mia to no avail. He was one of a kind.
Walking in the rain is my favorite Jay and the Americans song. Jay probably had the best voice of anyone in the rock, pop category, maybe anyone period. It's possible.
OMG, I remember Mike Douglas! He was a good interviewer. They used this song on the short-lived TV series Anything But Love with Jamie Lee Curtis and Richard Lewis. I have the show on DVD; it's about a Chicago magazine so it was right up my alley! Funny show.
"Walking in the Rain" is actually a song originally sung by the Ronettes from 1964. The Jay and the Americans version is a cover. That said, their version is so powerful! They really sang this so well!
3:45 “I think it’s my Bar Mitzvah picture”. Jay was truly 1 in a million, as are Marty, Sandy, Kenny and late Howie. I can’t stop watching this performance.
Good morning my friend I was born in 1955 to Jay and Americans were great group to in there era to Today's music 🎶 is like garbage to Am still listening to this music in august of,2024 to
Jay sadly passed away in recent years, Because of his financial situation, through gambling and tax issues, he worked for many years longer than his voice could really handle. He had one of the best voices in pop history..

ONE OF THE BEST SONGS 🎵 ❤️ 1964 JAY AND THE AMERICANS

The greatest singer of all time!
I still love him today. I hope he can see and know he has so so many fans that love him
Check out the Late Johnny Maestro who was another key voice in the 50s and 60s.
No one comes close... The greatest male vocalist EVER IN ROCK AND ROLL!!;
Absolutely...THE BEST!!!
An outstanding segment from The Mike Douglas show... Jay and the Americans were a real class act...
i wish Mike had sung with them
What a voice!!!! I was around when they were just starting & oh! what a treat to hear them again. 🥰🦋🙏
A very unique and distinct voice that no other singer could possess.
Wow ,what a beautiful voice..❤
May he RIP
Just gorgeous ❤
Nice speaking voice, too.
Incredible. What I have noticed about Jay in his live performances, his voice is so powerful that he doesn't even have to open his mouth very far.😊❤
Yes god blessed this man with a great fantastic singing voice
It was amazing, every song these guys sang was an instant hit. And each song brings me back to each of my going-steady girl friends back in the days.😢
"Is this Passover?" (4:50) Jay kills me with his stage banter he still does today. Finest yiddish Rock & Roll performers who just took American Rock and Roll in their hands with great material, style and talent.

What a voice!! My favorite song will always be cara Mia.
There’s no one on this planet passed or present that could sing Cara Mia even close to the unique powerful voice that Jay had
Singing live brilliant 1 of my favourite songs beautiful
What an awesome piece. Thankyou for sharing
TOTALLY!!! Check out Jay singing "Cara Mia" PBS like 2009 or so. Unbelievable
This is the 2011 live performance on PBS you are describing: th-cam.com/video/ffGjbaAFVpw/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the memories
We need more music 🎶 and groups like this. I just found Jay Black on Instagram and I'm hooked. I was only 10 when he was on the Mike Douglas show.
That last falsetto blast, madonn'! Thing of beauty.
With Walking in the rain, there is something so lonely and beautiful about the the background piano.
Excelente intepretacion
I have always thought the same. This is a perfectly arranged song!
Vaya voz, bellísima 🎶🎵🤩❤️❤️❤️

"actually"
Not the same lyrics or melody.
No, it's the same as the Ronettes song. You may be thinking of the Dramatics hit of (almost) the same name. @@dadbelo2096

One will never again see 4 square Jewish men as cool as Jay, Marty, Kenny and Sandy are. Magnificent.

Partridge Family w/ lead David Cassidy sang this a few yrs after. Did a good job on it to.
Beautiful ❤️
I believe Kenny Vance (The Planatones) was an original member of the band.
Enlightened my 8 year old of the original track rather than just from movie Guardians of the Galaxy. Loving it❤️
THERE FAVORITE RECORD IN MY MINDBIS "WHAT WOULD MY MARY SAY"
Jay sadly passed away in recent years,
Because of his financial situation, through gambling and tax issues, he worked for many years longer than his voice could really handle.
He had one of the best voices in pop history..
I didn't know Lou Ferrigno played the acoustic guitar!
Live vocals over the studio track
The Partridge Family covered Walking in the Rain. Weren't the Ronettes the first to record it?
yes
Did that song live in perfect pitch till he died.
The mike Douglas show !
Sings pop music like an opera singer masterfully done. I wonder if he studied opera singing.
💝💝💝
I listen to this song all the time and think about when I reach the great beyond and I meet that Angel known as Sharon Tate.
Prob musics best voice Steve Lawrence too
So this is what Carl Sagan did before he became an astronomer.
1969.
THE BLUE SCREEN TECHNIQUES HERE WERE IN THERE INFANCY HERE.
WHICH JAY IS THIS?
Great. Shame about the audio.
walking in the rain written by phil spector
The tambourine man looks so awkward. lol
He reminds me of Bobby Hart of Boyce and Hart.
Nobody ever realizes all these live shows in the 60’s the bands are lip singing there own recorded songs
Lip syncing …
my name is rich canter and I have really big teeth
SADELY JAY DIED WITHOUT A PENNY BUT HIS OWN FAULT DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND GAMBLING
all lip-sync.
What made you post this? It’s great. I’ll never forget them. Thank you very much. It makes me cry to think of it.
The Old Merv Griffin Show? Mike Douglas?
Great voice!!!
