  • This one fought me every step of the way, due to a stuck, free-spinning screw, and I wasn't actually able to service the Speedsafe mechanism. But it shows you the insides of the Link, and we still managed to help the knife out a bit.
    Here's a link to the Oso Sweet Disassembly, which shows how to service the Speedsafe: • How to disassemble and...

    And Kershaw will support this knife, while Spyderco will throw you under the bus for disassembling something less than half as complex.

    The 20CV variant of this knife is still my all time favorite knife under $100 period.
    For the price the 420HC FRN model is also hard to beat, especially for made in USA with a decent warranty behind it.

    Unfortunately I also had a similar problem. Two of my back spacer screws were free spinning and the female end of the pivot also managed to sort of bore out its hex inset in the aluminum scale so that it became free spinning as well. Kind of disappointing that this happened as I was looking forward to trying to deassist this knife. Otherwise love the ergos and the steel has held up surprisingly well.

    Yeah, mine has a free spinning screw as well. Of which I was blissfully ignorant until you pointed it out! : ) Still like the knife.

    I tried to disassemble this as well you have to push on the backspacer from inside with a good amount of force where the screw is and it will stop the opposite side from spinning

    When faced with a stuck free spinner, I generally resort to applying some heat with a heat gun. I've recently been given the advice of using a soldering iron to apply the heat more precisely.

      Also, it's interesting about the clip screws threading into the aluminum. The liners look like they are drilled for the clip screws. Maybe Kershaw decided the liners are not thick enough and opted to put the screws into the thicker scales.

    • @slidetek
      @slidetek 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or, they used to use the liner in earlier models and for some reason opted not to moving on. Can't believe it was just to save 1/32" of screw.

      had the same problem with a Ganzo knife, but at least both sides were machined so I could use another torx. I don't own any Kershaw knives. Just one more reason not to when a $17.00 knife is better made than a Kersaw.

      Barry B you don't do enough research sorry that you are missing out on some serious knives. Oh by the way if you buy ZT you should sell them because they are Kershaw knives just with less focus on affordability.

    Hey nick, I'm torn between the Spyderco paramilitary 2 s30v and s110v. i own a few s30v knives and i am wondering how much more difficult it is to bring an s110v blade to shaving sharp from dull?

    Does anyone have any recommendations for a clip point or drop point, blade style folder/flipping knife with a blade around 4" and around the 200$ range? Any Recommendations would help, thanks in advance.

    Another trick is superglue. Tiny dab on the smooth side and attach something to hold onto (Square headed bit worked for me). Acetone for easy cleanup.

    Hey Nick. What are your thoughts on milling that Glass-Filled Nylon Handle to fit in a neodymium magnet, with the purpose of de-assisting it while making the detent stronger?

    Unfortunately, the detent is missing from most speedsafe Kershaws. It's actually my biggest issue with the mechanism: if it breaks, your knife is non-functional.

    • @bradleyh8044
      @bradleyh8044 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PkwyDrive13 it has the ball, but no track or divot for the detent to fall into, meaning that it doesn't stay closed as well and doesn't flip like a knife with a "full" detent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what Nick pointed out in the disassembly, is it not?

    • @bradleyh8044
      @bradleyh8044 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PkwyDrive13 That's sooo wierd. my old cryo and another assisted Kershaw have only the detent ball as well. Is this a QC issue then?

    • @jtscustomcutlery317
      @jtscustomcutlery317 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PkwyDrive13 I have the blackwash gfn handled one and tried to deassist it and the blade would just fall out and centering was way off. I tried everything I could think of to correct it to no avail 😩 So now I just deal with the speedsafe 😪
