    My link started to rattle after 2 weeks as well. Yes it sucks!!! I paid 40 bucks and expect No maintenance or problems from this knife. I also not a big fan of spring assistance knives.

      Should come with extra torsion bars

    Metal in the spring probably isn’t going to be terribly consistent because it’s inexpensively manufactured, so it likely cracks early in its life on occasion. Swapping them out isn’t terrible difficult, but if Kershaw/Kai wasn’t a big company - this would be a major issue for me as you never know if you can get parts in the future.

    • @bbridges100
      @bbridges100  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cujobob No it’s not difficult at all. I knew Kershaw would take care of it (in fact they sent a few new springs), but it’s still frustrating that every time you open your knife you wonder if the torsion bar is going to break.

    I just bought a couple of these knives. I prefer non-assisted knives, but the Kershaw Link looks nice. Earlier today, the House of Blade exclusive S35VN version arrived. One of the scale screws turns freely, so it looks like it was overtightened in the factory. Hopefully, that will get resolved on Monday. I have heard of the torsion bars breaking on these assisted knives. Maybe it is worth keeping spare parts, or ship with an extra.

      @bbridges100  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott G That sucks that one of your scale screws is messed up! You should probably send it back to HOB. If you contact Kershaw and ask them for a couple torsion bars they will send you some.

      I will when they open on Monday. I have heard Kershaw support is good, especially with those broken torsion bars.

    • @bbridges100
      @bbridges100  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott G Yeah, unfortunately you're going to break them eventually...it's only a matter of time. Luckily Kershaw has very good customer support.

    • @ScottieG59
      @ScottieG59 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that other versions of the Link have torx heads on both sides of the scales, but the HOB version does not. I wonder if the female side is a cap over the screw head. I do not think the liners are keyed like Spyderco Knives, so the lack of a torx head looks odd.

    • @bbridges100
      @bbridges100  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott G There are only torx screws on one side...the other side is all female posts

    I've carried the Cryo for a few years now. There were quite a few reports of broken torsion bars in them, but mine is still going strong after daily use. I'll also be getting my new Kershaw Link with the blue scales and black washed blade in just a couple days when the mailman drops it off.

    Why they don't just drill every speedsafe like they did the Blur, then you would have an option, and it would be an awesome selling point instead of a weakness. A "modular opening" system. Everything else is going modular, I.e. Hinderer 3 way pivot system...why would this be any different?

    • @bbridges100
      @bbridges100  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian McCord I agree. I loved my Blur de assisted!

    • @Baby4HeadAutographer
      @Baby4HeadAutographer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bridges Cutlery it's a solid platform with buttery smooth manual action. Happy hunting, and ask Kershaw to send you a 5 pack of torsion bars.

    Looks like the body screws arent free spinning anymore? I know the link last model has free spinning screws

  • @Baby4HeadAutographer
    @Baby4HeadAutographer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my experience, with fidget use, this will happen about every two weeks. No where near the 10,000 openings advertised...I get more flicks out of a Bic. This has happened on EVERY speedsafe I have owned, which I believe to be over 10 now.

    I have the link, and man I just want to say it is an awesome knife. I've edc the shit out of it. I have alot of Kershaws they are awesome knives. I just recently deassisted my Blur and I'm happy I did. In mho It is way better a manual than with the speed safe. Was it Not able to be used as a manual?? Great info keep up the great work.

      Gary Allen Thank you for watching. Unfortunately no, there was absolutely no detent when de assisted. I agree with you about the Blur; I much prefer it de assisted.

    The video would have been much better if you had shut the door. The road noise was very annoying. The only reason I made it to the end was to see if it would work with out the spring.

    Is there any way to lesson the power on the tortion bar???

    • @bbridges100
      @bbridges100  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Steddom It will lessen with use... I wouldn't recommend intentionally weakening the torsion bar.

    • @marksteddom6941
      @marksteddom6941 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bridges Cutlery OK, I was just wondering. Thanks.

    • @paulhughes3961
      @paulhughes3961 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way to lesson the spring tention is to carefully sand or gently grind the wire thinner towards the center between each end. But now you have made the tention bar have a softer spring but also it will be weaker.

    • @0zmosis2001
      @0zmosis2001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rob frost don't be turned away by what you just seen the Kershaw link is one of the few knives besides the Kershaw Blur that you can remove the speedsafe bar and still have a functioning knife because like the Kershaw Blur the link is drilled for a detent so you can take it out and still have resistance so you can flip the knife all the other Kershaw art drill for a detent ball but these are. much nicer knife with the speedsafe removed on the link and Kershaw Blur

    • @BigBlock632
      @BigBlock632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rob frost The only reason the tension bar broke is because he uses knives as fidget toys! Flipping the knife open & closed several hundred times a day, sure it’s going to break. Just like bending a metal coat hanger back & forth until it breaks!

  • @kevinAuman1
    @kevinAuman1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rendered useless??? Lol it still opens fine and cuts well I would assume so it is definitely not USELESS!!! Just doesn’t fly open which some would actually prefer....

    they advertise its good for 10,000 flicks. but if you call Kershaw they send you to parts for free it's no big deal. I call them just to get an extra bar.I do that sometimes when I buy a new Kershaw. and I had my link for about eight months and I have no problem with it and it's flicked a lot. glad you got it fixed/

    I’m switching to Cold Steel.

      @bbridges100  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TPHVICTIMS I have definitely had some Kershaws that were not so great, but then I’ve had some that were excellent! I’ve only had a couple of Cold Steel knives and both have been great 👍

  • @BigBlock632
    @BigBlock632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Well i hope this comment doesn’t rub you the wrong way but just sitting there and flipping the knife open and closed several thousand times just to get the satisfaction of hearing it click is not the way to take care of a knife! It’s like bending a metal coat hanger back and forth over and over until it breaks. The Assisted spring action wasn’t installed to just flip constantly. Yes the spring barb might have been faulty but still knives would last longer if they were used as cutting Instruments instead of a fidget toy! Of all people you should know that!
