@dejock70 I drive an obs volkswagen. It's an old body style. Chevy came out with the generation refered to as an obs before ford came out with their abomination 🤷♂️
I had a 98 Z71 extended cab and it was by far the best pickup truck I've ever owned. It drove great and when I sold it it had two hundred thousand miles on the odometer and it still drove great and had plenty of power.
My 04 1500, newer generation, has 240k on the 5.3 and 4L60, and still runs like new. Probably because I've only owned it for a year. Trucks tremble at the sound of my name.
I learned to drive in my dad's old 89 Ext cab Long box 4x4 with a 305 😂 He bought it in 93 and I think it was around 98 he let me borrow it to go to work at Sears Auto Center. At one point I glanced out the overhead door and saw one just like it driving away. Never gave it any thought. Came out after work to a pile of glass. They never found it.
Youre the man Mortske for taking on this age old puzzle, on camera, for the thousands of us guys who have wondered what itd take to swap these obs drivetrains around. BTW from what i hear a cab swap dont suck as much as the dash/wiring swap....
Now you're talkin Mortske!! OBS heaven. Nothing better than a Chevy square body -OR- Chevy OBS. So much better than today's rolling computers full of unnecessary gadgets and high price tag.
A lot of guys want the cranks out of those 400 sbc to use to build 383s . Cylinder heads can crack on them because the deck heights of the heads are thin plus if the steam holes get clogged in these heads they can crack from the heat . There's more & more guys building the 400 sbc that are making some really good power and torque numbers with them . I have one that i put in my 82 K10 thats in pretty good condition that i use to plow my driveway with during winter in WI but once winter is done i take the plow off of it and drive it at times during the spring summer instead of letting it sit . Just did a intake swap from the stock cast iron intake to the first model Weiand stealth aluminum high rise dual plane and a carburetor jetted for performance rather than milage and it has a noticeable gain in power and torque from the stock carburetor and intake manifold. These intakes make great hp and torque from off idle to 6,800 RPMs where the new stealth intakes drop off at a lower rpm . I bought my intake used & someone had already started doing port gasket matching on some of the intake ports which I had planned on doing which saved me some time having to do all 8 of them . The old intake manifold must have weighed 60 pounds & was marked EGR on the bottom of it and it got tossed into a hole by my rock wall fence line that the prior owner of the house next to me had someone come out late 1 night in a excavator to open up this rock wall fence line so his low end of his property would drain the water onto mine which really ticked me off . He eventually moved after a few years because I had caught him on my property trying to shoot deer without my permission and calked the law on him . So since then no problems with the new neighbor but i have been slowly putting boulders & rocks back in place and 1 old heavy assed 400 cast iron intake manifold in this hole being it isn't worth anything as far as cash value or for scrap either so it got tossed 😁.
Dang, I’ve got a 90 step side with the 5.7 that’s been at my buddies shop for a few months waiting on him to put an intake gasket on for me. Mines in absolute awesome shape. Wish he’d get it fixed for me cause I just lost reverse in my dodge 1500.. Can’t believe TH-cam NOT suggesting your videos for me anymore. I’ve got the bell clicked and everybody.. Stay blessed @Mortske !!
Duff Dog keeping the Shop running today! What a knucklebuster. Textbook video example of putting in the work it takes to handle the mountain of details the job entails. Also appreciated the car show tour over the weekend. Today was back to fundamentals of the daily nose to the grindstone effort required to keep the lights on and plenty of treats for the Mighty Duff Dog!
I don't blame you for leaving it tbi. I know a lot of people would be screaming LS swap. The real question is why since you have a running roll over that everything comes straight out straight back in. Easy peasy lemon squeezey.
You are right about the quality of "Replacement" parts, Saw three failed sending units in the same 1992 regular cab my pal owned. The Fourth one worked....Lovely old truck, Norwegian blue with silver accents... he was the third owner... eventually sold for twice what he paid for it.. pet Duff for me...
Your time lapse music sounds like a Minuteman cover band, noice, also it never fails to amaze me how people, left to their own devices, can goon stuff up...
I've never seen another auto manufacturer facelift their vehicles so incrementally as GM did in the 90s. Much like the OBS trucks where the facelift occurred over the span of three model years (94 front clip, 95 interior, 96 drivetrain), the Astro/Safari vans were the same way. I had a 1995 Astro. The front clip and side door badging was from a 96-05, whereas the interior and rear badging was from a 90-94 (though I've seen some 95 Safaris with the newer rear badging too). The only fuel injection option for 95 was central port injection, previously optional with TBI being standard on 94 and earlier. I believe the 95 CPI engine was the same as the 94s and earlier, being OBD1. From what I have read, the rear suspension went one way or the other. Some 95 owners report having the 96 and later rear steel leaf springs, whereas others (including my own van) came with the 94 and earlier single composite rear leaf in the back. It was truly a "use what you have until you run out" approach. Makes it a pain if you want to stiffen your rear suspension or lift your van. Classic GM.
Yes, I learned that when I blew up my 92 2500. I had put a ton of money into it, so I thought, "I'll get another just like it, and this will be my parts truck". I got a 98. NOTHING is the same but the taillight lenses!
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ you would think everything would switch over with no problem, yes I learned also I was so freaking wrong 😂 different engine swap in a 98 GMC suburban and learned that it was a stand-alone year, electronics for the 350 was it compatible with anything else without swapping everything. I love my 97 k3500 GMC, and even as a dumb Carpenter I figured out all the electronics and how they function in conjunction with everything else. I was hoping to see your truck running and driving today but I guess I have to wait till the next installment. Keep up the great work and thanks for entertainment and knowledge ✌️🇺🇲
One time I took a 90 Dodge 3/4 ton 2x2 with a 360 tbi/a518 trans and put it in a 85 318 2bbl/727 2x2 truck. I put the 90 rear axle/springs. Front coils/spindles in too. I'm saying all that to say that, yes swapping the wiring harness is really easy to do. Good video.
"We enjoy being miserable and you enjoy watching it." What a massive project! I personally would not have gone through the trouble but I appreciate you doing it! That'll be a fun truck when its back on the road.
That's a LOT of work for one video! Good decision walking away from that 454 "swap". You will have a reliable and fixable winter truck when all is done. Looking forward to the next episode!
If I remember correctly, there was a very short period there between the 700R4 and the 4L60E where there was a 4L60. I have a 1990 K5 Blazer with one of these. It DID use a TV cable but also used electronic speedometer connection, with a few other small changes. It was a short period of one to a few of years in existence. That might be what you had/have.
Watching You heals my soul !I see that you are well knowledged before you even begin your task . Me on the other hand just got right in there and learned after two or three or maybe even more or until I got it right , or whatever. What you condensed into two hours I could boil down into six months and still find things on the garage floor or drain . Thank you , Im now one step from eighty and know I'll be forgiven you on the other hand are a fine example of doing it right first time may the young at take note , yours is the road to follow , Take care God Bless you and yours , Stuart in Canada ..
MAN - I just HATE cliffhangers.. 😂 Just kidding, I appreciate you showing what it really takes to do swaps like this. Most creators give an "overview". Always look forward to your show and thanks for all the quality work!!
95's are the bastard year of the obs pickups! Please keep us updated on this one, maybe a second channel video. Chin looks to be getting comfortable on camera. Thanks for the great content.
Wooohooo! An amazing monday, is a mortske monday! Thanks for the upload sir! Looks like youve got your hands full with this one, the sheer amount of parts is crazy!
* Mortske ! OMG ! Granted your giving a dead puppy a second life but that is CRAZY complicated. You can't fool us. It was so stressful you had more gray hairs in the beard every scene. I made those screws holding the two sides of the HVAC together. My company had the contract for those all through the 90's. Any time you see an "M" or "H" head stamp on a fastener they came from us. Cheers Buddy 🍺🤛😎👍
97 is a gen 5 big block (but it's still a big block I guess.) i hope you still have the older style interior for it. But it does have potential for sure

Enjoyed the swap in progress. I also wouldn’t say that those of us that watch like to see you suffer. However, Ii has been said that not pain no gain. Be safe.
For the small block oil cooler delete you can use the vertical oil filter thing from an older small block and run a 1069 napa filter instead of the 1060 the 9 is shorter and clears the shaft
so cool you showed the rest of the world how the American farmer rocks it out so they can apreciate where there food comes from an how hard it is!!!! love this chanel!! mortske rules!!!! and his crew as well!!
Yes Sir Mortikus..... your misery is my pleasure 🤣🤣🤣 No, in all honesty, everything you guys do to bring us entertainment and enjoyment each week is truly appreciated! God bless! ~ Scott 💙👊🏼🙏🏼

just seen one of these for sale same color white shore bed single cab had a 305 looked pretty clean was going to add it to the collection but passed on it kinda wishing i didnt for the price it was these trucks are like a rockk

Awesome video Mortske I always enjoy these videos a lot this video was jam packed with tons of stuff to see and to see how do it the right way thank you for sharing
*Tech Tip of the Day* For cracked/damaged vacuum & low pressure hoses or connections I’ve had good luck painting them with liquid electrical tape and shrinking some heat shrink over them. Just clean the grease and oil off first and shrink it while the goop is still wet.
No such thing as an OBS Chevy, only OBS Fords. Don’t encourage that BS.
Lol. Ok then!
oh boy here we go with this BS.
Old body Style works for anything you dingus
PS I drive an OBS Chevy
@dejock70 I drive an obs volkswagen. It's an old body style. Chevy came out with the generation refered to as an obs before ford came out with their abomination 🤷♂️
Mojo is the kind of man I hope to be at his age. Sharp as hell and still energetic. He's a role model!
Dang right!
Yep! He's my hero!!!😊
OLD GUYS RULE!!!
We NEED a Mojo shirt!

Wow, thanks!
I always find better stuff than tv on youtube
Mortske, this build is rite up your alley !!! Looking forward to watching you bring this truck back to life.
Much appreciated
Have you thought about making "Mojocraft " T-shirts and hoodies? He is a great addition to your team and a great old shcool machanic!
Noted!
Mortske you give so much help to people especially people like me who can't afford college. Thank you for your valuable information.👍
Happy to hear that!
Oklahoma has become your snowbird vacation home! 😊
I wish!
2 hours of Mortske and Duff, heck ya!!!
Yep
Yeah I fast forwarded from about 38:00 to 1:30:00, and it was just right!
Duff had some good FaceTime this week he'll probably want a raise! 6 Old Guys give you 👍 this week!
More chin good to see him in videos !
Really enjoy this channel. So much better than anything you could find on tv.

So much work - really admire you you just jump in and get wrenching. And cleaning out. And exploring '90-'95 differences. Good times.
Thanks 👍

Love My Duff Dog bobble head one of my favorite Mortske Purchases. Love my Monday Mortske vids.
Appreciate it
Thanks, Mortske. You always make my Mondays better, in spite of what what my boss says. 😁
My pleasure!
Let's go fast like DD speed shop 🤔🏁💯🔥💡
What a project Mortske.. You are a brave soul to dive into this deal.
I don't blame you for leaving it tbi. I know a lot of people would be screaming LS swap. The real question is why since you have a running roll over that everything comes straight out straight back in. Easy peasy lemon squeezey.
Especially since tbi's are everywhere and no one really wants them. I've got 3 or 4 2wd complete 90-94 tbi trucks 😂
What a mess
Two of the most heartwarming things - Mojo’s chuckle and The Duff Dog’s bionic tail wag - made my day!
Glad to hear it
The first car I can ever remember working-on was a ford F100 in 1975, I were 7 years old..lol...good and bad memories...lol...!

2x2 would be a motorcyle. I believe you meant 4x2.
You are correct. I had a brain fart,plus I'm not a smart man😂
Hey Mortske I love that pickup, good choice hey Mr. Duff ,❤LoveJim J&R mobile service and God Bless Y'all and your critters

Monday morning excitement with Sir Mortske😊
I figure the least I can do for you who entertains me with your excellent content is answer your origin of sayings questions.
love that truck! I miss my 01 swb 5spd 4wd v8, traded in on 05 2500hd crew cab 4wd 6.0.
Rally around the family with a HVAC full of shells...
Can’t believe how good this is. You’ve really mastered this art.
go away bot
Goofy ahh bot
unironically good bot comment
Duff sure loves his dad. Nothing like a dog to make your day better

Thanks, you too!
Mortske Monday!!! Eff yes!!! I’m sure it will be a mess but who doesn’t love a big block right?
Another epic adventure from the #1 team. This channel never fails, I love it!
Wooohooo! An amazing monday, is a mortske monday! Thanks for the upload sir! Looks like youve got your hands full with this one, the sheer amount of parts is crazy!
Hope you enjoyed it!
This is just what I need on this dreaded Monday the 13th!!!😊
Nice swap, the truck was a typical stalled project on FB marketplace! Will be a great driver when done. Thanks Mortske!!
You bet!
You can just hear all the feathers ruffle when you said throttle body
* Mortske ! OMG ! Granted your giving a dead puppy a second life but that is CRAZY complicated. You can't fool us. It was so stressful you had more gray hairs in the beard every scene. Thanks for sharing
@@MortskeRepairWow that was fast ! You using AI now ?!!
You're almost done another 4 or 5 months, and you will be there. Nice going, Mort
I hope not
That 4 bolt Main would be a good candidate for that blower
Exactly
97 is a gen 5 big block (but it's still a big block I guess.) i hope you still have the older style interior for it. But it does have potential for sure
Great Video 👍 I hope you don't make us wait to long for the Finish up video, Duff Dog 🐕 looks so Handsome.
Thanks 👍
Hey Mortske 👋, great video. The rebuild is looking good. Can't wait to hear it running. Have a great week!
Thanks 👍
I had 993 heads on my 87 Silverado I had in the late 90's, good flowng heads, just not good if you're going for higher compression. I really wish I had that truck back.
Somebody else's headache.. you are an amazing mechanic..
Thank you
One minute in I can see it needs door hinge bushings.....at least.
Everyone loves to knock TBI but I always had then run great and they make over sized throttle bodies too for more flow. I have an adapter to use a performance carb intake with a TBI. So there are some interesting options for them.
Just in time currently messin around with a 95 1500 w/t 4.3 vortec v6 thanks for the video
Nice!!
You did a lot of work sir! Great job on details!
Thanks a bunch!
This is gonna be a nice truck for you and Duff dog! Alway a treat to see you,Duff,Mojo and Chin. Another great video Mortske.
Thanks 👍
Thanks Mortske, really enjoyed this video! Hope you will follow up in the future as I'd love to see how it finishes out! Thanks for the entertainment, love the content! Duff rules, and Wojo & Shin are great partners!
Will do
Hi Mortski nice video 📹 and workmanship i like the Air pump action 🎬 it makes the job alot easier
It does!
Phenomenal work Mortz , Duff will love cruising in that fine rig . I feel a set of steelies with a set of 31 inch tires would be killer . Smash that like button everyone. Cheers 🇨🇦
Thank you
Back story, I thought you were gonna say you got it from a guy in South Dakota that was on Meth
Enjoyed the swap in progress. I also wouldn’t say that those of us that watch like to see you suffer. However, Ii has been said that not pain no gain.
Be safe.
Dude!!! I own 4 obs!!! They are the best at being a p/u!!! Thanks for the behind the dash scenes!!! Never knew!!!✌️
Our pleasure
Im absolutely in love with that American Legion - Lounge sign in your shop :)
Thanks
Check connecting rod make sure not bent incase it hydrauliced on that cylinder .
If putting in big cam have supplier recommend stall converter
For the small block oil cooler delete you can use the vertical oil filter thing from an older small block and run a 1069 napa filter instead of the 1060 the 9 is shorter and clears the shaft

Magic of the rollover OBS was the auto windows could be opened and closed from drivers seat. That 10/22 could pop right and left for rats in the corn bins. Right hand shooting would fill up the back, left fills up the defrost.
I always like the red interiors they always seemed to hold up better for some reason.
after getting over the shock. i started laughing. you opened the hood and i laughed out loud. than i cleaned up coffee and turned it back on.
Damn! Gotta wait another week for part 2! “DANG”! Interesting video however!
just seen one of these for sale same color white shore bed single cab had a 305 looked pretty clean was going to add it to the collection but passed on it kinda wishing i didnt for the price it was these trucks are like a rockk
Your showing the very reason why I personally like 60s model GM trucks better. Because most all parts and components swapped out much easier.
Definitely easier. No creature comforts tho
Fun fact: the 95 is a one year only dash. 94 was the old style dash. And in 96 they went to dual air bag.
And the heavy duty trucks 96 into 2000 never got air bags either
Except on one tons
That's going to be a nice rig. Thanks for saving it from the crusher.
You bet
I’m down for this! Nice beefy cam. Can’t wait to see the interior on the rollover.
Coming soon!
Mortske enjoyed the vid , love watching you live life on hard mode . I know you and Duff will be ridin this truck to get some ditch chickens, and in a different vid you talk about hub caps and how you used to know all of them..... remember your brain is like a hard drive , you only have so much space in it and if you put something new in it you might be writing over something you had. Thanks again for the vid have fun.
Thanks 👍
I think that rig is going to be rrreally nice, when she’s finished! Kinda hard to see it a snow storm though! Thanks for the content!
You bet
Awesome video Mortske I always enjoy these videos a lot this video was jam packed with tons of stuff to see and to see how do it the right way thank you for sharing
Glad you like them!

*Tech Tip of the Day*
For cracked/damaged vacuum & low pressure hoses or connections I’ve had good luck painting them with liquid electrical tape and shrinking some heat shrink over them. Just clean the grease and oil off first and shrink it while the goop is still wet.
Great tip!
Great video, Mortske
