Hey, your tutorials are amazing! Thanks. A little tip about the algorithm: you should put a number in your title and organize the videos in a playlist, so youtube recommends one video after another. For example: I watched the first lesson, but had to look for this second one. This can be easily resolved if you number your titles ("lesson 1", "lesson 2"), so the website itself will recommend it to your subscribers.
Thank you for this video! It was helpfull for me. Im also using Thrustmaster joystick like you have, i just have model with separate throttle (T.16000M FCS). I assigned collective to that throttle axis, and also i assigned helicopter throttle to that little slider on bottom of my joystick. Some of people here suggested you should do new helicopter profile from scratch, but i think the way you did by deleting unnecessary axes or buttons was better. And i also did this way following your tutorial.
WOW!! Changing the controls actually totally changed the experience xD Honestly, I didn't know that you had to do this... Just got into a helicopter once, found it to be uncontrollable (with the unchanged control setup) and never came back to helis since then^^ Thanks a lot! :-)
I had issues with heli spinning out of control.. tried the legacy to modern, same result... Watched this video and set up my controls, but still had same issue, then I changed back to legacy mode with all sliders up and viola, now works Set up controls (if joystick) with this video and if still having control issues, set to legacy mode with all sliders full. This FINALLY worked for me and I hope this helps anyone still dealing with this
Glad to know its not my extreme 3D pro. Worth pointing out that it worked plug and play with X-plane 11 helicopters, can hover and control the R44 no problem, no adjustments other than calibration to do. Can get about a foot off the ground before it gets away in MS2020, if use assistance on tailrotor and cyclic it starts oscillating until a crash
Thanks for this outstanding video. What a world of difference setting up the proper terminology with the right control commands! I had everything working with the inputs That I set-up but now that the proper commands are set up to the correct controls the heli is performing outstanding. Too bad Microsoft did not do the same thing for it's users.
Hi Helicopter fans! I discovered what was "key" to my getting my choppers to work proper, instead of porposing up and down like a drunk! When I set up the flight I choose my chopper, then livery, then I discovered at the bottom was another listing, forgot right now but in there it has 3 sliders. I moved mine to 60plus and wow, I can fly now without looking like a tard. Finally, because Ive had my Cowansimulation MD500e sitting in the hangar for a year now. SO, hope that helps another frustrated chopper pilot who had problems making them work. Oh, and I set the in cockpit cyclic trim to 0 or a bit down, forward. All good, cheers!
Just a small tip on control set from scratch. I find it saves time by selecting new instead of copying the default mapping. You wont need to remove all the old mapping.
No matter what I do, my flight model on the helicopters is completely bugged. As soon as I lift off the ground its starts rocking left to right and up and down. Even on easy with all the assists I cannot control it. Tried everything, (both modern and legacy), all controls rebinded with all assists on and off.. nothing works... All I have to do now is reinstall the game...
Don't reinstall. It won't solve anything so I hope I'm not too late with that. Are you using a controller or joystick/other hardware? The controller set up is bugged on the throttle/collective and it's all over the official MSFS forums. Joystick users don't appear to have this problem, or it's nowhere near as serious and can be fixed.
@@Elwaves2925 Actually the reinstall in another location did the trick for me. They are flying like it supposed to now. There is another solution though: You need to switch to legacy flight model, spawn a chopper then end the flight and switch back to modern. After that it should fly properly. And I use a Joystick, t.flight.hotas. Anyway, buggy anniversary release....
@@gmlviper Oh okay that's good news for you. I reinstalled everything to it's own SSD for the Canada update, so I'm not doing that again so soon. 😁 Yeah switching to Legacy works for joysticks etc, they seem to have a few workarounds. It's controllers that are having the most issues with the collective/throttle being bugged. I'll try it but won't be holding my breath.
exact same issue I have. Did you resolve the issue? I have other machine for testing, works great on the other machine, but this main MSFS PC doesn't like the helicopter.
I love your videos very helpful. My question I am struggling with is I have a x52 pro hotas I got all the bindings like you go over in this video and one day the 222b is as easy as driving a car, but then the next day the slightest touch on the causes it to circle erractically and start rotating backwards. I suppose deleting the hotas and reconfiguring is an option, but is there another way? Any help will be appreciated
It is just so annoying that the one really important and basic thing to get right (setting up your joysticks and other flight hardware) so you can interact with the program at the most basic level seems so clunky and with issues on Day One in what otherwise is a great release. Some companies make setting up your hardware an absolute delight - so intuitive you can do it in five minutes and don’t need to go searching all over the internet to find out how to do it. Nope that's not the Microsoft way - just got used to Windows 10 operating system ? Here let's change all that for you in 11 because we can !!!
Great video. I thought you explained the control set up well. Just wondering what did you use for throttle control? In other videos they recommend using the propeller axis. Thanks.
Need help setting up the heli throttle. Helicopters DO have throttles. And they are necessary for important flight maneuvers such as autorotations. The collective will increase the throttle because of the Correlator (that links the collective to the throttle), and the RPM is also governed by the Governor. Helicopters have a twist-grip throttle on their Collective lever (twin-engine helis have 2 on there). You use the twist grip throttle to override the Governor, or you override the correlator when doing autos, etc. So in order to Fly the MSFS Simulator like a real helicopter, you need to have one binding/setting for the Collective and a different one for the twist-grip Throttle. This should be possible as you can click the twistgrip with the mouse and move it, but I can't figure out how to set up the Control Options to be used with the MaxFlightStick, helicopter Control system (that has a realistic collective lever with twist-throttle).
I agree this is needed for a more advanced use, this video is really an intro to helicopters for beginners... I will try to make one for this kind of usage. I managed to setup the control for throttle for one of my flightsticks but I am not familiar with MaxFlightStick...
For game constantly disconnecting online service. I opened the xbox game bar on PC and completely signed out of the service and my disconnect issues stopped altogether. I am running MSFS on steam. Try that for anyone having an issue.
Very useful. You got a new subscriber! Nearly 3 AM in London! I also have the T16000. I think it the buttons numbers are different, it is because you have the joystick set for left handed. There is a switch under the T16000.
Super Thanx for your video. I have a Puma X cyclic, and I believe, I have too much travel in the cyclic stick. How can I get it so I can make small adjustments/travel please?
I didn't change anything from my default flying setup, and my helicopters fly fine! I'm using 3 different controllers also, stick, throttles from yolk, and pedals from wheel. I watched this video to see if the new controls make any difference. I can't see why i would change anything! Maybe I'm missing something?
I'm confused. I don't have Collective bound to anything but I have Throttle bound to the throttle slider on my joystick and yet moving that slider raises and lowers the collective (and doesn't move the throttle, the governor takes care of that). It works fine but it doesn't make sense to me. Love the airport btw! Where is it? Thanks for the video!
Same. In my experience, the "throttle" in control settings also control collective while it seems "prop pitch" controls throttle (twist grip on the Cabria at least). Also, for me it works just fine to have controls mapped to "ailerons" and "elevators". I didn't need to map to the new "cyclic" axis. Same with pedals. they work just fine being mapped to "rudder". I wonder why they've added all these new helicopter specific controls, and then let the helicopters work on either.
@@Antares2 Probably for just a little bit of extra flexibility for people with multiple hardware configurations. For example, if you had a physical collective lever set up on a rig that also has a HOTAS connected to it, you’d probably want it to use a separate axis than your other throttle.
I lift off and just go everywhere can't control it at all have all assists on for easy flying but it doesn't make a difference. I'm on pc with an Xbox controller just fyi
when you said your joystick buttons were opposite it may be because the switch on the bottom side of the base of yhe joystick is flipped for the wrong hand. this may also be intended and you might already know in which case this comment is pointless
Unfortunately you made everything sound a lot more complicated by just cloning your original settings and then having to delete a lot of your old irrelevant settings to change them into the ones you wanted. Would have been much simpler and safer to have started completely from scratch and let everyone know just which axes/buttons they need to set up for helicopter flight. But thanks for the video.
I thought about that option, but usually people have a lot of button mappings saved on their profiles and those would be lost if you create from scratch... this is why I went the duplicate way...
I'm going to stick with your whole tutorial set because I like your style. But I think your joystick trim assignment section was confusing. Telling us the left/right reverse buttons of the button assignments you want us to assign was hard to follow. Especially because you aren't consistent in the left/right reversal pattern. But I replayed it a few times and got it right. However to me (who has never tried flying helis) your trim assignments were not intuitive. In the center column of the joystick pad you assign the top button to trim backwards and the bottom button to trim forwards. I reversed those assignments. Then you use the right two buttons to trim right (top key) and left (bottom key). Instead I moved left trim to the lower left key and right trim to the lower right key. Laying these four trim keys out in the direction I want to move is much more intuitive to me. Otherwise, I'm excited to keep learning this new type of aircraft from you. Thank you.
It's confusing. Would have been nice, if you had a camera pointing towards your hardware. Hard to follow and the names confusing as well, so many axes here and there
you think you helped a few people but you explained poorly to many that has the aptitude of definition to the bindings which your referring. that being said you would be perfect on Asoboze team

Coming from flying planes in the sim playing with the helicopters definitely feels like a fine balancing act with your balancing your airspeed and VS
