- Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th anniversary update comes with helicopters. This is a tutorial on how to learn to fly helicopters from beginner to professional, on PC and Xbox.

Like man people, I have enjoyed helicopters with AirlandFS in MSFS for quite a while, thank you so much! Glad to hear your are planning to continue working on AirlandFS. But it is also great to have native helicopters in MSFS, and I have to say that I really like the new Asobo Cabri G2. Looking forward to further tutorials on the finer points of helicopter flying :)
😁 Thank You! Relatively new to Flight Sim with no PC gaming experiences. To date this is best, clear & concise instructional video I've viewed. There was no assumption of prior knowledge/experience. What was done was clearly illustrated. None of the "press here" where if "press here" is hidden or so fast that it couldn't be seen.
No frustration. Looking forward to future lessons.
Appreciate the work you have done for the community with AirLandFS. While it isn't something I like personally, your work is still appreciated for the community at large. With native support I very much hope helicopters will be updated to make the use of it optional so they can be used natively or with an addon if desired.

I'm absolutely beside myself with excitement. I bought the flight simulator only for the helicopters. I never payed attention to flight simulators before, but recently got interested in space simulators (I like Flight of Nova) and used to fly drones, so when I saw that there would be helicopters right when I would have a controller with good sticks, I decided I would try the helicopters in the microsoft flight simulator. I haven't tried yet but it looks actually fairly easy to try it out once I figure out how to use the game. Awesome little tutorial! Thank you!
If you like helicopters, I can also recommend DCS (Digital Combat Simulator).
It's combat oriented, but it's no problem to fly just for the flying. I mostly do.
And it works well in multiplayer as well. The UH-1, Mi-8, Ah-64 and Mi-24 are all quite interesting to fly. The Gazelle feels weird, but apparently the real heli is like this as well, at least to some degree.
Worth checking out at least. Base game is free, you only pay for addons (planes/helis and terrains) and there are often sales.
@@Antares2 I've seen it come up when I started looking around at helicopter simulators but I don't know anything about simulators so don't know what to make of the various options. I will look at it again but start with the microsoft one since I already have it set up.
Just want to say thank you for this awesome content. I am a complete noob but not only could I follow the video but it got me very excited about things to learn and challenges to overcome.

Help when I try fly forward the helicopter keeps stalling up then goes forward again then that repeats

Interesting..... I was flying twin engine aircraft and Helicopters (R22 and R44) for more then 20 years, my son is a Chinook helicopter Pilot at the Militairy. We are not able to fly these helicopters in MSFS. Tried to differ the settings and it is not possible to even hover...lifting the helicopter we have to push the rudder control to stop the turning effect of the helicopter wich is realistic, but the moment we are in the hover the helicopter banks left and right and we fall over to the ground. It is not possible to push the cyclic to the front to gain some forward speed and stabilize. When i see some people in TH-cam flying the helicopters, it looks quite stable...not here !
Might’ve been a control setup issue, you need to ensure that your controller is set to helicopter controls. Just a thought, might not be the actual issue.

Thank you for you video. I am wondering about "sensitivity settings" for my joystick, which is a logitech, similar to yours. May you possibly make a video for that subject, if you have made changes to your settings? I am having difficulty maintaining level flight with the Bell 407, it appears to pitch up if I do not maintain forward pressure on cyclic and it over compensates?

Ok Fred, loved your work whit the intregation of helis in msfs, but now it's the outher side around, you have to learn to adept to the msfs fm, and i really hope you will do so.
You do know there are dedicated axis and other controls regarding helicopters now, like governor toggle, rotor trim, cyclic axels, collective. Axels and so on..
In VR it's an absolute treat.

Has anyone been able to get vortex ring state? I've disabled the two assists (pedals and cyclic) ofcourse, but that shouldn't affect physics.
Is there some secret, hidden realism setting that make vortex ring state (and other helicopter related aerodynamics) a thing?
are they compatible with HOTAS set ups cuz i cant get any of my helis to work. the cabri looses power instantly the bell just keeps flipping upside down

i have a bug i believe with the helicopter i lift off and it just starts throwing me around in an insane fashion. its literally uncontrollable

Got excited about more heli support in MSFS - your R44 is a delight to fly. Sadly though I can't hover in either easy or hard mode. Even in easy mode the helicopter oscillates wildly before tipping onto it's side. There must be some other setting that isn't correct for me.
This is my experience as well. The second the skids come off the ground it acts like a swinging bucket and tips over. I feel like there is something in my setup causing this.
@@IvanSkyFlight The same here...:/ I also suspect some setting of mine is causing this, but I can't figure out what is it. I have spent hours by searching and trying but to no avail...:(
I am experiencing the same issue. Further, in my case the helicopter only starts lifting when the collective is past 50%: up to that point it does nothing (no matter how delicately I increase it), and then it starts doing what you're describing.
@@IvanSkyFlight Well, I made it...:) I reset all settings to factory settings and it works now. Now I just have to adapt everything again to me...:)

I was looking for a Video on how to setup all new Josytick seting for Helli there is a bunch of new one i have a X56 hotas was working fine before Aniversary update but sesm that i have to setup more but i have no problem flying it usualy :)

There is a error in this video. You need to assign an axis to “helicopter Collective” in addition to throttle.

Do the MSFS helicopters have a trimmer switch for the cyclic ?
I haven't found any, but you can map a trim hat to work similarly to a fixed wing (or like you can do with DCS Mi-24 Hind). Those trim controls are called "Rotor "something" trim"
@@Antares2 yes I found those i didn’t realize they work like the Hind trim I’ll try that. I think people like me with twist stick for yaw instead of pedals are really going to struggle unless we use tail rotor assist. Trying to correct for yaw while twisting your wrist and controlling cyclic doesn’t work very well flying for a long period of time. Also I do come from DCS and was really hoping for similar trimmer options for MSFS
@@MegaDieseldriver yes I hope they make a similar trim system to DCS with optional rudder trim. It works really well for me

Same every time with me too. No matter what copter I try to fly. Just out of control!

Not retired at all, just very busy last weekend, I am also working on a new helicopter (free) for all, the series will continue this weekend !

Thanks for the video. Curious why you are mapping a plane control configuration when they provide a helicopter control profile for the T16000M, which maps the actual helicopter controls?

This thing is possible with a controller..... But the other helicopter is not possible or i am dumb... Not possible without help in the control menu. I am a casual player, not a simmer. i hope nobody saw me on this server, must have looked terrible lol
Agree, I have had some practice with the HPG H145 and I could control the Cabri but could not control the Bell, with a gamepad.

Looks Helicopter is easy flying than Airplane. My boyfriend was pilot in the Military and commercial airplane. He said Helicopter is difficult flying.

Just sit down, relax and try again.... it takes time and practice !
All i can say is i'm not being chased by a T Rex in Jurassic Park cause i would be caught and flattened as i sill can't fly these choppers properly.
Load DCS "free" if you don't have it, buy their Huey.
Or learn like I did rw and get a plate with a small ball "marble" and practice keeping it centered on the plate.
