I feel for you and your 2 responders. I suffered from chronic and severe fecal breath from my mid 20s until about 3 years ago. I’m now 75, so I suffered with this for about 50 years.
Mouthwashes and chewing gum were quick and very temporary coverups, usually lasting a few minutes.
I did acquire chlorhexadine gluconate 0.12% mouthwash by Rx from my periodontist as beforehand prep for dental surgery, and I found chlorhexadine to be effective for about an hour or so, but it’s unfortunately not appropriate for continuous daily use, and if overused will darken your teeth and increase calculus buildup.
Yes, my breath improved somewhat after periodontal treatment of gum disease. The infections between the teeth were a major source of malodor, but I still had major bad breath.
I’m going to assume you’ve had all your gum issues, if any, checked out by a periodontist, yes?
One thing I noticed throughout my tribulations was a substantial whitish biofilm on my tongue. I’ve seen worse in photos, but it was substantial. Brushing and scraping my tongue helped a bit, but not a lot.
About 2020 I joined a bad breath facebook private group, and through the group made contact with a DDS practicing in Scarborough, Ontario.
I consulted with him over Zoom, and he recommended an antibiotic/antifungal mouthwash for 10 days, followed by chlorhexadine mouthwash for 10 days, plus an antibiotic ointment to put on my gums, some curved dental picks to work the ointment into the dental interstices.
Dr Jim Hyland developed a patented treatment, trade name OraVital, and licensed it to DDS practitioners throughout North America. Eventually I took the treatment through a local DDS in my local area, and results were very good. It cost me about $800 CDN.
Full disclosure, I don’t believe in cure-alls or cure-all claims. Every case is different. I still do have occasional bad breath, but not nearly of the frequency or intensity I previously suffered.
Yes, I practice rigorous daily oral hygiene, including use of dental floss and a water flosser, electric toothbrush, tongue brushing and scraping. My tongue isn’t bright pink, as some photos Ive seen, but it’s a lot more pink than before!
      Good luck to you!
