Hey Evan, can u post a video of u sanding wheels that are on the truck and then following up with a polish ?? That would be so helpful and appreciated !!
I would love to but I have never sanded a wheel on a truck other than just the lips. The only way to properly sand a wheel or specifically the back wall of the wheel is to pull the wheel off the truck. If the wheel can't come off I don't do it. Better to do it right than to half ass it. But just my opinion. I do have videos where we sand just the lips of the wheels. Let me know if that helps. If not I will try to help you out the best I can.
Just purchased some items from your store. Up here in N. Idaho, near the Canadian border we still have 3 - 4 months of snow and Winter outside. Appreciate all your videos!!!
I've managed to get so good results using sandpaper and mothers metal polish. I've polished plenty of knives before, but new to aluminum. Did a test area on the back panel of my tool/utility box on my company rig, was heavily oxidized and pitted. Now I can see my reflection in it, but still pitted. Not too worried about perfection, it's a work truck and I haul glass so it gets dirty quick. But it's certainly looking better, bit by bit. Just gonna take some elbow grease and time to get it all done eventually. I have a drill so I stopped by harbor freight and grabbed some Scotch Brite style balls 240/400/600 for quick surface cleaning. Then used WD40 + sandpaper 800/1500/2000 and wiped it clean between each grit change. Then finished off with a dinky buffing wheel on my drill and Mothers. All stuff thats easy to aquire at hardware or auto parts stores. Ordering online is a pain as I'm usually only home once every 8-12 weeks lol. I may order some more sandpaper though. On knives I'd sand all the way up to 8000 grit then swap to compounds for a mirror polish. Pretty easy on large flat surfaces like boxes, tanks, or dot bumpers. Diamond plate isn't too bad, but tread plate with the holes is a pain. Thankfully the truck I'm in currently is brand new, so toolbox aside all the other aluminum bits on my rig are nice and fresh, no sanding needed. At least aluminum polishes way faster than high carbon heat treated steel lol.😅
On small parts I would imagine this isn't a huge issue but using a drill and mothers on a large piece like this would likely take hours. This video only took minutes and offered a quick and cost effective option. Appreciate the comment and the alternate options. As I have said in many videos before. There are 1,000 different ways to polish and none of them are wrong. If you start with dull and achieve some level of shine then by definition you have polished metal. To achieve a high level of shine or perfect mirror can be achieved in many different ways as well. Thank you for watching and commenting. Truly appreciate you.
I just discovered your channel as I am in the process of cleaning a cab over fire truck that has Alcoa wheels and a ton of diamond plate (Entire rear end, internal portions of the beaver tail, the entire top of the truck and the top of the cab) and I'm looking for some tips on cleaning diamond plate/aluminum.
I have a new pontoon boat I would like to polish the toons one or two step and then apply sharkhide. The only kits I see on your site are for stainless. I have nothing so I need a grinder too.
Evan thanks your videos are great! Is it too cold to polish aluminium at 6 degrees celcius here in Canada Toronto mothers polish is kinda working ok but the airway buffer wheels and Tripoli wax , carnauba, and white diamond not doing much change
Yes, absolutely. Most metal doesn't want to polish below 55 degrees. It is hard to get it warm enough to shine. Is it possible? Yes. Will it be tough and a pain to do?? Yes. LOL
Years ago a trucking company I had driven for hired a man that polished wheels and tanks on the fleet after winter was over and he would wash the wheels with acid first to get the winter salt pitting clean then machine polish everything. Then until the next winter all we drivers had to die was go over the aluminum once a week with a hand wheel polish. I’ve only seen a couple of your videos and noticed you don’t use acid
Hey another great video. Your pops reminded me of something to ask you that I had forgotten to bring up while I was out there . And that I s the golf tournament. Is it full or can and how do I register? Ty in advance
Very nice man…this is what I needed I am bout to buy couple them links u have just tryin to get everything together I need just to do some polish like u did
I simply do not sand diamond plate. When it is too far gone I leave it. The amount of time and materials it takes to get them back to decent and not even great doesn't outweigh the cost. So cost effective doesn't make sense and cheaper for the customer to replace and the results will be far better than what a sanded box. With that said I'm not sure there will be a how to sand diamond plate video when we never do it. I try to keep my videos more on what I think makes sense business wise also for beginners and advanced polishers.
Gotta question, bud. Somebody spray painted the aluminum (I think) rims on my wife's 05 Suburban (before she bought it). What's the best way to get it off and clean up the rims?
Hi evan .I have a question..how or what is the best way to Polish the inner part of the round holes on the steer wheels. I want to look shinny and classy .psst. But don't tell no one..I want to stand out I not a copy carter..thank you
Sorry for the late response. Our Time2Shine aluminum polish works great for those areas. Can apply and remove by hand or you can add the cone or barrel buffs to the end of a drill and work it in that way. All can be found one our site www.goshineon.com.
I'm currently out of polish but did a cut with your orange&brown; looks great. Will it be ok with just that or will it get cloudy/hazy without polish? Thanks
Hello sir .. nice work .. can u explain why i get like faded aluminum when i polish maybe i go on high rpm making it more hot or what like something gold it’s mirror but faded answer me please its an issue for me
If someone was wanting to start polishing aluminum and wanted to polish wheels and toolboxes and such things, what is a good starter kit you recommend? (Can be zephyr or renegade or even something off of your website)
I recommend my 2 step aluminum kit on goshineon.com. It is the most forgiving kit and easiest to use that I know of. Plus it is quality and will still get you a great finish.
I do quite often to be honest. Check out my how to polish fuel tank videos. I have one video with a yellow buff to color and one with a white buff to color.
I'm starting my mobile polishing business. Been polishing for about 6 years. Never heard of using a orange wheel with green rouge. Did I hear that correctly. What's the different change ups I can use instead of brown with orange/ yellow and green and white with white
It takes time and patience to develop a softer touch. Mine doesn't kick much anymore but I am in it for 21 years and got hundreds of thousands of wheels under my belt.
I searched all your videos but haven’t found what you use or what is the best way to get a mirror shine inside the wheel holes? Do you have special equipment or do it by hand?
We do it by hand or with a powerball. We do not do this very often. So I only have one wheel that even remotely touches on this subject. The holes are the most time consuming part of the job. I can polish a wheel in 6 minutes. Sanding and polishing in the holes takes 30 minutes. How does one charge $25 for a wheel and then $100 for in the holes? I'll do a video on this soon though. I'll do it next nice truck I have through the shop that needs the holes done. Most trucks we do are farm trucks and road trucks and we just don't even touch in the holes.
Hi.. I’m suscriptor. I have a problem. Because my rin becomes Black when i use the first step.? Lógicamente I’m talking about aluminum . I use polish Zephry. You could help me if I’m doing something wrong.! Thanks!!
If your aluminum is turning black when you first try cutting it leads me to believe that the aluminum is too rough and not ready for a cut. Sometimes you have to sand in order to get the aluminum to polish. So if it is instant black I think I would recommend sanding to get it smooth so that you can cut it. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
My personal belief is no but I know lots of polishers that do. To me a color is nothing without a cut. Color just turns the lights on in the room. You can't clean a room with the lights. You can hide stuff with lights but never clean.
After 21 years and hundreds of thousands of wheels I hope it looks easy. LOL If it didn't look easy then I would have needed a new career. LOL Thank you for watching and supporting. Truly appreciate that.
