  • I recently built a new website for my WordPress management company.
    The first time I built it with Elementor. Then just a day later, I built the same site, with GeneratePress & GenerateBlocks.
    In this video I'll show you how they perform, how they differ in appearance, and how easy I find each tool to use.

    Just wanted to say, Dave, what a great video. Common sense, balanced, clearly well thought through and planned beforehand, really well explained, and kept my attention from beginning to end. I can't say that about a lot of WP tutorial vids! Brilliant.

      Definitely... two options for you:
      Complete sites: generatepress.com/site-library/?ref=2607
      Patterns using their block plugin:
      generateblocks.com/library/?ref=4

    I love Generateblocks and Generatepress although I put Kadence blocks in as well

      @dave-swift  ปีที่แล้ว

      Which do you use more often?

    • @MrOliver1444
      @MrOliver1444 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dave-swift I use GP + GP. Kadence blocks I use as well for TOC + Accordions + Lottie files. GB will have accordions + pop up in feature updates. Hopefully TOC, too. I use Kadence blocks to fill the gap for now. Generateblocks has more flexability. I can do almost everything with it.
      Create testimonials, pricing tables, quote blocks... Its great, when you have made a template.

    Based on my limited experience, I’m liking the Bricks Builder so far. Built a 1 page landing page and got a near perfect 100 score in lighthouse and GTMetrix. Worst score was 97 performance score for mobile in lighthouse.
    Bricks is less mature than Oxygen but it’s built using modern code and is a lot more smooth. Bricks appears to care about web accessibility a lot more than Oxygen. A couple more major updates and I think I won’t miss Oxygen.

    • @dave-swift
      @dave-swift  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But I got a perfect score with generate press! Clearly it’s better. 😂
      From a users point of view their is a lot of good options right now. Almost too many.

      @@dave-swift I’m not knocking Gutenberg (Generatepress) in the performance department. It’s more about that Bricks is on par with Gutenberg performance.
      In my experience, I prefer non-Gutenberg builders for complex page layouts because they are just easier to work with.
      I love Oxygen because it gives me the ability to do dynamic data, conditions, etc. with ease. The drawback is the builder interface is not the most pleasant to use. You have to be attentive to build accessible websites. The developers don’t seem to implement what their users are asking for.
      Bricks is still early on in its development but it’s surprisingly mature. Within the next couple major releases, it should have most of the features I consider essential in order for me to replace Oxygen. In many instances, Bricks implements these features better than Oxygen.
      I love using the Automatic CSS framework. It’s really accelerated page development and overall layout consistency across the whole website.

    • @JohnChvatalGSTV
      @JohnChvatalGSTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kakenetit2 yes, all sites I’ve built in the past 3+ months are using Bricks. In fact, I rebuilt an Oxygen site using Bricks. High Lighthouse scores are easy to achieve. 92+ without breaking a sweat.

      @@michaelkato8999 You have to rebuild everything from scratch. If the News are build dynamically, you could transfer them with a plugin

    Unless you have some VERY basic one page design, theres no way you build a site with Elementor and score an A.. sorry Im just not believing it! With all the unnecessary bloat that Elementor loads just by default alone causes a failing grade.

    You need to try Greenshift blocks + Greenshift Theme combo. You will be surprised to find that this combo is even Faster than GeneratePress + GenerateBlocks.

      GeneratePress has been my default since making this video. Playing around with others like Bricks, but GP is still my goto.

    I wish you broke down the mobile PSI scores more by looking at scores for TBT, FCP, LCP, Speed Index, etc.

    • @dave-swift
      @dave-swift  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People get really bent out of shape about mobile PSI scores. I don't put much value on them when they're still simulated (lab data). Google doesn't either -- there is no impact on search engine visibility until the scores are based on field data.
      Lab vs. field data often have drastically different results.
      I'm not saying it doesn't matter, it just isn't as important as many hype it up to be.
