Your directions are good and very clear. So many videos on these simple topics, but they just get overly complicated. Or they are showing on an example that is hard to see, bad angles, or no dialogue. And I also think when someone is just a real pro, they can forget what was hard to figure out in the first place, and just fly past important details without explanation. You have to be a good teacher also. And you certainly are! I'll just check your channel first from now on. Lol.
This is a fantastic tutorial! I've tried carrying yarn up the sides but was left with either distortion or unsightly loops. Now I know how to prevent those. Thank you!
Wourney Cast on with one color and knit for the desired # of rows. Join the second color at the beginning of a row and knit it for the desired # of rows. See my Join New Yarn video.
When your stripes consist of more than 4 rows, you show carrying the old yarn after several rows have already been knit. If you are actually doing a striped pattern project with stripes which are more than four rows of knit each, would you use that carry technique each time you get to the side where the resting yarn resides (in other words, every second row) or is it better to only "carry" every four rows (or other number)? Not sure if my question is clear but hope it is.
i have a question, I am just wondering but when you carry it up and you are doing ribbing or something doesn't it clearly show if its a completely opposite colour?
These videos have been a huge help in getting me over my apprehension to multicolor knitting. I am getting pretty creative with my color changes now, next is fair Isle lol but not sure if I can handle more than 3 colors, have tried with issues of tangling even with bobbins. Is that normal or am I doing it wrong? Lol
you can do a simple 2 color traditional faire isle. thats what i am doing right now. i actually got some graph paper (that what i had handy at the time. ) and made my own design, and now im knitting it, using just 2 colors
Hi I'm trying to make stripes with 3 different colors of yarn and I've had to start over 4 times how would I carry the yarns up the side? I'm so confused and frustrated :(
Carry one yarn at a time up the side and carry the other colors on different rows. When a color has been resting for 4 rows, then carry it. Depending on the height of your stripes, you could be carrying one of your colors every right side row.
So I would bring up the one color that I'm going to be knitting with next right, and leaving the other one down until I need to knit with it? and thank you for the reply I appreciate it!
I love your teaching technique! I'm knitting a striped baby blanket in garter stitch with the edge stitches slipped purlwise and haven't yet been able to figure out how to carry my yarn tidily. Do you have any tips for adapting this for a slipped edge?

thank you kindly. This video makes this process very clear and easy to understand. I appreciate you taking time to create these for us.
This was clear, concise and very helpful as I work on my shawl with three colors. Thank you!

Thanks for the video - Interesting... I haven't started my project yet so this is why I have been watching your video so I can learn from you..
You are the best! THANK YOU! I only wish I'd seen this sooner! I have quite a few loops on the side of my piece.
Thanks for the excellent instruction! This really cleared up written instructions. Seeing is so much better!
Thanks! I am a a beginner knitter and I hated having to cut the yarn each time I was ready for a new color.
I used this method for the first time and it worked really well for me. My question is, how do you weave in ends when you are finished.
Thanks!
About time I learned this. Thanks!
This was really clear and helpful… thanks!
Perfectly helpful, what I needed thank you!
This is very helpful. The only thing I'm unsure of, is how do I start with the two colors?

You can carry more often but it is not necessary and each carry creates a twist which can add more bulk to the seam.
Thank you for clearing that up for me!

Sama Khalil The strands would be hidden in the seam.
Knit Purl Hunter OHHHHHH ok, thanks for the message :)
Simpliworsted. Very soft and machine washable.

omg thankyou so much i watched other videos and they just confused me!!! :) thankyouuu
what happens when your done with the carried yarn and ready to use just the main color
+Nozomiblu Dove You can weave in the carried yarn when it will no longer be used in the piece.
Excellent tuitorial!!! Knitting my first stripped baby blanket and pattern does not say what to do! Thank you!
How do you carry the yarn thew the project
Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to carry the old or resting yarn, every row instead of every four?
+Carlota Chmielewski Carrying every row would add bulk to the one side.
Knit Purl Hunter Does this method also work when you purl too?
(Just being secure)
Can this be done with multiple colors? Is the method the same?
+Michael Halenbeck Yes:)
Thanks! I learned to knit early in October, from someone I don't see very often. Your videos are easy to follow and I'd be lost without them!
+Michael Halenbeck You are too kind!
You're too helpful!
Do you have any videos about horizontal stripes?
Mattress stitch works best with stockinette.
Very clear!!! Thank you

Just work it as shown in the video. It will be fine:)
While using 2 colors do I carry the old yarn on each row or only after the 4th row.
Thank you that was very helpful
