Thanks for the video showing each way to carry the yarn up the side of the knitting project. I am using 3 colors, and this really will help my finished garment look sooooooo much better! Two thumbs up!!
This is a thorough and easy to understand tutorial. Thanks especially for giving us the printable version. Wonderul teaching resource. Please keep teaching! Good teachers are hard to find.
I googled "How to carry multiple yarns up when knitting" - this was the first result and it is EXACTLY what I needed! Methods #3 and #5 look the best for the project I'm planning and I'll test them both. (Also- is this European knitting style? I carry my yarn in the right hand but I'm fascinated by the style you're using)
Hi Erica. I'm glad that this tutorial helped you find a way to carry yarn up the side of the work :-) The knitting style I use is called Continental knitting. If you'd like to give it a try, here's a playlist that should help - th-cam.com/play/PLH_ldSndCil5p94VK60gIeKKLItaXAkU4.html Happy knitting :-)
Thank you very much for the tutorial, I am using black, light and dark gray with way 3. However, the side does not look great as there is too much contrast. Since this is a shawl, I need a way to hide the side. Do you have a suggestion?
Hello Sibel. You could hide the edge inside an applied i-cord once the shawl is finished. Here's a tutorial that explains how it works - www.10rowsaday.com/icord-edging Happy knitting :-)
Thank You for showing the 5 ways to work the yarn up the side. Your explanation was good and gave me choices in making a beautiful garment. May I ask if you can make a video and explain how to Knit and Purl the way you do. The way I do it is so slow and I really would love to learn how from you because you explain things so good. I am a big fan & follower & appreciate your videos
Thank you so much, Dana :-) You are right - it's better to know five ways to be able to choose the best option depending on the project. As for knitting and purling, I've already made two tutorials about Continental knitting (the knitting style I use). The first one explains how to cast on stitches, hold the yarn and adjust the tension - th-cam.com/video/20puwDzRklA/w-d-xo.html. The second one is about knitting, purling and binding off - th-cam.com/video/Of7HEGO5k9Q/w-d-xo.html. Happy knitting!
Thank you, Trudy :-) I didn't get a chance to make a pattern for that sweater yet. Right now I'm making a pattern for the sweater I wear in this video - th-cam.com/video/1CzwfGZrCAc/w-d-xo.html The grey sweater will be next. I'll make a short video about the pattern when it's ready. Stay tuned :-)
I’m making a rainbow afghan with 6 colors made of 6 rows each. The size will be 50” x 60” when finished. Will using technique 5 work for that many yarns?
Hi Kerry. If you choose to carry up five strands of yarn, it will look cumbersome no matter which of the methods you choose. In this case, I would rather cut the yarn each time I change the colour and use this technique - www.10rowsaday.com/weave-in - to weave in the tails as I knit. Good luck :-)
@@10rowsaday Be super proud of your accent! It's absolutely beautiful! My husband's family is Ukrainian and I regret not learning the language before his parents and grandparents passed away.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Can you use these methods of carrying yarn when you are knitting in the round?
The first method works for carrying the yarn up when you knit one or two-row stripes in the round. As to the other ways, it's better to swatch first.
YOU ARE MY HERO!
Oooh, thank you. You are so sweet :-)
Thank you for such an informative video! I feel like I can now attempt to knit with rows of color.
Knitting with different colours is so much fun. I'm happy this tutorial helped you get into that "fun territory". Good luck :-)
I adore the sweaters you wear with the slight bell sleeves. Do you have a pattern for them? Thanks so much.

Really great, thank you!
This is amazing.' Number 4 is unbelievably simple and clever, i wish i saw this earlier.
Wonderful! ;-)
It's never too late, Ivonna :-) You can always use it in your next project.
Good video also where are you from? I loveee your accent
Thank you, Anna :-) I'm Ukrainian. Accent is not something I'm super proud of, but it feels good to know that someone likes it :-) Thank you.
