- Learn a simple twist to tidy the edge of your work when carrying yarn up the sides. This technique not only looks better visually, but also helps the edge to stay as stretchy as the rest of your piece.
Check out Frank Jernigan's video:

This technique is brilliant! Thank you. Seaming that edge will be so much easier and will look neater and less bulky.
You are welcome!
Quite clever. Been knitting almost 60 years and still finding new things to learn.
I think it's amazing that there is almost always something new to learn.
This is the BEST hint to come out so far! I have started the Butterfly shawl MANY times but stopped bc of that carried yarn.. Time to try again! Thank you! 💕
Oh good, I hope this helps with your shawl. Would like to hear how it turns out!
Very helpful. Today I’ve been altering a shawl pattern and, on my trial-run piece with scrap yarn, I decided to add a few color changes. It looks just awful. The fact that I’ve never fully mastered carrying yarn up the side didn’t help. So glad I found your video.
I'm glad the video was helpful for you!
@@QuailsKnittingNest I saved your video and watched it several times, fixing it in my mind. I also reviewed Phranko’s video. I am planning to make a multi-color, striped project once I finish what I have on my needles, and am looking forward to employing this technique. ♥️
That's great. If you are able, I would like to see how it turns out.@@sharonandrews4910
Thank you so much. I have never done a project carrying the yarn and I’m starting one soon and didn’t know what to do.❤
You are welcome. I hope it goes well for you.
Best explanation and demonstration I’ve seen thanks!
You are welcome. I'm glad it was clear for you.
That is so clever! You supplied a solution to something that has vaguely worried me!
LOL, you are welcome. :)
Thanks! I was just getting ready to frog a striped shawl b/c I didn't like the way I was carrying the yarn up the side.
You are welcome!
Thats so brilliant! Thanks foe sharing!
You are welcome. So great to hear from you again, Anvita! :)
That's really nifty. Carrying yarn has been driving me crazy!
Hopefully this works well for you.
Very good! Great! To me, it's all about the finishing details!
Thank you very much!
Great technique. I saved this for future reference
Thanks. I hope it comes in handy for you one day.
A good technique to remember!
It is! :)

You're welcome!
Thank You! Great idea
You are welcome! Glad you like it.
Off to watch the Phrancko video Thanks
You are welcome!
great tip! thanks for sharing :) for how many rows do you think i can get away with carrying the yarn with this technique?
You can get away with this for many rows. If you watch Phrancko's video, he uses it to go up 13 garter ridges, which would be 26 rows or so. Since he carries up multiple rows, he alternates between carrying on the second and third stitches.
Thank you so much. This is a great technique. Thanks for showing us this. 🧶
@@Needtoknit1 you are welcome! 😊
