From an old broadcast in the 80's. Florida jazz fest? Awesome bass solo at 3:07 and sick Grover solo. Grover died in 1999 and was a big player in the jazz fest circuit in the 80's and 90's.
This is what youtube is for. Dont ever let this die out. Plz youtube staff. The world would be in a state of sadness and mourning then. Damn Washington is hot!!
Simply astounding. No one else even in his league. And Brantley on bass? Incredible. I saw Grover Washington Jr live many times and they still rank as my favorite concerts of all time. And a good man too. Loved that guy.
I envy you seeing his many performances. I wish I could have seen this live! It was fantastic! He stirred up the band and the crowd, everyone was having the time of their lives! What a phenomenal performance! Can’t say enough good things about it! Certainly one of the greatest performers lost to us! Gone way too soon!!! Miss you Grover, a great gift! RIP🙏🏾
Grover is a legend of the legends, I've listened to big band era thru jazz since 1950's. Grover played with them all and you could tell that they was honored to play with him when he was young. He never made bad song, if you think he did just listen to song again and once you get the groove, it's like WOW*** Hold a note longer than any I heard plus with the greatest soul. every time I listen to him and his band I think God for loaning him to us !!!! Frank Sullivan RIP MR. washington
Man, shoot....there's a lot of cats out there that think they are bad on the alto sax...but this performance by Grover will send most of them if not all of them (myself included) back to the wood shed. RIP Grover!
Yep, Grover is ON FIRE on this one! He was really the first cat I copped when I started playing saxophone in 1973. Now, I've listened to everybody, and he's still at the top of my list...
I want to thank my friend Mac for introducing me to Mr Magic in 1975 and all the other incomparable musicians. He used to love to eat peppermints then make the most god awful kool aid, I finally figured out why it was so sour. We laughed so at this stoner revelation. High and happy I peed koolaid in an Omaha snowstorm after getting stuck. I finally got to see and hear Grover Washington I think in 1998, he came to Albuquerque, New Mexico and his adoring fans were so blessed. It was in his twilight years but he was the light. Thank you Mac love you.
Oooh, I've never seen this one before. That brotha had some dope sick lungs on him. His breath control was legit impeccable. He to' it up near the end. Just gifted through and through. I'll always be a fan, no matter what..... #anditsstillallgood
As I am watching this video 1 day after the passing of Kobe Bryant I am almost in tears.!! 2 icons that deserved to live much longer.!!😢 RIP my brothers and Thank You.!!
Thumbs up! for you Grover Jr what amazing performance. We miss you and the band musicians that played w/ you on this last tone Let it Flow especially on the keyboards.
a musician could live an entire life without giving its own personality on his instrument. Grover succeeded to identify either soprano and tenor...and alto!!!! not human.
This is truly one of my favorite performances of Grover, he verily put body and soul in this so much so that I could feel it in my being. Just astoundingly wonderful. Will not sit still on this one!!!
The only thing that was missing in this concert was "ME!" Man I wish I could have been at this great concert! Grover threw down on that alto sax. Wow!!
Is more than one hour that i search for someone that play a good cover of let it flow or Mr Magic............... no way, i really think you are the boss Grover, i absolutely think the best. RIP MR MAGIC your music continue to live!!
That mullet belongs to Richard Lee Steaker, from Grover's old Locksmith band. That dude's playing will burn 90 percent of the guitar world! Beleeeeeedat!
stumbled into this in 2021…GW ..one of the best to ever do it…pushing his sax beyond the limits…..him and Ronnie laws in a battle would have been epic!
This man is the SOLE reason I started to play "smooth jazz" sax! Saw him perform this live in London and I was sold! I LOVE playing his stuff live! Little known fact: while he almost exclusively performed on Tenor and Soprano sax, THIS song, and his "Make Me A Memory - Sad Samba" are the 2 biggest songs of his that he played on Alto Sax!
I have the great Winelight album. What a knockout performance from this legend with a red hot band and an audience that is certainly not stitched. up . Thanks to whoever posted this video
Thanks for your comment Kellen. I don't know what it is about this performance, but it keeps me coming back and smiling! (sometimes goosebumps as well)
WOW! Grover put his heart and soul into his music. There will never be another like him but I do so wish others would try Jazz instead of hopping around stage--holding their crouch, and rhyming fowl words. Grover was so far above that
Those performers you don’t like put just as much into their craft as Mr.Washington did his. The beauty of it all is that they shared with the world and we are better for it. Blow Groover Blow!!!
Do you think that anyone had ANY doubts as to which instrument Bill Jolly plays, based on his outfit?? LOL!! Love the not so subtle message Bill! LOL!!
I saw this video in the 90"s a PBS special and said WOW. Next time Grover comes to Chicago, I'm going to the concert. And I did before he pass in 1999. One of the best Performances I've seen!! RIP
Thank you for posting this video! It quickly became one of my favorite videos on TH-cam! I've been a huge fan of Grover Washington Jr. Since I first heard him in 1971. This video captures Grover's virtuosity, charisma, the magic. Totally hooked on this video.
Just stunned at Grover's phenomenal solo deliveries. He would have to be one of only a hand full of the greatest all time human expressionists. So sad he left us so soon. But his heart attack was likely the price of his massive output and gift to us all.
this is one of the all-time jazz funk songs period Grover thanks for this one dedicated to the one & only like Dave zinkoff says the doctorrrrrrr this classic should be in the Smithsonian institute Philly izzzz in the houzze respect to the great Grover how appropriate only can do this thanks Grover my all-time jazz master rip!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody laid it down like Grover....his shit was so tight and he let everyone around him stretch it out....I wish he was still here today....alas...for I can’t figure out the music of now..
10 people need to unblock whatever is stopping them from letting it flow. That or their Celtics fans and don't like it when Dr. J beats Bird, Kevin, and the Chief. Loved the Dr. J/Andrew Toney/Mo Cheeks/Moses Malone/Bobby Jones edition of the Sixers. What a fun team to watch that is sadly underrated by today's kids who know Magic, Jordan, and Bird and believe those are the only people who made the NBA the economic engine that it is today.
When you can get the guy like the one at 7:08 out of his chair, a man who likely never danced a step in his life, you know you're good.
REAL INSTRUMENTS ALWAYS MAKES MUSIC BETTER,DON'T YOU AGREE 🖤🖤🖤
As a sax player, I agree.
Facts!!
The greatest G man to ever touch a saxophone.
This is what youtube is for. Dont ever let this die out. Plz youtube staff.

Every single person in this video is feeling the groove. Incredible. Wish I was alive then
That’s exactly one of the things I love about this video!
I was .in the time of the best music imaginable. Still loving the awesomeness at 70.
Yep, Grover is ON FIRE on this one! He was really the first cat I copped when I started playing saxophone in 1973. Now, I've listened to everybody, and he's still at the top of my list...
I still miss him. In my opinion, Grover was the Greatest Saxophone Player of All Times (GOAT). Nuff said!
I want to thank my friend Mac for introducing me to Mr Magic in 1975 and all the other incomparable musicians. Grover was the first Jazz artist that I was exposed to. There was no one like him. Still hurts my heart that he's no longer with us.
i thank God for TH-cam for I'm blessed everyday with gems such as this. I'm so inspired!
Damn pretty song turned BEAST MODE
This one is so heartwarming to me
So this is where Jazz gave birth to Rock and pop blues
I saw him in 1994. Best show I ever saw.... and I have seen MANY great performers. Truly a monster, a game-changer, an American treasure.
Over 20 years since his passing! May the lord continue to bless his soul!
Grover Washtington Jr. - the mold was broke after you my brother!

@@tannerslomko Probably? Try definitely!
Wow...this is DOPE...the great grover Washington....Lanar kern Brantley...bass solo...the guy is a Detroit beast.
The bass player drove this tune. Grover was driven to greater heights by the thumping rhythm of the bass.
Oooh, I've never seen this one before. That brotha had some dope sick lungs on him. His breath control was legit impeccable. He to' it up near the end. Just gifted through and through. I'll always be a fan, no matter what..... #anditsstillallgood

Grover is why I am a jazz fan. My intro - Mr. Magic! And indeed, Grover was and is!
Sea Chelle my intro too! King of smooth jazz!
I totally agree, he is the G.O.A.T., in my opinion!!!🏆🎷🔥🔥🔥
Thumbs up! for you Grover Jr what amazing performance. We miss you and the band musicians that played w/ you on this last tone Let it Flow especially on the keyboards.

The sax melted after that solo!
Your right brother ! 👍
Amazing........................................
I remember recording this on VHS and playing it to all my friends. Legendary. The Mona Lisa of Sax solos!!!!
VHS? Sounds great though.
a musician could live an entire life without giving its own personality on his instrument. Grover succeeded to identify either soprano and tenor...and alto!!!! not human.
I can tell that Grover Washington Jr. would call Julius 'Dr.J' Erving his friend.
Dr.J is 'The Coolest Cat' on the planet!
Grover was indeed Mister Magic. One of the best to ever do it. What a vibe. Everyone in the audience grooving and enjoying themselves.
Best sax performnace on youtube period , great song great band (The Bass player Hello !) Huge crowd , totally freekin awesome.

The guitar player's mullet is tragically awesome.
That mullet belongs to Richard Lee Steaker, from Grover's old Locksmith band. That dude's playing will burn 90 percent of the guitar world! Beleeeeeedat!
At 9:36 Grover gave a smile saying, “you feeling that ain’t ya???””
Love your playing Q, well done by all,,,,,,,,,

That rhyming fowl words stuff is for the birds lol!!!
Sweet tip of the hat to "For the Love of Money" worked into the middle of that kickin' bass solo. Love it!
RIP
Grover took the sax to places which have never before been attained. That was out of this world and into another dimension.
Best version of this song--EVER!!!!
Thank you for posting this video! It quickly became one of my favorite videos on TH-cam! I've been a huge fan of Grover Washington Jr. Since I first heard him in 1971. This video captures Grover's virtuosity, charisma, the magic. Totally hooked on this video.
Fortunate to have seen him live at the Playboy Jazz Festival - Hollywood Bowl ♡

@@kyledsullivanGOAT❤ Bass and silky flow sax😊
This song is a masterpiece; it is even better since it is lengthy.
I saw him and his band perform at the Hollywood Bowl, maybe part of the Jazz Festival. Awesome.
Had 2 shed a tear. I will be great like Grover 1 day.

Tasty reference of the O'Jays "For the Love of Money" by the bassist in his solo. That was tight !
Nobody laid it down like Grover....his shit was so tight and he let everyone around him stretch it out....I wish he was still here today....alas...for I can’t figure out the music of now..
It's seems everytime I hear Glover play. I will smile, shedding a tear. So soulful! 🥲

Anybody else has this, along with Pieces of A Dream’s “Fo Fi Fo”, bring a smile to your face & take you back to a great time in Philly sports history?
Just one of the best versions of this tune
Great Composition Forever !!!
R.I.P Grover Washington Jr, One of thee greatest of all time!
When music had love and no one and I mean no one was saying that it can't bring people together
Bass that makes you put on that "Nasty" face! One of his best performances.
mean...the band hitting on all cylinders...his sound...top of the mountain...he had it all...solo...ending...just love it...
One of the best performances I have ever seen! Try Gary Moore’s Parisienne Walkways for another! Masters of their class! I love them!
That sax should have been retired and never played again! Grover was from another world.
There was still hope in those days and Grover was putting that out there!
This is a VERY nice rendition of the tune (and, IMO, better than the studio one, which we MORE often hear on FM radio)!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INCREDIBLE.......I miss U....
Lembro do Grover Washington, Jr. tocando este tema no FREE JAZZ no Rio de Janeiro muito bom..
