Went to Kaui the first time in 1986.The day before I arrived a sponger was attacked by a tiger shark at Tunnels. My aunt who lived next door to Wilcox Hospital, where the victim was recovering, made me promise her I wouldn't surf the Northside for a few more days. Of course I drove straight to Cannons/Tunnels the next day and found 4-6 ft Outer Island perfection with hardly anyone out.
My roommate was a captain on a tour boat in west side kauai and was surfing the river mouth in Waimea but they saw a bunch of sharks (usually there but this time more than normal) and as they were leaving the parking lot, Bethany pulled in.
Just the west sides murky waters get "usually shark infested" or at least have that reputation. Tunnels is known for sharks I believe because its really far out in the ocean, and unlike Hanalei, you aren't protected so the big animals are all around. @@gabbyvillarreal1062
why u postin this cuz...notice how there's not one other video of tunnels on TH-cam..should take it down out of respect to the aina unless Bethany herself says it's pono! shoots bra mahalo 🤙
I talked to Bethany just recently and she said “I wish they would take the video off of you tube, it is so disrespectful” she said it nice, but was really disturbed of someone using her name and place for clickity clacks.
Beautiful perspective.... thanks for this!
Mahalo for posting...so beautiful 🤙🏻

Lost my good friend to tigers at Polihale. They usually don't kill though.
I read in Bethany’s first book she wrote a year after the incident that she never surfed there again.
Can't blame her

@@AuRowe that’s weird, is it usually shark-infested waters, did she even know?
