    One of my brother's friends went out at Hanalei and never came back. His body was never found. He was an extremely experienced, long time surfer. There was a big paddle out in his honor. Goodbye to Rick, "the Bud."

    Thank you for warning people.

      Yeah I don't think most people realize that when they go on vacation in winter the north shore will be a meat grinder.

    Just found your channel. Do you live on Kauai? Very much so enjoying your island content. Thank you.

    Completely off topic, but would you have any recommendations for where to pitch a tent on the island? Staying on the beach itself would be nice.
    I was thinking Anini, but curious what you think.
    Whether you reply or not, keep up the good work on the videos! Love the channel

      Your first instinct was totally correct. Anini is probably the best and safest. Then there's Poli Hali state park, but it's not as comfortable as Anini and there's not much shade there. Other camping locations tend to attract some... unfortunate activity. Though Anini is not completely untouched in that regard either. Just less of it.

      Make sure you get a permit.

      u can camp any county parks with permit, Lydgate Anini Saltpond and Anahola. Its public so theres homeless ppl killing the buzz. the state parks are better but you need a longer lead time for reservations and theyre further into the wilderness. You can also try private beach campgrounds, theres a few.
      the homeless are friendly and wont bug you but there are drug deals happening in the parking lots at night

    My best friend and I are going in early December (a few weeks shy of winter), still gunna be dangerous?

    • @RealAdventureTheory
      @RealAdventureTheory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I definitely wouldn't set my heart on getting in the water on the north shore between late October and April. But you never know. a sudden calm can certainly happen and does. In winter I'd plan on spending more time on the south shore. But you can never know for sure. And then there's hurricane season so, always be ready to adjust your day plans.

      @@RealAdventureTheory We’ll go and see anyway, if it’s too dangerous we won’t get in.

      @RealAdventureTheory Thank you for the warning. Are there any surfable beaches on Kauai that would be safe for beginners during that time of year?

    What about tunnels beach late March/early spring

    • @RealAdventureTheory
      @RealAdventureTheory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say everything on the North shore from Poli Hali, around to Ke'e and continuing down to Anahola is pretty dicy during winter and even early spring. You may have some calm times but it's a gamble. And tunnels has some pretty treacherous rip currents year round. So always have a plan B. East and south shores would be more likely to be calmer. But there's no guarantees.

    When is best month for Hanalei surf trip

    • @RealAdventureTheory
      @RealAdventureTheory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man that depends on how hard you charge it. Winter has the big swells, professional level and tow in conditions. But early spring and late fall can have good breaks.

    How is the waters in late March early april?

    • @RealAdventureTheory
      @RealAdventureTheory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hit or miss. Early spring can be a gamble. But there's always the south shore!

      That's on me. I really needed a banana for scale but it was a random spontaneous event and I was unprepared.
