- CaboVacationGet.... At the Queen's Bath, they call it "shoot the ball", but these crazy kids took it to a higher level. I don't think they were expecting to get swept out to sea in Kauai.
These boys are very good swimmers. I can tell as when the ocean pulls them out they don’t panic and try to hopelessly swim against sea but they wait and swim when not being pulled

Well, duh...but strong swimmers die doing stupid stuff like this on a fairly regular basis, (basically because they're overconfident and don't sufficiently respect the variables of how dangerous what they're doing is) so that's not really making what they're doing any less unsafe or intelligent.
I've got scars from underestimating that spot on a decent size swell. I almost got dragged out to sea and I'm a big wave surfer. I thought I was being careful so DO NOT underestimate that place!! I was on the dry part about 15 feet from the cliff (like where the filmer is in this) although it was a big swell!!

Exact same thing happened to me, scared the shit out of me.
This is a perfect illustration of a rip tide, but above water level.
The waves crash over the rocks, but since the water can't go up and back over the rock, it flows back out to sea, creating a strong current.
This happens on most beaches where there are sand bars hidden beneath the water.
Rip current, but I get your point. Rip tides are tidal in nature.
When I have been in Hawai'i, I have been struck by how many locals told me about drownings on the islands and it was mostly very strong swimmers. They were over-confident. Hell, I am a strong swimmer, scuba diver and sailor and I almost died on the North Shore of Oahu when I was boogie boarding on the second break and didn't pay attention for a moment. I lost my board, got held underwater amongst coral heads and got short of breath. There was a cross current that started sweeping me out to sea and shit got real. Luckily I hadn't lost my fins and I was able to angle myself out, but honestly it scared the ever-loving shit out of me.

kirksteel that’s very true. The north shore can be very dangerous before sunset but queens bath is 10 times more dangerous . They have s tally near it on how many people have died there but authorities haven’t secured or restricted it. Very stupid

i think it was because he followed his 2 friends when he they jumped (peer pressure) the second time around. he probably thought on the basis of his peripheral vision that they did jump again when actually they did not, but was instead actually pushed by the waves.

This is child’s play. When I was in Hawaii I not only did this, but I jumped in a volcano and swam around in the lava. I waited for an eruption that blasted me out of the volcano. Then using just the power of positive thinking was able to fly 12 miles and safely land.

I became trapped under the shelf of the Toilet Bowl on Oahu’s Hanauma Bay back in ‘84. I swirled around underneath there as the tide rushed in. Gashed my hip. The thought of jumping in was exciting but got really scary once I was choking. The Toilet Bowl was way smaller than The Queen’s Bath. Glad I made it out!!!
To be fair the kids looked like they knew what they were doing. Not the safest spot to swim, but as long as you know what you are dealing with it can be done.

I live listen 3 minutes walk from this location. If you think these children knew what they were doing you're completely wrong. Those children were completely lucky there have been countless and numerous deaths At this location Similar circumstances people getting swept off the rocks and drowning.
I love how they just left the third kid in the acts of fend off his own. He still hadn't made it up when the video ended bro he had to be tired as fuck. He was still trying to swim reached up saying give me a hand and he was like nah bro figure it out probably drowned

To the folks saying they have everything controlled and are locals and whatnot.... there's a reason for the saying "respect the sea" You never have everything controlled when it comes to the sea. Kids were lucky.

When the water is white and frothy, it is doubly difficult to swim because it provides no resistance. At the same time, there is plenty of water to make it difficult to breathe. It is very scary.
@@dianesamp9102 When the water is aerated, like it is here, it's less dense (air is less dense than water), therefore, a swimmer has less buoyancy... i was WW rafting with a friend up on the wolf river in wisconsin.... we went over a class 4 falls....he got catapulted out of the raft and was held under, then popped up just long enough to grab a fresh breath of air, only to get sucked down again..... he then popped up further downstream and was able to swim to shore..... the look of terror on his face the first time he popped up was unforgettable.... and this happened even tho he was wearing a life jacket AND a 5 mil wetsuit.....

People get a grip. If we never did anything "dangerous", we will have survived life, but not lived it. That doesn't mean do something with no thought or ability to do it, but if you have both and feel confident in both, go for it... The "third kid" by the way is my son, and this was years ago when they were teens. They had all been surfing big (20'+) waves for years, and were used to long hold downs. For them this was a mild play in the pond day. On a much bigger day they couldn't get back in, but even then just floated around the corner and swam in at Hanalei. Should someone who didn't have this kind of water experience be out there? Of course not, duh. But these three are all alive and well - intelligent and healthy - my son, now a paramedic just got back from big wave surf sesh in Oregon, another is a pro surfer, and the other is a fire fighter. Don't judge a situation by your comfort/ability level...
Dude your just dumb. Obviously your son takes up for you. It's not about swimming capabilities im sure they knew that they could get dragged out, it's the unpredictable waves that come in and out and the rocks. Be at the wrong place at the wrong time and you could get beat up really badly. I bet your son wouldn't swim pretty well unconscious.

People know what they are doing and there is that factor of someone causing an accident at no fault of your own much like a rogue wave could cause someone to lose their life, or a sky diver losing theirs, or a pedestrian crossing the street for that matter. People have died just sitting in their classrooms, were they dumb? Check the statistics and find out how many people died in the area and you will find per capita, more people die from going to school than has ever died there. Who are you to judge peoples choices? No matter what you do in life you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Your rationale and judgment of others is just plain old dumb. We all take chances in life from the moment we wake up. You can take chances being prepared for the worst and accepting it or the more stupid thing which is taking chances without being prepared. Unless you're familiar with their skills and the area you have no right to judge others much more calling them names.

+Brad S (TheBusDriver86) As an ex ocean lifeguard(when I was younger) I'm trained to spot someone panic swimming or otherwise in trouble. I never saw any signs these guys were scared/concerned or panicking.. Looked like they were just having good times.
About ten years ago I hopped into this Pool of Death with two of my sons. I had never noticed it before... The waves were coming fiercely over the outer wall and the water level was moving way up and way down at dangerous rates. We watched three hawaiian locals diving into the waves, and one was a gal, so being the genius that I am, I figured that I could do it too. Jumping in and following the locals I was quickly out and safe. Safe now to watch the Big Show. My two boys trying to get out. Reaching the outer wall and quickly grasping with all their might and then not being able to cling on as the next ferocious wave rushed over the outer wall. Watching them fall backwards into the next emptying of the pool of water. I didn't want to get in, but I knew I might have to. The white water action was crazy. Finally the waves let up a little and the boys were safely out. The whole thing probably was over within five minutes. I later learned that one of them swallowed a bit of saltwater while in the center of the storm. Haven't done it again, but it is something we will never forget.

The rest of us call it "Dangerous and Extremely Risky" behavior that has left many dead and injured. It also impacts our First Responders that have to risk their lives for those who don't respect their own.

Stay still when water is moving. Move your self when water stays still.
These kids may have been locals, may have been totally in control, knew what they were doing, etc, HOWEVER this a situation full of unpredictable variables. For example, a rogue wave here could smash them against those rocks. These kids weren't beyond their limits from a swimming standpoint, but there's not a whole lot of room for error in this situation. They clearly thought it was worth the risk, but it's not something I would do (or recommend anyone else do). A rogue wave, a muscle cramp, seizure, etc could turn this situation into a tragedy pretty quick.

You might get hit by a semi, or stabbed by a passer-by, you could get struck by lightning , stuck in a flash flood, hit in the head by a falling brick, poisoned by a restaurant burrito, you could be mauled by a circus animal, stung by killer bees there are millions of things that could kill you.

These kids jump on to a situation that is dangerous even for pro swimmers, these kind of actions are the same with kids who climb/parkour on high rise buildings without safety gears. One mistake and it could cost them their life and there have been deaths because of this kind of idiotic actions.

@@Impenneteri lol. Where are you from? Isn't there a "thing" kids do where you grew up that's really only done by local kids? We're from Hawaii, were born to the water, our mom's and dad's have us in the ocean before we can walk. We're spiritually connected to it. We know what to look for, how the set changes, the tide changes, the ebb and flow. We can feel it. We're taught timing and precise movement to flow with the water. The first rule we're taught about the ocean is 1. Watch first, read the sea, listen to the water 2. Never turn your back to the waves 3. Relax, cause panic will kill you. Historically mainly tourists die at the most "dangerous" locations cause they don't know or don't want to follow the rules. Like standing over a blow hole, and then getting sucked in and drowning. We will never do stupid shit like that cause you can't unstuck yourself from an undewater cave. These kids aren't stupid. I'm sure there are days when even those kids wouldn't just jump in and chance it. But im 100 percent positive that these boys know exactly what they're doing.

When I was in High School, we jumped at “the clam” in La Jolla, CA. Very dangerous, and now when I see it in my 40’s, I think “IDIOT”😂

i was a beach guard for 7 years and this is nothing less than idiotic. The best swimmers in the world can’t overcome the ocean if they happen to catch it at the wrong time. this was pure luck.
I always wondered how people managed to drown on their honeymoon, on a family vacation with 12 relatives, etc. This explains it all.

Visitors and locals alike drown in Kauai waters every year. Even very experienced watermen. I hear what everyone is saying about these boys being knowledgable locals but unexpected things happen-that's why their called accidents. Accidental drowning....

These guys look like older teenagers, probs 17+, could even be as old as 20 but just sort of scrawny. Not much parents can do to control lads once they're more or less physically grown, esp. when they're on holiday with mates & collectively in a #holdmybeer&watchthis mood.
That’s how we do it on Kauai. These kids have been taught since the age of 3. Queen’s Bath is just fun to do when the surf is junk
regardless of being a good swimmer or not I just wouldn't do it but what a heck of an experience for them!
They are strong swimmers. As a mother I lost my mind for a few seconds until I realized they knew what they were doing. They will have some great stories for the grandkids.

Bad idea. People may have false sense of safety by watching this. No matter how good swimmer you are, you can die there. The wave may pick you up and throw on the rock and you are done. The reverse current may also drag you into the ocean. Don't do this!

This was quite a spectacular sight. What you don't see is how rough the sea was that day, causing the severe rise & fall in the pool. Dangerous for sure for the average swimmer, but these kids seemed always in control and were having a blast. Good for them, for making video instead of watching it.
I live in the South Pacific , I know how these dangerous places are not 4 fun & games ,, you May survive having fun at times. But in time , it will come.. No Jokes. Better , go to the beach.. U will live longer.. ✌

All you have to do is watch this to see the tremendous power of the ocean. Numerous people have been swept to their deaths here. It’s not funny. These guys are lucky. It could easily end in tragedy.
My son was 12 his first time at queens bath. One of his uncles took him there. He didn't get into any danger but same thing here happen to his uncles who are locals and they just stayed calm like it was just another day in the water. They said more tourist drown here because they just don't know the waters. I get the concern and local or not you can't predict nature. Then again if you've never tested danger you've never lived.
Just know your limits and stay in your lane.

We were just there last week. This is not Queen's Bath. However, it is right next to this about another 30 yards down. Saw plenty of people jumping this gap last week too, although the tide wasn't as rough. I didn't. Looks like lots of fun, but sketchy as well.
We do this in the mountains as well, yes stupid but fun, only expert swimmers, and still risky. Its called going superman, it means going white water rafting then jumping off the raft and going solo, like youve seen in old movies but with class 5 falls.
I’m in Kauai planning to go to the Queens bath today. I wonder if these guys are still alive given their seeming lack of judgment and awareness that they were lucky to have survived this ordeal when they were teens.

Big wave surfer here, and yes, I did not think for a moment that they were in any real danger. The fact that it was so tranquil between sets when they first jumped in and knowing that the longest set isn't gonna have more than 10 waves, usually 5 max, they were easily in a position to ride it out. Besides, they could clearly swim well enough for the conditions.
Oh, the first one out was panicked. Over swimming against the flow is a sure way to tire and drown.
yeah, for the most part they timed the surges and didn't fight too hard against the current, but waited until the surge was in their favor to swim towards the edge. It's still risky of course, but it looked like they stayed calm and timed things right.

These guys must be supremely confident with their swimming ability because if that happened to me id sink to the bottom fairly quickly.
Just like "toilet bowl" on Oahu (which is technically closed to the public) - just gotta know the ocean. We used to jump into the toilet bowl all the time as kids - but so many tourists died trying is why they closed it off. Lots of places like this in the islands.

At first I thought, "So what's so crazy? They're jumping off a short cliff into a pool of water that's obviously deep enough for jumping into." Then the water level started bouncing like a freaking basketball and I thought, "Oh. Yeah, I'd have to be crazy to do that."
Please note: *_I'D_* have to be crazy to do that. These teenagers are obviously better swimmers than I am. Yeah, it had its element of risk, but it seems that it isn't anything they can't handle.

They learned the direction of the Wave around the area, they already knew that if they were carried by water to another direction where they have to swim to the edge, most importantly they had swimming skills and enough energy to go back to land again, but they still had to be alert, courage was not enough to do this kind of thing

I feel like if he drowned the video description would say, "Poor third guy didn't make it," or some such. You're right, tho, it seriously looks like they straight abandoned that guy to literally sink or swim.
Not at any stage did any of these boys panic. They look to be competent swimmers, and understand the ocean quite well. I think you are wrapping a little too much cotton wool around these kids.

These kids are in for dangerous liasons with open water... This can go 100 times good, but only takes 1 bad shot at failing badly... and quite possibly lethally.
Here is what happen to us about 15 years ago. My kids born here on east Maui could swim before walk. So when we went to Kauai my daughter Lena brought her friend Olivia and we went to Queens Bath. Of course we know all about respect the ocean and wait to check things out. After about 5>8 minutes the kids (12 years ) young went in. BOOM big surf/ wave went over the whole pool trying to such them out after. Big luck they could swim so good, other wise they would bang the rocks and outside> Pretty bad for sure. Hugs and all. we see some cloth on the other side of the pool, ask some people about it/ somebody went in before and that where his cloth/ dude dead. Left wallet/ phone and stuff/ cops got them right their. >>WE split and went for ice=cream> Lucky day for us. Very dangerous/ big pilekia!

Some people are risk takers, some not - or the risk you take isnʻt the same another will choose. Just as long as one involves only themselves ... hey!! go for it. I love swimming in the ocean. Kailua Beach is good - gentle current, soft waves ... but I still have a deep respect for it. One day I ended up tip-toeing around man-of-war on the beach. Another I dove UNDER a wave at Sandy!! I wasnʻt looking for adventure, living life provides enough. And I have other recreational activities I enjoy.
Iʻm with Kuku Loke ... With your kids - know their capabilities. Of course, freakish things can happen. Nobody wants bad things to occur, but being paranoid isnʻt the answer. I wouldnʻt want my son surfing 20ʻʻ+ waves, or swimming in Queenʻs Bath - - heʻs never been a strong swimmer but if he wants to go gliding at Dillingham Field with me Iʻm ok.
The old people lived in that area called that the Bath of the death. 23 children in early 19s are dead there. They say every 7 year the Bath has to be fed with with human soul.

So many ridiculous comments on this video, I don't even know where to start... All of you people calling these guys stupid are completely ignorant. Is the idea that someone who was born and raised on an island in the middle of the Pacific might have a better understanding of this particular situation than you do, so outlandish? As far as this being a "good way to get yourself killed," sure, it's possible, but so is getting hit by a bus on your way to work, but that doesn't stop you, and I doubt that you have as much fun at work as these guys did in this video.

Rename it "Fool's Bath". I was holding my breath and yelling for them to get OUT OF THE WATER.....the first unusually high wave would have sent me skittering home.

I'm sure most victims are tourists, but to think anyone is smarter than mother nature is just asking for trouble. Where I live we have riptides and undertows, locals and tourists drown all the time.
Do what makes you happy. As long as it doesn't put others at risk. Don't risk your life and expect others to save you when it goes tits up. If you don't care about dying then by all means do what the fuck you want. Just don't ever ask anyone for help.

The only way you get in trouble (if you can swim well) is if you hit your head or panic and exhaust yourself. These kids were never in any immediate danger

Sorry, this is much, much easier than it looks. In fact it’s pretty simple. The water acts as a reliable fluid cushion between the object ( body, raft or whatever) and the rocks. Look closer ✌🏼
I stood at this very place a week ago and watched the waves come and go, considering if this was a fun yet risky venture.
This is NOT Queens Bath. QB is 30 yards further along the walk. But this is insane and these kids are lucky to be alive. I grew up in SoCal in the waves and in life guard school, sitting in the chair my final year. I've rock dived in Santa Cruz "reading the swells" and after studying this dangerous place, it's clear that this not something to do if you want to live more than 15 mins more.
If you go to Princeville and walk down to Queens Bath, walk past THIS place to the more tranquil QB. Maybe stop to watch the turtles in the swells, but do not jump in like these stupid kids.
If anyone thinks they know swells and currents and thinks this is the place to do this, then you are a fake and haven't been to this spot.

This is actually like an open blow hole. We have one we used to ride when I was a kid growing up in Kona.
Definitely not something an inexperienced swimmer should ever do. These kids have probably been in the ocean their entire lives and can hold their breath for at least 3 minutes-and it’s STILL very dangerous for them to be doing.

Have any of you people commenting spent a moment in the ocean? Of course no one can swim against the current, but they don't drown either. They flow with the water until they see a spot where it's easy to get out. Stick to your lounge-rooms people, leave living life to people who will do just that, without fear of breaking a nail.
