On the Easter video I said that the Hajj rituals have their roots in the monotheistic tradition of Abraham. The hajj did not begin with Abraham, it began with Muhammad to commemorate the struggles of Abraham. What evolved over time (after Abraham but before Muhammad) was a general pilgrimmage to the Kaba for various reasons, pagan and other. But the monotheistic root of the Hajj has never changed. This is the difference with Valentine's day which, as the speaker asserts, has roots in paganism.

And I'm not just talking about what I hear or see, I'm a practicing Muslim (thank God) and I'm happily married. My wife and I happen to be in love, and we respect each other and we are each others' best friends. And no, this is NOT a rare exception in my community, and NO, Islam doesn't kill the romance, it just doesn't forbid it to be a tool and an excuse for of promiscuity by not allowing it outside the sacred bind of marriage.

Actually, he lives in South Africa.
And he's from Boston, converted to Islam years ago. The only contempt he has, in my opinion, is contempt for secularism, falsehood and blind-acceptance and following of so-called "holidays".

Technical correction: "if I was in a MUSLIM society it would get me in trouble!" You see, many Muslim societies claim they're following Islamic law when actually they're following something completely different. Women forbidden from driving, attending the mosque, getting an education... forbidden? Islam doesn't teach that. Don't confuse Muslim with Islam. There is a distinction. If you lived in an "Islamic" society, you'd have no problem because Islam allows freedom of speech and religion.

Only Quran says "If anyone kill a person unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land it would be as if he kill the whole humanity: and if anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the life of the whole humanity.” No books in the world has rules like that, its the rules to spread love.

    Who invented Eid-Ul-Fitr ?
When the Prophet arrived in Madinah, he found people celebrating two specific days in which they used to entertain themselves with recreation and merriment. He asked them about the nature of these festivities at which they replied that these days were occasions of fun and recreation. At this, the Prophet remarked that the Almighty has fixed two days [of festivity] instead of these for you which are better than these: Eid al-fitr and Eid al-adha

  • @hawker1010ify

Expression of feelings and emotions is not a justification for the Muslim to allocate a day for celebration based on his own thoughts and ideas, and to call it a festival, or make it like a festival or Eid. So how about when it is one of the festivals of the kuffaar? In Islam, a husband loves his wife throughout the year, and he expresses that love towards her with gifts, in verse and in prose, in letters and in other ways, throughout the years - not just on one day of the year.

Its also funny about the lupercabria, as I see it, it not only had its influence the holiday, but on modern taboo sexual practices. They don't use names much anymore, but keychains in fishbowls. I agree about Valentines day being a rediculus holiday, not only because of its colourful history; but also because its become a totally for profit holiday, same as most of the others. I mean they even have the easter bunny filling in for Santa on Easter!

and remember that victors are the writers of history, islam was never spread by violence, you can look at indonasia, the largest muslim country, Islam spread there through good impressions of the traders and merchants that traveled there for trade.

@chubs4u First of all it is about muslims and besides it is not about love. If you read the verse before you realise that this is the continuing. 2- The word love in Arabic is Hobb, hereis the world OLFAH . It says Fa Allef .This does not come close to the word love. You can hear almost in every arabic song the word habibi or ya habibi , that is love and my love.In English The word Fa Allef is translated as, unite. Which makes very sense, cus it is talikng about unitimg of muslims.

Everything that the Christians believe in has a bad startup history, as for example, the Good Friday! Valentine, Christmas, and so on...they are all bad roots, but thank Allah, (Alhamdulilah) that in Islam everything we celebrate have a great startup story that we get incoraged to celebrate it as Ramadan, Eid ulfitr, and Eid uladha, even in the Islamic new year is a good thing because we remember the day when Muhammad (PBUH) ran away from the Qurayish to Habasha that time to survive thier anger

I question my religion/beliefs all the time. And it always has answers for me. Any religion that discourages critical thinking is not a true religion. And don't tell me "look at Muslim countries & their lack of freedom". Those are people who don't know what true Islam is. And "logical" thinking... Semantics. It all depends how you define "logical". To me & the majority of people on this planet it's logical to believe in a Creator. To you it's probably illogical. Then we should agree to disagree.

And the word "Paganism" itself is Christian invention, it even doesn't mean something that bad really, "pagan" ment in Latin something like "a man from countysied", "a hillbilly", as Christianity as all religions first overtook cities while countyside was still holding to the old gods.
P.S. Looked on wiki: paganus, meaning "country dweller", "rustic"

You said nothing about his contempt for secularism. People in Iraq are not killing each other over religion despite what you see on the TV. It's about politics & control of the country. It's a civil war not a religious one. What Islamic belief would be considered blind acceptance? Everything in Islam is rooted in the Abrahamic tradition of monotheism. You may not agree with it but that doesn't mean it is without historical merit. Many non-Muslim scholars agree the Qur'an has never been altered.

No, it's just the same with all totem animals.
In old times many Slavic and Germanic tribes worshiped bear. Russians are so used to call bear one of it's other names (medvedj = med (honey) + vedatj (to know about, to be a specialist) that it has completely substituted bear's old real Russian word "ber". And few centuries ago Russians had a ban to eat bear meat.
City of Berlin has bear on coat of arms, name itself comes from "bear's lair".
Or another example - cows and Hindus.

@EgyToto Thank u for ur opinions. I will try to address each topic: symbols, venus, and women. 1) Symbols: I understand that muslims r FORBIDDEN to use symbols in Islam, but that does not change the fact that Islam DOES use symbols in its rel. The PAGAN crescent moon IS a symbol and it sits atop every mosque in the world. Also, Islam uses crescent/star as symbols on its rel flags. So the real question is WHY is Islam using pagan symbols in its rel when its clearly forbidden?

so true! I have been wondering for years why people who don't even believe in Roman mythology would celebrate a holiday that had Venus/Aphrodite's son Eros/Cupid running/flying around with a bow and arrow. It's a major sin in all monotheistic religions including Christianity and most people don't even know it! Infact Judaism Christianity and Islam was sent to tackle down these beliefs, even hindus, buddhists, etc are far off. So who actually celebrate it?

@livebig88 It's the "no doubt" part that I have a issue with. I think 'doubt' is something that all humans share & although often preceived as a negative thing I find it to be positive since doubt leads to inquiry & inquiry leads to knowledge which leads to positive changes in the mind & in actions. Doubt is the bedrock of all philosophy & sciences, just because someone doubts & asks questions doesn't by definition makes him unbeliever or atheist. Absolutist thinking tend to paralyze the mind

I live in a Muslim community and that beating and killing you're talking about just doesn't take place. yeah , some domestic violence takes place in the poorest less educated parts of the city, but if you claim you don't have that in the west, you'd be lying. We Muslims marry for all the right reasons, and we have love in our marriages, although for the most of it it's a purer and more lasting form of love than what you have, And we don't have to commit adultery to be in love.

i believe that promiscuity should be avoided on valentine's day and I can believe it has pagan roots. But, look at wut it became. its no longer pagan, its just kids finding a set day where they can express a "liking" (if love isn't a wanted word here....) and its made more comfortable since all the other kids you kno are doing it too. and you don't have to engage in sex to express feelings for somebody.

muslim brothers please respect other religions and ideas. if this man doesn't like Valentine so he can simply don't do it. this is not good that he preaches against other cultures and believes! if we do this against your Islamic celebrations you become angry yes? so don't do to others what you don't wants others do to you. other religions has their own celebrations and they love it. please respect other religions. Thanks

At least Christianity moved on from Paganism. Islam is still buried in the past

very very insightful upload dear brother....
but only people who are conscious could benefit from this....others who r blind just put silly comments and blindly support PAGANs...
\they dont want to change because they like it...
be conscious and follow the best of guidance which is from the one and only creator of all.....
Assalamua'alaikum Warahmathullah to all........a brother from India.

@rashim87 Not only there is no sign of love in the quran , but 128 verses about killing and jihad. When you want to answer , please remember that we are talking about love. It is different than to like and to obey. Once again : I think tis video is very clear. He is clearly saying himself that there is no love in Islam.

@EgyToto 3) Women: There is NO equality in Islam (or any rel). First, women CAN b beaten in Islam. Quran 4:34 "First, admonish them, 2nd deny them sex, 3rd beat them." Scholars argue over how hard u can beat them, ie. bruises, etc. Hadith fr Bukhari vol 7 #715, Aisha said "I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing (muslim) women." From the mouth of the "mother of believers" says muslim women get beat more then infidels. Moh said "Beat them, but not with severity." CONT . . .

I enjoy the discourse on Islamic views of holidays, but am confused by the double standard. MECCACENTRIC, in the clip on Easter you defended the HAJJ claiming that it has evolved from a pagan practice to one in line with ALLAH which sets the precendent that the origin is not as important as the present meaning. In fairness, the same is true for V-Day which celebrates love (not promiscuity) and has no present ties to Roman paganism.
