Upon seeing the taxi driver, they both recognized eachother and I remember her regretting having called the cab, but it wasn't like she could just shoo him away now that he was here. Throughout the ride, my mother stayed cordial and only spoke to give him directions while he tried to strike up friendly conversation. I stayed silent because it was too awkward. When we got to grandma's I asked what that was about and found out I had an uncle that she hadn't seen since my great grandma's funeral, but I was not to consider him as such because he is no longer family. I've had pneumonia around like 8 times in my life and without giving my exact age, I'm not even an adult yet. Pneumonia can be very dangerous and probably deadly if not treated on a 2.5yo. When I get pneumonia we usually wait a week and then we go to the doctor and then get antiobiotics prescriped and it can take another whole week for me to be in a good enough state to go to school. DON'T mess with pneumonia and I think it can cause life-lasting sequels if not treated especially at a young age like that.

The spices for Indian & Pakistani food are fried whole then ground & used. This creates a delicious but very pungent aroma that lingers in the clothes & hair of those who live in that house. It could be that the lessons took place in a house where someone was cooking or had been cooking just before the child arrived. When I was a teacher in a secondary school with a higher than average Indian & Pakistani intake (about 30% of the students) it was great walking into the classroom because the Indian & Pakistani children smelled of their cuisine. I was permanently hungry when I worked there, 10 years of my mouth watering all the time. lol I adore their food. In fact, most British people do. Our national dish is inspired by it, chicken tikka masala. It's rich, almost creamy, with some heat but not overpoweringly hot. We're very lucky in the UK; because of our strong links with pre-Partition India, we have a strong connection to both India & Pakistan, & we've a history of large numbers coming to live here. Even Queen Victoria was partial to curries, & several were introduced into our daily menus in her time, & more joined them later on, or the newcomers influenced British recipes. Take coronation chicken, for example, created for the coronation of our current queen. It's basically a creamy chicken dish (using creme fraîche or mayo) with Indian spices, eaten as a salad, a sandwich filling or a filling for jacket potatoes. It's always eaten cold. Every British town has at least 1 Indian or Pakistani restaurant or take away, even small villages have them. Their food is to us what Mexican food is to the US. 🙂

Throughout the ride, my mother stayed cordial and only spoke to give him directions while he tried to strike up friendly conversation. I stayed silent because it was too awkward.
When we got to grandma's I asked what that was about and found out I had an uncle that she hadn't seen since my great grandma's funeral, but I was not to consider him as such because he is no longer family. I don't know what he did, but if it was so painful she didn't even mention him until we met by pure chance, then maybe I don't wanna know.

I've had pneumonia around like 8 times in my life and without giving my exact age, I'm not even an adult yet. Pneumonia can be very dangerous and probably deadly if not treated on a 2.5yo. When I get pneumonia we usually wait a week and then we go to the doctor and then get antiobiotics prescriped and it can take another whole week for me to be in a good enough state to go to school. DON'T mess with pneumonia and I think it can cause life-lasting sequels if not treated especially at a young age like that.
Sigmania Gibran it absolutely can. Untreated pneumonia could mess up a child’s lungs so badly that they could have asthma for life and an increased risk for other lung diseases.

Same, I've gotten some sort of upper respiratory infection almost every year and pneumonia every 2-3 years since I got pneumonia the first time at like 3-4.
Pneumonia is very dangerous, I had it when I was 2. I had a seizure after getting it.
For the hair one, my mom replied this when I asked if I could cut my hair in a certain way (pixie cut or like a boys hair cut) “it’s your hair, do what you want with it”

My mom was super jealous of my hair growing up and forbade me from doing anything with it, only at 20 years old did I finally feel secure and brave enough to cut it off. I legit felt like my hair was the only thing making me special and pretty because she always made such a big deal out of it. I hate parents who feel entitled to how a child expresses themselves and feel like they own their children's bodies

My parents are the opposite. We don’t eat all of something and instead of reducing the amount of it that we buy, we just don’t get it for the next like three years and the reason is always “you don’t eat it when we get it”

Don't listen to them!!! Eat healthy food in normal amounts and do a bit of exercise/walking every day. Love yourself the way you are and don't believe you need a certain weight to be happy.

Turns out these "lessons"are useless.
When I came out to my father as bi, he hugged me and told me he would support me no matter what.
When I came out to my mother, she just called me another lesbian.
When I asked my dad if he could help me out with my arms since I'd messed them up the night prior he helped me out, and talked to me about his own experiences with self harm and even gave me some excellent advice.
When my mom found out about my arms she freaked out and blew up in my face and made the issue worse.
I now live with my Grandparents, and I stay in regular contact with my father.
I do not stay in contact with my mother and she constantly questions why-

I have a little tip for everyone with abusive family members in your life:
Once you turn 18 imagine a scenario, if you wouldn’t trust the family member alone with you at a friends house (pretend they’re the friends family member, not yours.) then that’s not okay and you should distance yourself if you have a good reason of course (you’re uncomfortable, there has been incidents before.)

Kinda similar to the person’s situation in the thumbnail, my mom lost a lot of weight because the rest of her family were thin and after she lost weight, her family had all gained a lot of weight. They used to tell her she would loose weight and now when we see them, they’re all like “You’re so thin! You should eat more! (Calls me over) Dear, tell your mother she needs to eat more and get some meat on those bones!” My mom is a perfectly healthy weight, they’re just jealous 😑

The spices for Indian & Pakistani food are fried whole then ground & used. This creates a delicious but very pungent aroma that lingers in the clothes & hair of those who live in that house. It could be that the lessons took place in a house where someone was cooking or had been cooking just before the child arrived.
When I was a teacher in a secondary school with a higher than average Indian & Pakistani intake (about 30% of the students) it was great walking into the classroom because the Indian & Pakistani children smelled of their cuisine. I was permanently hungry when I worked there, 10 years of my mouth watering all the time. lol I adore their food. In fact, most British people do. Our national dish is inspired by it, chicken tikka masala. It's rich, almost creamy, with some heat but not overpoweringly hot. We're very lucky in the UK; because of our strong links with pre-Partition India, we have a strong connection to both India & Pakistan, & we've a history of large numbers coming to live here. Even Queen Victoria was partial to curries, & several were introduced into our daily menus in her time, & more joined them later on, or the newcomers influenced British recipes. Take coronation chicken, for example, created for the coronation of our current queen. It's basically a creamy chicken dish (using creme fraîche or mayo) with Indian spices, eaten as a salad, a sandwich filling or a filling for jacket potatoes. It's always eaten cold. Every British town has at least 1 Indian or Pakistani restaurant or take away, even small villages have them. Their food is to us what Mexican food is to the US. 🙂
