Looks good but needs more lively NPCs, people having conversations you can overhear, background noises etc
I have a feeling this game will be one of those near perfect games. Like it's almost a masterpiece but there are just a few problems
Edit: After doing a bit of research I have changed my mind, this game is going to be shit. The only good thing about it will be the open world. If you don't believe then do research on the game like I did.
They need to have students walking around as well. For a school full of kids it looks like nothing is happening.

I remember when I was 11 and we got to choose a book for us to read, I chose harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban. I had a fun 4 weeks of reading that.
Anyone who played the old Harry Potter games will understand this amazing feeling of entering Hogwarts, being able to walk around and explore, meet people, take classes... This is that all over and the nostalgia hits hard, even though it's all new!
For real, Hogwarts Legacy has such a real feel to it. One completely different from the past Harry Potter games
i played the harry potter 2 on the gamecube i was never a harry potter guy but it was still an amazing game and part of my childhood, and since im a videogame guy, this looks exiting

Very glad they are sticking to J.K. Rawlings books. Attention to detail is everything, especially in such a Lore packed story and background as she has made with her books. I feel this game will even immerse us more than even the Movies, as the visualizations look stunning, again very glad and mad respect to their attention to detail.

I hope they make the npc’s more immersive, i get when you first start the game theres little reason for them to want to interact with you, but as you progress it would be amazing to see the npc’s somewhat treat you with a “celebrity status” just like they did with harry potter. I mean if your saving the school and excelling it would seem a bit off if the npc’s had the same reaction as they did at the start of the game when you walk through the room then towards the end of the game

Yeah, looking at the playthrough it seems like the world exists, but your character exists sort of outside of the world, if that makes sense? Like, the npcs all have class and things going on, but the player doesn’t get to experience any of it, you walk up to NPCs and it’s just standard rpg dialogue trees.
I think you underestimate how miserable us british are
the fact we get random world events happening like that bit with peeves messing around with the student 28:44 just makes everything so much more immersive, I love it!!!

Imagine if you play red dead 2 and see how the world is immersive at a point that even today people still find tiny details that make the world so immersive.... Like NPC's routine, NPC facial expressions, dialogues affected by your karma, animals hunting each other, body on the floor decomposition, Even bullets in chamber of your gun, sunburn, light through skins/leaves/water/ cloths, blood drip, dirt on cloths/animals/ eyes following NPC nearby.
Do you think this AAA games will have that level of details and attention?
Let's be real NO. Even if I real want it.... But when taking a step back out of your dream fan vision you can see that the world looks lifeless.

The world design deserves a medal. Absolutely stunning. I really can’t wait to explore every nooks and crannies in this game.
For years I have treasured the Hogwarts universe; the houses, the castle, the characters, everything. It’s brought me comfort, joy, and a getaway from various hardships. I used to daydream a lot, about what it would be like to actually attend Hogwarts. And now, I finally can give my imagination a break and have a part in the Hogwarts experience. Thank you, truly.

I actually really like when they’re honest about the things that aren’t in the game. Harry Potter has a ton of lore and it would be impossible to include everything in one game and I like that they admit that they had to make tough calls to cut some things instead of trying to sugar coat everything and making the expectations higher than they should be.
Right! Like that’s something understandable that they had to cut some things hopefully they’ll add on to if they make dlcs etc.either way it’s not gonna take away from the experience of seeing everything

@@kevinthunder3375 A DLC for quidditch is what I hope for too. It would be good for sales and keep the player rate up, so it's not a really far fetched thought. And it would probably make people who see it as a deal breaker buy the game.

I love the use of the Daedalian keys. I have no doubt they are the same keys that protected the Sorcerer's Stone in Harry's time.

I noticed how dead the common room/ dorm areas were - students all sitting down and disassociating into space lol they nailed the environment though
people have to much expectations these days. The time where developers had the recourses and time for that are way past. People wanted more and quicker. This is the result

This looks FANTASTIC!! Hogwarts felt so alive seeing this presentation. I’m gonna lose myself just exploring it! I can only imagine all the secrets in the castle!Also at first, i wasn’t sure if combat would be fun or interesting but i have to admit it looks really fun.All in all , i can’t wait.
I like that just picking your house has an impact on the gameplay. There's different themes and music changes for each one.
I really hope there’s more NPC’s, not only to interact with but as a whole. Hogwarts had hundreds of students in the books and in the movies, I seriously hope that they can replicate that feeling with a great hall filled with hundreds of students!
The atmosphere of the school feels so empty!

Some things need to be sacrificed, just be happy they’re transparent with what they have and aren’t doing a cyberpunk where they tell you ther will be hundreds of npc’s just for it to be all a lie
Most likely (I hope) just a different build to show off the game. Lots of companies (even respected ones) will do this just to show off features of the game. I'm sure the release version will feel a lot more livelier :)
That being said, it still looks quite populated if you take into account that students would congregate in certain areas depending on time of day. It is a school after all.
@@jasongreen6826 it really wouldn't be that hard to make it look alot more lively. If they added students walking around in groups and interacting with things it would really change the atmosphere. You're the reason so many games are half baked now a days. "Be happy with what you got" it's not alot to ask for a better atmosphere from a castle that's supposed to have hundreds of school students

I can’t wait to play this! It looks absolutely astonishing. Graphics are incredible. I can’t wait to see how we get our houses and wands and whatnot. So excited!
I actually think it makes sense that there are few students around - though they could be more lively/loud - since the wizarding community is quite small! Keep in mind that there are only about 8 people per house per year - meaning there are only around 224 (give or take) students at hogwarts. So, the lack of large crowds in areas, except the great hall or the library, makes sense! I would however find it better if the students that ARE there would make more noise and that when your having a conversation with a student (like the 2nd NPC) there isnt complete silence in the background. Overall, I find this game AMAZING and tbh very little could deter me from buying it at this point.
I don't believe you. In book three the women needed the special trinket to get to more classes. And when in class there's at least 20 kids.
@@LightPink 20 students in a class makes sense (ca 8 people per house, meaning around 32 students per class for the first 5 years (excluding the optional courses starting in year 3, where there would be less students)). And if by 'the women' you mean hermione using the time turner, then that was because of the overlapping lessons (i.e 2 lessons at the same time) not because of the amount of students in the classes!

It's an rpg, so there will be A TON of dialogue. They can't motion capture and hand animate all of that, so they use systems that automatically create facial animations based on the dialogue. Witcher 3 and cyberpunk also did this. Also horizon zero dawn.
This won't be changed, I'm pretty sure that's the final version of these animations. I don't think is a deal breaker but is definitely not impressive.

When I was a child, before I went to bed and fell asleep, I often fantasized about entering the world of Harry Potter and taking magic classes with Harry as a student at Hogwarts. I hope that this game will fulfill my childhood dream.

When I was a kid, I actually believed I would get my letter to Hogwarts. Since that obviously didn’t happen, this will be the closest I’ll ever get. It’s going to be an INCREDIBLE experience!
I first got into Harry Potter right at the tail end of believing in Santa, and remember so vividly for probably two Christmases just preying to Santa to let Hogwarts be real and me get a letter. I think I'll actually stop watching this (I'm right where they're revealing Hufflepuff common room) as i just want it all to be fresh.
I checked the mailbox every day for my letter when I turned 11. This game will help ease the disappointment I’ve felt for the last 12 years since then haha
Shit I still wish I’d get my letter to hogwarts and I’m 31. I grew up with HP and watch all the movies every year during my 2 week Christmas vacation. Nothing is better that the holiday season and HP movies.

its amazing how in depth the character creation system is. Especially for their first title. Usually this type of depth is in sequels down the line. 👍👍👍👍👍
I started off by watching the second showcase first, then came to this one and I can say with absolute certainty... I am BEYOND hyped to play this game. I don't think I have been this excited for a new gaming IP! I love anything to do with magic and as I am a fan of the original content (though I haven't read the books only bc reading puts me to sleep sadly) and I am so excited to be casting magic and living in a world of magic as well! The second showcase was even more amazing than this one and man! CANNOT wait to play and in fact, since we get 72hrs early if you get the deluxe version, definitely going to be playing this "early". The sooner I can get my hands on this and exploring the castle and the world thoroughly the better!
Wow, their art direction is REALLY flexing. Awestriking. This is one of those games you can lose yourself in simply exploring and sightseeing. I can't wait to wander for hours just to appreciate all the little details in the beautifully crafted scenarios.

The darn Hufflepuff is utterly inspired by Hobbiton and I LOVE IT! I’d absolutely would prefer to roleplay in this game someday, good or not.
@@aquilliusranger2137 I'm not a Hufflepuff, but I love plants, Tolkien and Art Noveau and when I saw their common room I was going "ooooohh" "aaaaaaah" at basically everything hahaha. Looks absolutely marvelous. That said, there are few things I love more than stars and books, so I'm pretty happy with my own room as well hehe.
Maybe I can invite a friend for an indoors-encampment-pajama-party playing board games under the stars in the Ravenclaw tower in exchange for a morning "breakfeast" in the Hufflepuff comms? **sigh** One can dream...
I hope there is more story concept in the future. I would love to see more groups of students going from class to class and have their own little group of friends moving about the world independent of the player who can decide to join them on activities be it mischief or social development.
I'm sure they will be plenty of such side-questing storylines - but I doubt there will be a technology to procedully generate entire encounters that doesn't result in tedious, repetitive gameplay.
Majoras Mask did this best. Wish someone would take that and apply it to a new game like this.
@@mikul3122 I'd love that. A lot harder here though; part of the genius of Majora's Mask was the looping time mechanic that had you living through just a few days before having to restart to avoid the end. For this, you would have easily over 20 - 100x more work to do, because time isn't looping. Half assing it would be lame because characters would just be doing the exact same thing every single day. Something like Skyrim could be a solution, where characters could come and go from their home to work and / or a tavern. Add a few group mechanics and it could work.
@@lingu7733 No I know I was trying to say I wish a new game would implement that looping mechanic just in general. I feel like they were able to flesh out and connect everyone's storyline in such a cool way because of that 3-day limit.
With the time limit of 3 days, and the size limit of just the town and some surrounding "dungeon areas", they could really make something cool. And I think the fact that I could be doing something during those 3 days, and whether I know it or not, NPCs storylines are carrying on around me, that just blew my mind as a kid and was just immersive as hell.
I hope Nintendo does that again for some Zelda in the future.

The Harry Potter games on the PS1, were the very first video games I played as a child, to see the comparison between those games to Hogwarts Legacy, is almost bringing me to tears of happiness, I cannot wait to explore Hogwarts in its entirety!!
Not to mention the first three games on PS2, and Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince too !

Will there ever be a Harry Potter game where you can explore every corner of Hogwarts, attend classes, learn spells talk to other students and making friends, even just flying around with a broom. I already pre-ordered this game and my expectations are out of this world.

A details like the bed warmers hang on the wall above the bed is something that makes me smile every time I see them. Thank you for the Victorian era references. The antique hunters will appreciate this.

The detail in the castle and environment looks incredible. Really believe this is the game all HP fans have been waiting for. However there were a few negatives for me in this gameplay though.
- NPC were lifeless, all just sitting on the couch staring into the abyss. Would be nice if they were reading, practicing magic or interacting with other students. I also like when you can overhear their conversations which could be related to the current environment/storyline or could be a tip/secret they discovered about the castle. I think there needs to be more of them as well, corridors and castle felt a bit empty. Look at the Assassin’s Creed games from 10 years ago. The streets feel alive when you walk through them, the sound of conversations, singing, laughter. Bring the life to Hogwarts please.
- I think there needs to be some soft background music during the conversations with characters.
- The big numbers that pop up representing the damage taken when hit by a spell needs to be removed. Not necessary.
- Would love it if the trees and grass moved in the breeze.
- Can’t believe they put all the time into creating the stunning house point counters but didn’t include the points system in the game.
- No wizards chess is a bummer, really hope there is something more to do in the common rooms other than eat an apple.
Hope some of these will be fixed before release but will still be an amazing game if they are not.
The first three are relatively easy to fix in three months but no way they can include the other ones. The points system and minigames like wizards chess in a DLC maybe but not until launch

Harry Potter games on the PS2 were some of the games I have spent the most time in in my entire life. Seeing this trailer made me SO happy. It looks incredible! I really appreciate how transparent you guys have been with us. I'm really looking forward to this. Looks extremely polished, specially keeping in mind the release date!

if it makes you feel any better, I've been focused on the architecture since the beginning. Those honey colored wooden walls, the expansive ceilings with the light shining through, all the greenery, the moving walls...And what is most surprising of all is that humans have made all of this in a short period of years.
These are the last years of humans working in creative fields without AI. Enjoy it while it lasts. It's beautiful. 💖

The game looks really amazing so far! Everything I've ever wanted. Literally the only thing I noticed it was a bit jarring was when characters are talking, between their lines of dialogue their face reverts to the default expression and it looks a little bit odd in conversation, but that was honestly the only thing I noticed for the entire gameplay that looked off to me. So amazing. So beautiful. The team here should be proud. You can tell how much love has been put into the project.
That'll probably be fixed before launch, we have quite a bit of time yet to wait

@@ironspaghett Not really. The problem is their facial animations aren't made by motion capture, and that's why it looks so unnatural. It's all just keyframing. Changing it would mean doing the animations from scratch.

This is the most I've been excited about a game in a while.
I've been enjoying looking into the art movements of the period, and I love the nods to the Glasgow style, and to the arts and crafts movement (from Ann Macbeth, to William Morris). It's all over the castle, but the herbology professor is the embodiment of the aesthetic.
The voice acting and Npc interaction has certainly taken a backseat during development it seems but as long as it performs in what I believe is it’s top priority which is good exploration, I’m sure it will be good.
They once mentioned they had to do dialogue without meeting , cuz of covid, I wonder if that’s what it could’ve been, but dang never bothered to go back and re record I guess

As long as voice acting in the main story is good i can actually deal with a few NPC wierd interactions. Making an open world (specially one as ambitious as this) usually takes sacrifices in some aspects. Still looks amazing

My one concern which wasn't shown much, NPC AI; One of my favourite parts of RPG's and open world titles is the characters that surround the player.
Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Red Dead Redemption, Bully, Dragon Age and so much more. Bully especially is a great example of what I think is missing from this game; NPC interaction.
Bully was a PS2 title with a very small cast of characters but they all shared interactions between eachother, even more than the player at times; Kids picking on other kids, kids giving flowers to crushes, pulling pranks, skipping school, running away from teachers. It was full of life.
I don't see many NPC's interacting outside of the player, most of them seem to be just sat away from each other quietly, staring at nothing or walking around to nothing particularly. They act more like set dressing than characters.
I'd have loved to have seen NPC's with a little more personality in their animations, chatting between eachother in the dorm or walking together talking about things, students shoving past you running late to classes or lone students sad and alone as a group of boys laugh in the corner. Little things like this I feel would have gone miles in bringing the school to life. I'd have asked for this more than other features.

I'm 38 years old and I will admit I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies but was never super into the lore I jjst enjoy the movies but this game looks like it actually feels magical. I imagine a lot of people are going to get into this it looks extremely immersive.

I don't know about that. I think they're more concerned with the main story quest than giving us side stuff in the game to get lost for hours in. People really would have loved to attend classes, play gobstones, to play in quidditch matches, to date or make friends with NPCs, etc. I really hope they have a good 50+ secret tunnels, chambers, etc within Hogwarts castle for us to search for...It looks so empty. Beautiful but empty.
@@LuvThyMind29 well you also need to consider that this is just a gameplay mechanic showcase video for the most part. they want to show the fighting style as well as the overall graphics of the game. they aren't going to have every nitty detail yet, i imagine by the time the game is released the environment will be much more lively.

Definitely recommend watching this video in 4k on your home TV, was totally absorbed and you can take in so many small details that are happening up close or off in the distance as well. Can't stop watching it.

when the books were still being released and HP was at the height of popularity and media, me and my grandma would kindof race each other to read each book. she loved the HP books and it was just one of the few things she shared an interest with me in. she passed away in 2016 2 months before the cursed child book, and it was difficult for me to read it by myself. and I know she would have loved to watch me play this game, so ever since it was announced I've been looking forward to it. and while i was worried that it wouldnt be very good just like those old early HP games, this preview has kindof relieved me of that worry. I seriously cant wait for it to come out now!

I'm honestly impressed with the HUD and UI. I started to dislike the excessive HUD's in mobile games. But games like New World and Elden Ring showcased that a minimal UI makes the game feel more immersive. I also think putting the minimap on the bottom half of the screen is a great change to most standard HUD's. It doesn't distract me from the environment but is still there so that I don't get lost. Phenomenal design IMO.
I am 43 and got into Harry Potter in my 30's and I can't wait to play this game. It is a dream come true for me!
Don't get me wrong I'm hyped for this, but maybe adjust the student AI to not be so zombie like. Make them a bit more lively
