    Surveyor's Scope works best with Fetchlands or Karoo lands. Sac the fetch and then with the search on the stack sac Surveyor's Scope so it sees 1 less land.

    You just gave me an idea for an Ob Nixilis, the Fallen with those first 2 cards... Scorched Ruins will make me have less lands then others (most likely) then I can sac surveyor's scope for 3 basics into play UNTAPPED... 12 +1/+1 counters on him in a single turn without any other effects and that's pretty nasty. Something I thought of with Surveyor's Scope: If you run a lot of fetchlands you could crack one or even a couple at the same time to artificially lower your land count, then crack the scope with the fetches on the stack to get 3 lands almost every time.

    I would absolutely call each turn mana producing artefacts and creatures ramping, as you ca play eithef in addition to your one land per turn, and will perpetually accelerate your manabase. Yes, they are a lot more fragile than lands, but thas more of a side benefit of rampant growth, and cards with the same rules text, than its main point.

    I agree with treasure tokens/rituals, but excluding mana rocks like Sol Ring, etc. seems like an oddly narrow definition of ramp. I do like Prismatic Lens and Caged Sun in mono-colored decks. Has anyone played with Ghirapur Orrery? Would cards like Helm of Awakening, Urza's Incubator, The Immortal Sun, or the medallions with cost reduction effects count as ramp?

    • @prob094
      @prob094 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Although they are probably not 'technically' ramp, rocks and cost reducers do the same thing as ramp, but it's just less safe from boardwipes etc (same goes for dorks). Obviously land ramp is the best and safest, but rocks and reducers would still fit the same slots for me in a deck. Reducers can reduce multiple spells a turn as well which can be even better than having an extra land in some decks. But yeah I agree regarding rituals. Although if its a reliably repeatable ritual like Smothering Tithe, I would probably put that in a 'ramp slot' (If I could afford that card lol). I don't understand playing rocks in a deck with green though (except mana positive ones like sol ring) - land ramp is still the best I think.

    • @HaraldAndreVeen
      @HaraldAndreVeen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I count all of them as ramp myself. Also.. i think even treasures can be ramp, if the effect that creates them happens regulary (not relevant because of color, but smothering tithe, or the annoying goblin pirate..)
      medallions with cost reduction are in som ecases much better ramp than any get another basic land into play..

    • @edhdeckbuilding
      @edhdeckbuilding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i'm not excluding mana rocks as ramp necessarily. i just think it would be a completely separate list. the disclaimer was so that i didn't have 50 people in the comments saying "where's sol ring?"

  • @tjiani111
    @tjiani111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun fact, you can get lands out of your graveyard with a dun titan as well. They are permanents and have a mana value less than 3 (0).

  • @Wistbacka
    @Wistbacka 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Non-sacrifice mana rocks are definitely ramp as they will add an additional, permanent mana source that, like any other ramp, can get you ahead of the curve or catch up. E.g. arcane signet turn 2 will + land drop turn 3 yields same mana advantage as a rampant growth on turn 2. The difference is that you can lose that mana rock easier than a land but lands can also be destroyed.

    • @edhdeckbuilding
      @edhdeckbuilding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      so as i very clearly said in the video, mana rocks are a different category and would be a completely different list.

    • @Wistbacka
      @Wistbacka 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edhdeckbuilding I know, and that is what I am commenting on. I think most players would/will argue that mana rocks are ramp. Can you elaborate to why you dont think they belong to mana ramp?
      As you state below and in the video: effects/spells that gets you only a temporary mana boost or adds a land to your hand are not ramp. That is fixing or temporary boost.
      But as I stated in my initial comment, mana rocks provide same advantage as classic ramp spells. Unless you define ramp to specifically getting you lands, not permanent mana sources. But that definition would then also eliminate mana dorks.

    • @edhdeckbuilding
      @edhdeckbuilding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      for me it's more about having a term to describe putting lands into play faster than one per turn. if you use the term ramp to also mean, mana rocks, mana dorks, treasure tokens and everything else, than what term do you use to just mean putting lands into play faster?

    • @BassBaseAce
      @BassBaseAce 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have an aesi deck, but I think scaretiller is a little slow there. In simic you have access to like a half dozen or more 1-2 mana creatures that just have a tap ability to put lands into play so you don't spend 4-mana on a one off activation, since a lot of the time it will die if it goes into combat.

    I do enjoy a Burnished Hart from time to time, but it can definitely be the unfortunate 6 colorless ramp spell, because some tables have you gambling if you can't give it hexproof or indestructible to protect it long enough to see it sacrificed. Treason effects can also steal and have it sacrificed before you can sacrifice it. If I have a lot of mana to spend, I definitely like using spells like Undying Evil to sacrifice Burnished Hart twice in a turn. Definitely a fun card to have in a Rona (Disciple of Gix) deck.

      @dreddbolt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesperry459
      The main situations I see happening when it comes to removing a Burnished Hart and other similar permanent-based ramp is everyone else gets to spend their early turns continuing to ramp up and get gas when the Burnished Hart/Armillary Sphere player is lagging behind a bit.
      I really enjoy running and doing fun combos with Burnished Hart, but it can be very derailing if it gets removed, due to how slow the card is, especially for pod metas which run extra removal and wraths.

    I'd argue that in a format like standard, treasure is ramp. Getting to a certain card in your deck one turn sooner is significant.
    However, that's not as significant in commander since each of your cards and turns have less value in the game overall.

    • @BassBaseAce
      @BassBaseAce 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's good for standard, and heck even in edh (smothering tithe is a hell of a card) but just because something is good or useful doesn't change what category it's in. You get to use the treasures exactly once (unless your doing some kind of urza/improvise schenanigans) which is categorically different than having that same mana available to you for the rest of the game, barring LD.

    • @DaijDjan
      @DaijDjan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, it depends on where you get the treasures from. If you get them as one-offs, then it's a ritual effect. If you get them repetitively, then it's ramp.
      But then again, this list is about land-based ramp exclusively anyway ;)
