To be fair, adjectives get used as nouns constantly. Instead of saying "old people" we say "the elderly", and so on and so forth. Even in Spanish you'd say "los blancos" for "white people" even though it is literally "the whites". To that end gay could, by all technicality, be a noun.
although elderly and old people do mean the same thing they are different words and more importantly, within our current cultural lexicon, when we hear people calling gay people "the gays" they give a subtle, if not also subconscious, connotation of othering them into an excluded out-group. While yes elderly is placing older folks into a different category, it isn't as charged with the same degree of negative connotations that "the gays" does.
From what I know, it's because it refers to the people who inhabit the land For example: Scotland (land of the Scots), Poland (land of the Poles/Polish)
Most of those relate to the people that live there (Finns live in Finland, Angles live in England, etc.), but Iceland is the exception on that list, instead being quite literally a land of ice (in the winter).
Re the word "gay" and its meanings: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" (1963) "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (1944) "Deck the Halls" (1862) As well as "My jolly sailor bold", apparently from around 1850.
@@michaelweiske702 considering the fact it's origin is Greek, heterosexual is far more accurate since the Greek word it originates from is hetero - έτερο, not hetro.
The correct and accurate spelling is how it is spelled in the language (dialect) it is being used in. If you are going to use the lame excuse that it was borrowed from Greek so it should have the Greek spelling then the whole word would be "heterosexualus" since the word is coined from words from two different languages and "sexual" is derived from the Latin "sexualus". Every European language borrowed words from Greek and Latin and have their own spellings of those words whether they came directly from Greek or Latin or from another language that borrowed the word from Greek or Latin.
Nowadays bisexuality can be an umbrella term covering bisexuality, pansexuality, polysexuality, etc. While some bisexuals say that their sexuality is being attracted to two genders, others would say that it means two or more or just all. Plus you can add the fact you are attracted to traits and personalities into your definition of bisexuality. It is your identity. 😊
@@tubebrocoli It seems you mixed up asexual and agender. :P I'm not sure if intersex should be considered a biological sex on its own though. I would describe it as a mixed sex variation, since it's still a combination of male and female characteristics and shouldn't be confused with hermaphroditism, since intersex people generally can only reproduce like a male or like a female if they can reproduce at all. Because LGBTQIAPKZ+ is getting so long, there is now also GSRM meaning Gender, Sexual, Romantic Minorities.

Maybe, people are getting mad because this video is based on a very controvesional topic, which a lot of people do not even accept. Probably all of us can agree on the fact, that Hitler was a cunt, but a lot of people do not agree with accepting and praising these "sexualities".

I would like to add some info on some terms you didn't get to. Pansexual and omnisexual. At this time these terms are still evolving and do mean very similar things. Both have to do with encompassing people whose sexual attraction doesn't have to do with gender at all. Bisexual are attracted to either male or female. Though a bisexual person could be attracted to a transgender person, it is more a matter of them being attracted to the person and the gender difference being accepted. This is similar to how a straight or gay person can develop a relationship with a trans person who identifies as the gender they are attracted to. The difference in pan and omnisexual is that gender isn't a factor at all. A person they are attracted to could identify with the one assigned at birth, or not, they could identify with the other recognized gender, or not, they could identify with neither gender, or both. Gender isn't a defining factor in choosing a partner. Though those who identify as pansexual are not happy with being called omnisexual and vise-versa. There is no clear delineation between the two. They are still evolving terms and most likely one will become prominent and the other will fade, or they will begin to gravitate towards one specific definition of gender attraction. Another term that would be good to understand is trans accepting. Though not strictly a sexuality, it has to do with defining people who are attracted to a specific gender and see transgender people as their identified gender to a degree that they don't see the distinction between them and cisgender people (individuals who identify with the gender they are assigned at birth). These individuals may identify as gay, lesbian, or straight but see no difference in an attraction to a transgender person or a cisgender counterpart. They would be just as likely to be attracted to either. For someone like myself, it is just another trait. It is neither a deciding factor in dating, or attraction.

Relating to the trans in transgender, how do we break down the word “transcend” to explain its meaning? We’ve got ascend which means go up, descend which means go down. What about transcend?
Transcend means to overcome. The suffix scend comes from the latin scandere, meaning "to climb". Ascend was climbing up, descend was to climb down, but transcend is to climb over something (trans means "over" in latin).
"heterosexual has been seen by many as the norm/default sexuality" - Well, it is, isn't it? As over 90% of people are heterosexual, and it being the only form sexuality able to produce offspring, I would consider that the norm.
@@fishboymanshark Not directly, but his tone and the 'concerned eyebrows' speak for themselves, implicating that this view of homosexuality is, well, concerning. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely realize that this view has lead people in the past and today to discriminate against gay people, which is very unfortunate. I'm simply of the opinion that we shouldn't beat around the bush when it comes to homosexuality being an 'unintended' form of sexuality with hetero being the default, while, as a society, not use that as an argument against homosexuals. They should still be treated as equals, have the right to marry, adopt and raise children and generally not be viewed as lesser because of their sexuality. Like disabled people. They might not be able to walk or something like that (of course depends on the disability), so no function 'as intended' but are still human and should be discriminated.
@@Wolfsgeist That's how you choose to interpret his mannerisms- however to me it seemed to be a case of him showing he was repeating what someone else said- using the eyebrows as a way to show it's not his quote as his characters are rather simplistic. And why is that view concerning if you then go into detail to explain why people who are homosexual are completely equal to people who are heterosexual? If you are concerned it will make heterosexual people turn gay- that so far seems to be impossible. You constantly mention intentions but may I remind you there is no intentions behind how things are made- there is nothing controlling the strings that lead us to be created a certain way. Unless you're bringing this up from the viewpoint of a religious person- at which point I can only simply applaud your statements. You most likely couldn't care less but I feel like I should say this anyway- I'm not gay and not letting that affect my viewpoints. Just mentioning that to show I'm not biased- as if that'd matter either way.
@@fishboymanshark Of course I might interpret it wrong, that's always a possibility. What I find concerning is when people choose to not take a neutral or scientific point of view for political correctness reasons. Like saying gender or sex is just all a spectrum, when it very clear nature's "intent" (I'm putting intent in air quotes because nature is not an entity that plans anything) is that there are two genders, XX and XY, that are there to do sexual reproduction (as opposed to asexual reproduction, like in bacteria). Anything else, like XYY for example, is, from a purely technical and biological point of view, a genetic disorder. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Same with gay people. Not as intended by nature, because can't produce offspring. But that's really it, it's biological and technical. No reason to discriminate against. Cars aren't "intended by nature" as well and we use them no problem. And yes, I am German, no, not afraid of people being turned gay (because a. as you said impossible and b. even if, who cares, at least more gay men means less competition ^^) and no, not religious. But to religious people I say, "Well, God created that person gay, right? So it's his plan, isn't it?" ;)
I have a theory on how the word "sex" came to describe the difference in gender: The word "sex" can be associated with the number "six" in some ancient languages, (and even current.) The human body can be divided into six primary parts, i.e. two arms, two legs, one head, one torso. The torso, being the "sixth" part is the most differential between male and female. Therefore, when identifying a person as such, one would be identified by which torso, or "sixth body area," a person was. As mentioned, this is merely my theory on the subject.
I'm so happy to see that every youtuber I watch made a LGBTQ+/ Pride Month video. All of my closest friends are part of that community and I'm so happy to see that I'm subscribed to fellow allies!! HAPPY PRIDE MONTH❤💛💚💙💜
My GF is bi, so I’m definitely in favor of equal rights for LGBT people, but I feel like pride month has the opposite effect, because it draws more attention to the LGBT community, when should the goal really be to normalize it? Drawing attention to it doesn’t normalize it.
Asexual isn't about our desire for sex. It is about our sexual attraction. An asexual can desire lots of sex, but not have any attraction to others sexually.
While I like the video as a whole, I wish there wouldn't have been that commercial break in the middle. Save everything like that for the end or the beginning!
Isn't pansexual attraction to all gender/sexes while bi is two and tri is attraction to three? I've never heard of it being referred to the qualities of a person, demisexual sounds closer to that since you only experience attraction with someone you're emotionally attatched to, which is often confused with monogomy, but if you would say "yes" to a what if scenario of sex with a stranger you found hot, you're not demi. It has nothing to do with society, but everything with emotion.
I identify as bi but also when I explain my specific attractions in detail, I've had some nice people explain to me that I might actually be omnisexual or polysexual. Omni meaning all but it takes gender attraction and the reasoning in consideration. Poly meaning many (more than 2 but not all).
If bisexual means attraction to 2 genders, that means trisexual would be attraction to 3, quadsexual would be 4, quinsexual would be 5. So that means attraction to 6 genders would be... *Sexsexual*
Missed the opportunity to talk about "cisgender", but eh. TBH though, the only other place I personally know where "cis" is used is in chemistry. Good video, though.
I think that's where it comes from, geometric isomerism in organic chemistry. (Technically, cis and trans are also used in DNA transcription, but most people know it from high-school chemistry.)
@@user-vn7ce5ig1z I think it's just that scholars just knew that "cis" was the opposite of "trans"' not just in chemistry, but also in other cases like geography. And that both come from Latin, for "on this side of" and "on the other side of" respectively.

Zeppo wasn't the straight man in The Marx Brothers, he was meant to parody the junior or the grinning, vacuous young star. For example in Animal Crackers he simply decides to excise the body of the letter that Groucho dictates, in Horsefeathers he's sitting in the lecture hall with a co-ed on his lap. These aren't things done by a traditional straight-man. While Zeppo's character isn't as obvious to modern audiences he was recognised for what he was doing at the time. Off-camera he was said to be the funniest of the brothers; the only one who could crack up Groucho. He was also the most talented singer of the brothers and an excellent mimic. In the movie Animal Crackers Zeppo played the part of Capt. Spalding during the black-out scene because Groucho wasn't available the day the scene was filmed. He could actually imitate all the brothers flawlessly. Now, if you'd indicated Bud Abbot...
Regarding the origin of the word "sex": I read that it's from the same root as "sect" and a lot of words that contain "sect," indicating that something has been cut off from a larger set.
Just to say, You got it a but wrong in the case of gender and sex. Sex is what you were given at birth. it has to do with your chromosomes and all the stuff that comes with it. Gender is the feeling about those characteristics of the chromosomes you have and is more of a personal look at who you are. Sex is in the chromosomes while gender is in the brain. So you may feel like all the characteristics of your chromosomes and sex are amazing and you personally feel like they suit you, then you are cis. If your like me and even if you take away all outside opinions you still feel like the characteristics your chromosomes and sex don't fit you and are wrong on a level that is impossible to explain then you are trans. I know not many will see this but the few that do I hope this educates you at least a bit. I just wanted to clear it up because the wording in the video wasn't quite correct.
That's Nonsense , you can only know what it is to feel yourself , if you decide that you feel like a women or a Man when you are not one , certainly you have a mental disorder and if cosmetic surgery helps you feel better than good . but your still yourself and don't really know how other people experience what they are .
That moment a youtuber loses half of his audience and will become targeted by making a video that indirectly let it be obvious he isn't viciously animalistic towards a specific characteristic of society that somehow became a political statement to be in favor or against
According to Webster’s Dictionary and Wikipedia and iPhone’s autocorrect, at least, there’s a slight spelling error- “hetrosexual” is missing an “e” as it should be “heterosexual”
It's been said that calling atheism a religion is like calling "bald" a hair color. If you ask me what color my hair is and I say, "I'm bald," while I haven't technically given the name of a hair color, I have nevertheless answered your question. Atheist/religion and asexuality/sexuality are analogous.
Forgive me, but pansexuality is not a sexuality. If we agree that there are two genders, and pansexuals like either, then that would make them firmly bisexual. If they may not care about sex but like the person romantically, that makes them biromantic. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I never understood pansexuality as a real label.
Some would dispute that there are only 2 genders. Some people identify as "non-binary" or "genderless" or "third gender", "two-spirit" and various other things. So pansexual people be attracted to those people too. That said, I'm sure plenty of bisexual people could also be attracted to non-binary people if they met one and got along with them.
@@lizardguy4236 I get that. So if they are attracted to people regardless of gender identity they could also be attracted to people who are non-binary. The fact they are non-binary would be irrelevant to a pansexual, but it might be relevant to a bisexual person.
Minor correction: it's strait and narrow, not straight and narrow. So it's reduplicating the concept of thinness, because the strait refers to something thin. Also, you kept saying people attracted to sexualities when I think you meant genders

although most of this is correct, i feel as though the language you used was a little archaic and is not the widely accpeted definition within the lgbtq+ community. bisexual generally is accepted as two or more genders and someone's 'sexuality' is more related to their attraction a certainn gender, not sex. as a non binary pansexual person it's more than a little discomforting to hear someone say that people are only attracted to a certain sex.

You missed an E out of hetErosexual
Hetrosexual is the british spelling. Both are correct.

YAY, you mentioned Asexuality. Where are my fellow aces at? :D
I call myself bisexual but i guess im more like a pan sexual according to the meaning
Pansexual doesnt exist unless you fuck pans or something
Where exactly lies the difference? I mean, you are attracted to males and females, right?
@@itsalongday they claim to be attracted to genders, other than male and female, which dont actually exist, so then yeah they're just bisexual.

Maybe, people are getting mad because this video is based on a very controvesional topic, which a lot of people do not even accept. Probably all of us can agree on the fact, that Hitler was a cunt, but a lot of people do not agree with accepting and praising these "sexualities".
@@lukaslev1946 That's part of the problem. This is in no way a full blown discussion of the acceptance of LGBTQ, all it is is a video explaining names, and if people are getting mad at this video they may have bigger problems.

@al hassan mola That's basically what I said, I just didn't want to say it that way, because a lot of NPCs could be triggered by that.

He did not argue against it.
@@Wolfsgeist I may be wrong but I'm guessing you're German or from a Germanic country- your English is very advanced.

Gai sounds more gay then gay.
Pan is just the attraction to all genders with or without a preference.

It has nothing to do with society, but everything with emotion.
this is actually a rather clever way of explaining prefixes, especially for how thematic it is
I identify as bi but also when I explain my specific attractions in detail, I've had some nice people explain to me that I might actually be omnisexual or polysexual. Omni meaning all but it takes gender attraction and the reasoning in consideration. Poly meaning many (more than 2 but not all).

All two of them?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I never understood pansexuality as a real label.
Some would dispute that there are only 2 genders. Some people identify as "non-binary" or "genderless" or "third gender", "two-spirit" and various other things. So pansexual people be attracted to those people too.
