  • We set out to explore the Mole Tops on a two night mission. We took the Watson Creek track up and camped at a lovely spot on the bush line. The next day we carried on up to the ridge and did some exploring of the surrounding area. We camped the second night at a high tarn near pt 1770 on the topo. We took the Jameson Ridge track down back to the road and walked out back to the car. It was a spectacular trip that I would highly recommend to anyone that can make it up there. I hope you enjoy our video of the trip.

    Beautiful spots but, boy you had to work for it! Thank you for filming your adventures and sharing them with the world, your filming and editing are so beautifully done that it makes it a pleasure to watch, and your zest for life and humor between the two of you jumps off the screen. I really enjoy your videos and ( always ) look forward to the next one.

    Great video of a decent long weekend trip team. First night looks like the old Watson Hut site with that old rust corrugated steel lying around. The second looks like you were sleeping perched right on top of the Alpine Fault that runs through there! That's why it is so shaken up. The big valleys are less visited the further west you go in Nelson Lakes NP, away from TA and the Travers Sabine loop. Not many trampers go up the Durville and fewer into the Matakitaki. In summer you can walk from Mole Saddle south and drop down into George Lyon Hut. Excellent tarns along the way.

    • @AbelandVictoria
      @AbelandVictoria  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah could pretty easily make this little loop a one night trip but it was nice to take out time and enjoy the new area. Hopefully November we will do a big nelson lakes loop with my brother over travers saddle then up to Thompson pass and down durville. Either that or explore some different areas of kahurangi.

    • @AbelandVictoria
      @AbelandVictoria  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was skeptical towards the mole tops. I thought there is no way is can be as good as kahurangi or even nelson lakes. I was wrong it’s fantastic up there. I want to go down the range to my Ella at some point.
      Thanks for the feedback I appreciate that you recognise the added effort we put in to try and produce a high quality video.

    Its a bit freaky going somewhere new isn't it. I used to live on the edge of Mt Aspiring NP for many years and the area is like an old friend to me. I've only been up here in the Tasman region for 2 years and have been doing lots of exploring but still adjusting to my surroundings. Kahurangi has already found a special place, and then theres places like this in Nelson Lakes, I mean, crikey!! Aghhh so much to do. We are so lucky. Thanks for your videos and inspiration. 👍 PS. Went camping above Granity Pass hut on Sat night with my summer tent (brrr) and all I could think about was that Big Agnes tent of yours. Might have to invest. 🏕

    • @AbelandVictoria
      @AbelandVictoria  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah we feel very comfortable in kahurangi although still heaps to explore. We are planning a big trip into nelson lakes in November should be epic.
      Was there any snow up at the hut? Surprising how much warmth a tent can give. The big Agnes is awesome love it.
